I Will Stand

In Poetry and Short Stories

My head throbs

Because of the cruelties

That are evident in my country

-

My eyes burn

Because of the hardships

That people in my country face

-

My ears bleed

Because of the cries that

I hear in the distance

-

My legs shake

Because I feel weak

Due to the death all around me

-

My arms break

Because I try to save

All of the lives that matter

-

My heart shatters

Because they aren't punished

For the brutality and the murder

-

My resolve strengthens

Because I won't stop

Until justice is served

Or the doors of death welcome me

Wow Cody, this is pretty neat!
It does kind of sit with the reader and make them think a little, which is good!

I am wondering though if you are "married to the idea" of "My ____ is_____ Because..." I think it might sound more compelling and flow better if you played around with the words a little bit. But that is totally up to you! You are the author, so if you say that it is "My____ is _____ Because...." then that it shall be! There is power in the way authors present their work, their stanzas. The flow is important, but not as important as the words. You have done a good job with telling us how you feel and why, it just feels a little cut and dry for what I know of your work. But then again, if someone were to close read it, they might say that everything has a point, just as cut and dry can make it seem like "this is what is happening, it is normal now just as my tone is normal, yet because of the words I am using, you can tell that I, myself, am upset with this."

Poetry is so hard to critique, but really any way you want to go, it will still be good. Just think about how you want people to mainly perceive it.

I think this is a great start, keep at it Cody!
I am rooting for you!

Wow, wow! Such emotion! :) Congratulations on this poem! It expresses your spirit, your dedication and your love for your people so clearly! :) I liked it very much. I like the style of your writing, and the last stanza is a win! The third stanza is my favourite, though. Once again, well done!

Thank you so much! I am so glad you enjoyed it!

Hello! I love this poem! One of my biggest goals as a writer/poet is to create something that really speaks to someone... I don't want someone to just read my story or poem and then forget about it thirty minutes later... I want to create something that will leave them thinking about it all night long and it to really hit home with someone, even if it's just one person. I do believe that you have captured that quality in this poem.
It's short. It's not hard to comprehend. This is something that everyone can relate to. I don't agree when truealpha says that you can narrow down what country you are talking about. This poem is so relatable that it could be talking about anywhere in the world. There is no one place that is perfect. There is no where that is free from brutality and murder, even if it is killing with words rather than weapons. Everywhere you go in life, there will be injustice. How are we to stop it?
As I said before, I really enjoyed this piece. The meter and message are perfect, and I wouldn't change anything about it! Unless you want to get picky with ending punctuation, you could add some for emphasis - however, I think it works well without it. It's simple and dark and unique and and and and GOOD JOB AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!!!!
Yours trulyyyy, CardinalSouth :)

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! I'm so glad you like it! :)

Hello, just here to do a little review. I honestly like this poem here. It's not a subject that I personally see a lot. I like the fact that you specially tell us what country it is but you can somewhat infer what countries it isn't. The title is good and simple I kind of half expected it to be at the very end of the poem but that is no problem at all. One thing that I found quite odd was the the line 'For the brutality or the murder' the or made the wording a bit odd for me. It kind of tells me that the heart only shatters for one of those things not both. I would suggest you replace the or with an 'and' but I think that's just me. But this is still a solid poem pretty good. have a good day and keep writing

I agree with you!I'm going to change that now! Thank you!
