April 2025 Camp NovMo: Baking RomCom

As someone who has seen you (from afar) chip away at the baking romcom for a long time now I am CHEERING YOU ON and I really want to see it finished! 28k is such a good start!!! KEEP GOING!!!!! U GOT THIS!!!!! Please finish it to share it with the world thank you

I lost all writing juice mid-November (as evidenced by my NovMo thread lol) and have been trying to get back into the groove! 28k actually surprised me!! Roadtrip romance is only 20k-ish (I assumed it would be more than the baking book because I've been chipping away at it longer BUT ALAS).
Probably won't finish a baking rom com draft this month BUT I WILL GET CLOSER!!! (AND IT'S ALWAYS POSSIBLE I HIT A GROOVE AND SOMEHOW FINISH???)

Aww yeah! I think I have a deep-seeded yearning to read a rom-com or romance one day and I love the premise of both of these. I am personally a sucker for the roadtrip romance though. Dual-pov, slight breaking of rules, and one bed WOAH (˶º⤙º˶)

I’m not sure where you are for planning (scratch that if you are a pantser) for the road trip story, but if I had any advice I would say don’t be afraid to take some time to flesh out stories and characters for it! Of course since you are 20k-ish, I'd like to hear more about the characters!

@goodolnoah -- thank you!! I'm definitely a pantser when I first draft (with some loose plotting and planning before I start and as I go). Baking rom com I definitely know what I'm doing and the roadtrip one I think I half know what I'm doing lol. The characters are fleshed out for the roadtrip book but the plot is pretty shaky (but my recent little brainwave might help that?? time will tell!) And I'm here to make dreams come true -- would you like a list of my favorite rom coms/romances??

Husband and I did a roadtrip this last week which conveniently gave me some ideas for baking rom com because all my best ideas come to me when I'm in a car. Whenever I publish something I will literally thank my car in my acknowledgments because so many ideas have come to me there. We're about to get a thunderstorm and I think I will try writing a little today to get warmed up for our Tuesday start!! <3

I feel the exact same way about the car situation. Only my best ideas come to me when I am on the road and I usually rush somewhere so I can pencil them down lol.

Do you plan on posting them on YWS as you go along? Also YES i would love a list of rom-coms and romances. I like things that have a hint of psychological elements if you've read anything like such!

These midnight rendezvous with Theo are starting to catch up to me.


The last time I worked on this, I convienently stopped in the middle of a scene. I can't tell you how many times I've read that scene/read the chapters before this scene to get back in the groove and write literally anything to finish the scene. And I was blocked every time. So today I set my timer for 25 minutes and blobbed the first sentence to pick the scene up and then blobbed along!! (finished that scene and started the next!)

I think I'll go for 25 minutes a day unless I don't have that big of a chunk of time for some reason, and probably some longer sessions over the weekend!

and if you weren't here for my NovMo thread for this project, the bracket count means [anything I put in brackets]. and I put things in brackets if I don't want to spend more than three seconds thinking about it so I can focus on forward momentum and getting something on the page rather than worrying about details or nice words. Literally some of my brackets today were [name] of someone that DOES have a name, I just couldn't remember it and didn't feel like going back and finding it lol.

Severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings can't stop me!! But LOLLLL tonight was so crazy.
Started my 25 minute sprint and stopped midway through because the big thunderstorm line was approaching my area and I wanted to watch the local coverage. There were at least two confirmed tornados like 30 minutes from me nbd, turned off the tv thinking the main threat for my area was over.
Eventually got back to my sprint and had to stop a second time because my phone started screaming about a second tornado warning in my area. Turned on the tv again to see rotation LITERALLY DIRECTLY OVER MY NEIGHBORHOOD. No tornado touched down, we didn't lose power, and it passed over really fast so it was also nbd but A LITTLE SPOOKY TO SEE STREETS YOU RECOGNIZE ON THE TV ABOUT A POSSIBLE TORNADO LOLLLLL. HAPPY SPRING!!!

(but now it's just raining and the threat truly is over for tonight and I finished my sprint so all is well!!)
