Reading is My Remedy

Reading is my remedy.

The mystic cure to all my woes.

The place where ink tells stories

that my mind craves to know.

Words are magic, sewn in parchment;

regaling of other lives.

They provide an escape for my brain

so I may find a place to hide.

Definitely, reading is a remedy.

Hi !
Here's my review regarding this poem.

It was a sweet and simple poem, I liked it. You were very straight with theme, I mean you didn't use complex style of writing and kept it sober, which actually is the beauty of this poem.

But the most impressive part is, "The mystic cure-all to my woes."
Indeed, whenever I feel dreadful or extremely happy or feel nothing at all, reading something is what brings me back to normal.
Good job. :)

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the poem (:

Hey rothwise!

First of all, great title! I looked at it and saw that it would probably fit to my liking! So, I read it out saw that it didn't just fit to my liking, I loved it!

Okay, so starting out with the first stanza...

Reading is my remedy.
A good start. You're starting the poem out with the title.

The mystic cure-all to my woes.
Um, this line was good, but maybe if you switched the words to and all around it might be better? I just now realized that because I read it wrong!

The place where ink tells stories
So true! Loving it!!

that my mind craves to know.
Ending the sentence strong! Love it!

Words are magic, sewn in parchment;
McDonalds-I'm lovin' it! XD

regaling of other lives.
This line is sooooo true! I love the context too!

They provide an escape for my brain

so I may find a place to hide.
I'm going to do these two lines together. I love how you finish the poem! With probably the most true statement about reading a book. XD

Overall, this was, and is an amazing poem! It captures truth about reading, and shows that you definetely have a passion for reading. Loved it! Keep writing!

Thanks so much for reviewing the poem! I've switched the second line to saying "the mystic cure to all my woes" rather than "the mystic cure-all to my woes" as someone suggested in one of the earlier reviews, it flows much better that way. Thanks for reviewing!

Hey rothwise, Shauzer here reviewing :)
I liked this poem! I like reading and can relate, as I'm sure a lot more poeple do. It is the young writers society after all :D I really liked the way you worded some things, like "Words are magic, sewn in parchment;" This was really nice, short and sweet.
"They provide an escape for my brain so I may find a place to hide" I really liked this too, I think a lot of readers would agree with your views, me included. The poem could have been longer, I know there isn't much you can write on the subject, but another verse and it would've been perfect.
I did have one problem, it wasn't a big thing but the way you said "The mystic cure-all" threw me a bit. I had to look back on it, and I think that if you said "The mystic cure to all my woes", it might have been an easier read. :) I really liked it overall!

I switched the second line of the poem to "the mystic cure to all my woes." It flows much better, just like you suggested - thank you for pointing it out to me!

Wow that is beautiful! The rythm is great for the first verse but the second verse I found a bit stop-starty (if that's a word). The rythm sort of started then paused and started again. Sorry, i'm a bit fussy about that. But your poem is so simple and beautiful. Can't wait to read more!

Thank you for saying so - I do see what you mean about the second verse, and I've been staring at it since trying to figure out rewording. Well, my works are always up for revising and if something comes to me I'll certainly fix it up to help it flow easier! Thanks!

Hi Rothwise,
I liked your piece, but it ended too quickly for me.
I mean, until "... regaling of other lives", it felt good, and then I read the next line and it was all over. I would've liked a lot more of it.

Keep writing!

Hmm, I definitely see what you mean that it ends very quickly (it being two stanzas and all, heh). I am still considering this piece to be unfinished, I just published it now because I liked what I had so far. I'll probably be adding more onto it when the time comes and I'm struck with more to say about it. I'm glad you liked it!

If you do, please do ping me about it. I would love to read it.
