Running for the Ring

Look at it this way, I had no idea of where this ring was from. Apparently is it was more than just valuable, it was deadly valuable. I never fully understood what my mum did for a living. Now I know it had something to do with magic, and it got her killed. Not only that, it turns out I’m an orphan even before she is dead. She wasn’t even my real mum, but I still call her by the name I know her by.

Now I’m in charge of the ring. Yeah, the ring that can stop time at the sacrifice of someone’s magic blood. I usually use my own blood, simply slitting my wrist and poring the blood into the hole that is revealed when you remove the stone. I find it pretty cool, since, no matter how much blood you pour into the hole, it never overflows.

At the moment, the ring is slightly full, and I’m running down the street. Running away from this big guy with long legs, and he’s gaining on me fast. He stands out from the crowd pretty well. One he’s wearing this long brown coat, two, he’s taller than anyone else in the street, and three, he’s running after a little girl.

And a little girl is what I feel, sixteen, and running for my life… again.

His footsteps are really loud now, he reaches out with a determined hand, and he’s about to grab the neck of my jacket.

It’s at this point that I twist the cog of the ring, and the gem twists in a full circle. Time slows to a stop, and everything goes slow motion, until everyone stops moving. Once again I feel the overwhelming feeling of being the only thing in the world in motion. I stop to catch my breath, and then turn and kick the guy in the balls.

“You deserved that buddy,” I say, and then run for my freaking life.

I turn the corner, dodging frozen people as I go, weaving in and out of them like a needle and string. Why does the middle of San Francisco have to be so busy?

Since I could only give the ring so much blood, (and it takes a lot to make time stop for longer) time begins to return to normal, and before I know it, the ring’s gem clicks back in place.

I curse, only about 150 metres ahead of the man pursuing me.

Just as I run past this big hummer, (which is black(villain’s cars are usually back(it must be some kind of stupid trend(or maybe they’re just trying to be all scary)))) the door opens and I run straight into it. With a sickly thud, I’m on the floor, trying not to let the sharp pain in my head keep me down. I stumble to my feet, moaning with dizziness. The passer byes stop to look at me with concern. It’s when they look into the car that they hurry off.

I lean on the black hummer, a hand grabs my sleeve and pulls me to the entrance. A hand clasps over my mouth as I try to scream in alarm. A final hand wraps around my arm and I get completely pulled into the dark vehicle of doom. I look up into a face, and smile with nervousness.

He grins. “Night sweetheart,” he says in a croaky voice. He lifts the hilt of the gun above his head, than strikes me in the temple.

A comforting darkness wraps me in its cold cacoon.

Tell me what you think. I rushed this whole lot, so it's probably really sloppy, like a lot of my stuff. Comment!!!

One of the things I love about YWS is the quote generator. For example, I'm reading a really serious work, and then I see "Moo. - cow" at the bottom of the page.
