TW: r@pe, s3xism, 0bj3ctification, and more because this stuff is real and it's happening and i wish i could reach out to every person born in a female body who has been hurt by this and tell them that i'm sorry and i hope that the world can be fixed.
~
silence worms into my bones,
and i worry i'm not enough to help the people i care about.
this fear is parasitic, but i'm the one who let it in
so what does that make me?
i am a testament to every word left unsaid,
every action that should not have been,
every mistake, mistake, mistake.
there is fear everywhere in me now.
fear as i walk through the halls of my school,
fear as i walk through the supermarket,
even fear as i walk into my own home.
and sometimes, it is accompanied by disgust.
the disgust appears when
i stand to listen to my teacher in the gym
and boys line up behind and beside me
like i'm a feast for their eyes.
it appears when
i stroll through a five below aisle
and boys leer at my figure from behind,
not even bothering to lower their voices
as they loudly comment on my body.
it appears when
i walk up the wet shoreline from playing exhaustedly in the sea
and men twice my age stop to sneak peaks.
it appears when
i see men and boys watching my fellow girls as well,
hunger lining every ridge of their body as their minds wander with their eyes.
"boys will be boys" is not acceptable.
"boys will be boys-" no.
no, you look me in the eye and tell me
that it's okay to be objectified.
you look me in the eye and tell me
that it's okay that teenage girls are afraid to walk from the bus to the school doors
and even more afraid to be inside them.
you look me in the eye and tell me
that this is every girl's dream
and not their nightmare.
you look me in the eye and tell me
that it's okay that we're letting our females live this way,
turned into nothing more than an object of lust for males.
if you can do this without looking away
or feeling guilt and shame eating away
at every good part of you,
then i wonder what the hell kind of terror you've inflicted on others
and said that it's okay.
take a whip to your fellow man
and flay his heart from his skin.
break his manhood and steal his choices and tell him
that he deserves it, he wants it.
go ahead and tell him those disgusting, wretched lies.
oh, you can't do it?
you're repulsed by what i'm asking you to do?
then why do you do this to women?
why do you do this to people with
female genitals and female hearts?
we are just as human as you are, perhaps even more,
judging by your lack of even basic shreds of decency
that have been ingrained into
the morality and function of our species.
this idea of equal treating and goodness
is so simple.
why do you find it so hard to accept and adopt it?
stop saying
boys will be boys.
you are the reason why they think
that their disgusting behavior is acceptable.

There are so many good parts to this poem, and I just love how raw, and how cutting the words are. Like the narrator is telling someone who is sexist, that this is wrong, boys will boys. I made a similar poem about rape too (you can check it out if you want too).
''there is fear everywhere in me now.
fear as i walk through the halls of my school,
fear as i walk through the supermarket,
even fear as i walk into my own home.''
This is definitely relatable everywhere we go in our day. Women are viewed as the lesser vessel, the fragile, weak one. We are constantly preyed on throughout history. My mom always tells me to keep close to her in the store, everywhere we go. She tells me stories of how a man might grab me. I sometimes things she's being a little bit dramatic, but that's all we see on the news today.

I have no words for this part of the poem. It is my favorite because it's true. EVRYTHING IN THIS POEM IS TRUE. I personally have experience something similar, but all of us have to remember that we are more than our body. We can't give men what they want. We have to keep our head up tall, knowing that we will be better than them mentally.
Now, I am well aware that not all men are the same. There are actually men that actually care about women and want to help them. For those men out there, thank you.
''stop saying

This made me want to say ''PERIOD''! out loud in class. The last line just cuts sharp like, I don't know how to describe it, but its beautiful.
Overall, I really loved your poem. The emotion going into this poem is just so cutting edge, and beautiful.
-xoxo, lovelydove loves you dude/dudette
Omg-sicles, thank you so much <333 I'm simultaneously glad and disappointed that you resonated with this poem because our world)society really shouldn't be like this. But thank you so much for your kind words <3333
The poem was very beautiful, tragic, and emotionally compelling. I love how you used imagery in a few lines for the reader to see the things the narrator is going through. The repetition was spectacular too! The repetition helped solidify the emotions and emphasize things. As a person under the trans umbrella, I kind of relate to a few things like the disgust from other people, fear of an environment, and anger of self and others. I completely agree with the last four lines. The term "boys will be boys" definitely should not be used any longer because of the sexism and misogyny behind the words. Overall, I absolutely loved the poem! Keep up the good work!
Your work is powerful and it forces readers to think about the unfairness in this world. The imagery is rich which makes this poem even more gut wrenching but you know in a way that's necessary. The layers of emotions in this, its poignant but splendid. It gives me a vibe that's bold but necessary. Keep going writer.
i’m with u my love… girls stick together, this was very beautifully put
