UFO war

In Short Stories

This was a dream I had...

A nice big gun was shoved into my hands, and I was told to show no mercy. All around me, chaos raved the streets. I was standing on a metal plate of some sort, in front of me a girl in green took her aim. Then came the sound of something big hovering down before me. Fear bounced around my throat as a small whimper.

Before me a huge machine of evil came down to meet us. The girl began to furiously fire at the thing as she screamed in determination. Seeing a UFO up close was fantastic, and terrifyingly real. Like you would expect, it was round and was made in the shape of a fried egg. Its shell was pretty smooth, and we could tell it was looking right at us due to the big green circular eye that glowed in our face.

Bullets flung right off it leaving hardly a dint. A lump raised in my throat as fear flung itself down into my legs. I collapsed in what felt like slow motion, and scrambled back away from this thing. The green light began to glow brighter, and a green ball of power formed in its alien grip. Then the ball was flung at the girl, and she was lit in its brilliance. She collapsed, completely lifeless.

I jumped to my feet and began to run, every second step I swung around and gave a piece of action to the UFO, the bullets having no affect. The night’s cool air caused the hairs on the back of my neck to prick up. Towards the shelter I headed, towards safety. I ran up a set of exposed stairs to where a sergeant stood, determination printed on his aged face.

Behind me I saw as several other UFOs challenge us, weapons of their own killing us in minutes.  The buildings around us had various patches of fire eating away at them like wasps in a furious feast. Above me several UFOs sped over in groups, watching us like hawks.

The sergeant clasped a hand on my shoulder, startling me. “You son, will lead these troops into battle. Good luck.”

Next thing I know, I’m taking these men to where I thought would be the safest place to fight. I figured that since the alleyways were small, and the UFOs couldn’t fit in them, it would be a safe place to take them out. We huddled together, praying to God our families were ok, and that we’d make it.

Our first opponent appeared, it mocked us as it hovered up and down like magic. We took aim, fingers shaking, and fired. Bullets showered the machine like rain. We held our breath as we stopped, waiting for something to happen. Then that same green glow swelled up into a ball of death. I cursed under my breath and ordered for another round.

Then, finally, a miracle.  Sweat was dripping down our skin like grubs. The machine began to rumble and groan as if it were in pain. And then it dropped like a fly. Dirt and dust exploded through the air, and through it we saw the green light fade and die. Hope rose through us like a cool wave. We did something right, even though three of us had died during the battle.

As we cheered in triumph, two more approached us and hovered before the alleyway. Our hearts sunk as we took aim. The dust that the UFOs blew into our faces stung our eyes. Once again, we showered them with bullets and made a beautiful symphony of hail. More of our men were taken down. And then, thankfully, one tumbled to the ground.

I knew they had a weakness, but I couldn’t exactly tell what it was. Then, a final idea popped into my head.  The green ominous glow that oh so mocked us had to have something to do with its power. I looked through the eye piece at the eye of the ship. Taking a deep breath, I squeezed the trigger. With a bang, I had fired a bullet right into the green glow. And just like magic, the machine crashed down to meet the others.

To my dismay, I didn’t realise that I was the only one left alive.

My men were all dead, frustration wrinkled my brow. There were several ships flying overhead sending out a cascade of green fire. One stopped for a brief second, and then came down before me.

A final showdown.

I steadied my weapon, fingers resting on the trigger. The same green glow began to swell in the UFOs eye. Revenge ate at my soul, fury began to bubble up inside me. I let out a furious scream and fed several bullets to the UFO. My heart sank as I realised that no one got the UFOs weak spot. I collapsed to my knees, ready for my deadly fate.

The UFO spat out its own fire, and the green ball headed right for me. The next moment, it explodes onto my chest, sending me sprawling across the ground. The wind rushes out of me, and my world goes dark.

That was really interesting. I liked the flying saucers, but take out the description of them as a "fried egg." It takes away from the seriousness of it. I do like this, but is it a story or really a dream you had? Try adding some onomatopoeia, or words the represent sounds, like BOOM or KAPOW.
