What happened a day ago?
I don't think I'll ever know.
I was doing everything
I usually do on Tuesdays;
"fumble with
the keys to the old door
and fling
my backpack off my aching
shoulder, and onto the floor,
trying
just to organize my
frazzled mumbling mind;
throw
my sweat and dirt and clothes
and confusion to the side -
and find
the things I wear at home
(torn dear skirt
and vibrant stare,
red t-shirt
and tired flair)
warmly rueful
and familiar."
Life has passed just for today
and finally I've finished all
the numbers, words, lines I needed
to write down and think about
(and now I'll do the same for fun)
and try to sleep but fail, end up
lis'ning to the same old song
I listened to a week ago
and the week before, tumbling,
crashing, uncertain of all -
Hours while by like dust
swept off torpid books, and then
They all return, our mouths are fed
and slowly we proceed to bed;
But I will never fall asleep
because of secrets I must keep
That will be lost if I dare leap
into the world where they will stay,
The one of dreams-fog-disarray
and loveliness to un-expect,
More realistic than our own,
Too vibrant to ignore, and then
I'll never want to leave. Alas,
the morning comes again, again,
I lose the stars that shone so brightly
in the mind of yesterday
and I begin anew.
And then...
Hey Fictional, SynSeta here for a review for the promised review. There isn't for much to say, on fact this is going to be a terribly short review due to the fact I can't find any nitpicks within this poem.

I actually had to read this over several times before I realized what this poem was about, and after doing that. I'm still not sure about what the metaphors and similes were about. If I had to surmise, I would say that this was about a relationship between two people but one had broken away.
I cannot truly say as I cannot fully understand this poem, but the ending was a daunting one but nonetheless a very memorable one.
This is a great poem, it is.
Thank you for being honest
You have an interesting interpretation of the poem - I might have to use it sometime. But it was really just a description of a typical weekday...written when I was delirious from lack of sleep...ha.
Good work.
I like the pace of the poem, and that it flows with the theme, sort of hurried and frazzled. Very true to live. My favorite lines are definitely the first two,
"What happened a day ago?
I don't think I'll ever know."
Mostly because I can relate, and so can every other person on the planet, especially when we lead busy lives. I feel that you really captured the thoughts and feelings that flow through everyone's minds every day, even down to the point where you said,
"But I will never fall asleep
because of secrets I must keep
That will be lost if I dare leap
into the world where they will stay,
The one of dreams-fog-disarray
and loveliness to un-expect,"
I also like that you combined words there at the end, which play on the idea that your secrets that you need to keep will be lost if you go to sleep.
Over all, I thought very good poetry. Classic in its style and feel, and never going to go away.
Thanks for the review
Whew, I feel out of breath and worn out just reading that! You jam-packed so much energy and action in that poem, it's amazing to me. The rushed structure, lack of punctuation, all of that worked really well to establish the tone here. Very impressed. And it was just really gorgeous, too. Your vocabulary was great, it flowed nicely (But rather wildly), and it all worked very well. I have no critiques, so I'll just compliment you on my favorite bits
But I will never fall asleep
because of secrets I must keep
That will be lost if I dare leap
into the world where they will stay,
The one of dreams-fog-disarray
and loveliness to un-expect,
Not sure what it is about it, but that is surely my favorite. Super awesome, rolls right off of the tongue, just lovely imagery.
They all return, our mouths are fed
and slowly we proceed to bed;
I like this bit too, lovely rhyme scheme and all that jazz.
Then there's the ending. It is a perfect conclusion. You begin to establish a sense of calm, but you can just feel the mood rolling closer to the edge of hill, preparing for another day of the rollercoaster which is life.
Thank you for your review! I wrote this on a whim in Spanish class - I'm surprised it even makes sense, but I'm really glad you liked it!
