Lacking Dimension

----

Cheeks dimpled with a flash of auburn sunrise,

eyes stricken by colorless blues and blacks, hidden,

red-white gnashing of teeth and grating of bruised tongue:

plastered on two dimensions, juices drip-dripping from prying fingers

and gushing from the sharp curves of red-red lips, the nitric flecks.

now pretty pink fingernails trace flaring scars across neurons,

flashing highways of brilliance smitten by rifts of polish.

Neon bulbs shatter on contact, iridescent splinters

rip gaping ridges onto transparent mirror; the pendulum swings.

now sulfuric sodium like a grandfather clock, striking, striking,

like an alcoholic belt, the scarf of stars gags their pounding.

Dismembered colors slathered over ragged canvas,

bright reds arrogantly swathed over with a scab.

The distant clouds merging with the ocean's spit,

morphing initially into one, then one another

as the brush drills into human bone, painted hairs

grasping for brain marrow – substitution initiated.
