Embodiment

In Poetry

Anxiety
(noun)

A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease

Fear that grasps you at your very core,
twisting your intestines into knots around your stomach
and pulling a noose ever tighter around your chest,
heart racing in your throat, choking back words
you once knew how to speak.

Sweaty palms and shortness of breath,
stammering through sentences,
and tripping over concepts that you've known
for years and explained many times in the past
before you became the mess you are now.

typically about an imminent event

Thoughts utterly consumed about the same thing
every waking moment, and every sleeping one, too.
Mind spinning with possibilities of ways you can fail,
and hypothetical questions that you don't know how to answer
despite them never having been asked of you.

A new definition crowding into your mind
of what can be considered an immediate concern
whether months or weeks of worry are appropriate
responses to something that can change your life
or simply another shortcoming to fret about.

or something with an uncertain outcome.

Endless possibilities constantly dance just out of reach,
so tantalizing and yet equally terrifying,
a slow swaying of different shapes the future may take,
paths that I may accidentally set myself down
without meaning to or wanting the consequences.

Uncertainty is uncomfortable and certainty is absurd,
but neither matter much when it feels like
the weight of the world rests on my shoulders,
depending on me to be strong at all times,
and showcase bravery I don't actually have.

Hi, Shadow Viper!

First off, GREAT PIECE!! I really love the emotion here. Just the title in itself is such a powerful word. I love the bold, and the non-bold difference. I think you phrase EVERYTHING perfectly. I love the last stanza

Uncertainty is uncomfortable and certainty is absurd,
but neither matter much when it feels like
the weight of the world rests on my shoulders,
depending on me to be strong at all times,
and showcase bravery I don't actually have.

It's so relevant to my life, yet again. It's funny how the Universe does that. It's been telling my to read this poetry, and when I do I;'m in tears because I'm being able to apply it to my life. It's so incredible what great writers(like you) with great words(like these) can do

Endless possibilities constantly dance just out of reach,
so tantalizing and yet equally terrifying,
a slow swaying of different shapes the future may take,
paths that I may accidentally set myself down
without meaning to or wanting the consequences.

I could literally quote this all day!! The first line was great(I had to look up tantalizing...lol) and I love the power in this stanza. But this power goes throughout the entire poem. I could tell you I love this a gazillion time, that's how AMAZING it is!!!

You did an AMAZING job, and LOVE this piece and look forward to more writing from you.

Hello there ShadowVyper!

I am Kostia here to give you a review for your lovely poem.

I will start by saying I really liked it and instantly felt connected to your theme. Besides who doesn't feel stressed and anxious at times? In my case that's far too often and that is why I was able to connect to this poem right from the start.

To begin with my short review:

I really enjoyed the titles in bold letters. Each of them described the defenition of the word with a related text underneath. I think it was smart and very fitting here.

Your wording is great, simple but emotional and as far as I can see I don't have much to note on grammar and spelling although I am not a native speaker so there is a chance I am missing something.

The stanzas are just right not to big or too small and seperated correctly according to the themes in them. Nothing to note here I don't think you could have done it better structuraly. It is concise and easy to read and understand.

Generally I like free style writing (With that I mean no rhymes) in poetry and I think that in a well structured poem everything i allowed. There are some guidlines that have to be followed ofcourse But I don't mind free verse style since all my favorite poets mostly follow this type of writing.

The only thing that came to my attention that I would have phrased differently is the following:

"and tripping over concepts that you've known
for years and explained many times in the past
before you became the mess you are now."

I would simplify that like:

"and tripping over concepts that
you've known and explained
before you became the mess you are now."

Something like that it just sounded better to me but frankly either way it's fine. I didn't really mind the way you have it now but it was the only thing that I would possibly change.

To close up, I really liked the ending. It was powerful and realistic and it was the kind of ending that I love in a poem. One of those that kinda give you the chills.

"the weight of the world rests on my shoulders,
depending on me to be strong at all times,
and showcase bravery I don't actually have. "

Very truthfull and deep. Simply loved it.

Well done! Keep up the good work!

Kind regards

Kostia
