Let the sun rise,
To see those french fries,
Though they are of such a small size,
They will be in demise,
From mourn till sunrise.
I see not why they were here,
For lake of cheer?
Now they are as bad as can be,
As stale as a board,
As hard as a sword.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way. I thought the poem was actually kinda funny. I interpreted it in two different ways.
1. I thought it was almost humorous the way you wrote a poem about junk food. Genius!
2. I thought it was sad. Your poem reminded me of guilt that I sometimes feel. I know that after I've eaten fried or junky food, it doesn't taste good anymore. Mainly because I feel guilty that I've eaten it, and very self conscious about its affect on my waistline. The last stanza of the poem reminded me of that "Now they are as bad as can be, as stale as a board."
So now I'm curious. I don't usually like poetry, because I never feel like I'm understanding the underlying meaning. It's not often I get to ask the author of a poem this. However, what does this mean to you?
Hello Jonathan! PumpkinCat here with a review of "French Fries"! I have to say its a very peculiar poem and I'm sorry to say I can't really get the meaning of it. Are you talking about someone who is bullied and hated on or something else? Well anyways to the review, Your stanzas are great and the only thing I would have to bring up is your meaning again. That's all I could see wrong well anyways Jonathan Good poem! 5/10! -PumpkinCat
I must admit this confuses me a lot cx but I still kind of like it.Maybe you should try to give a little bit more detailing jut so the reader (like myself) won't be so confused.
Naturally poems leave mystery and suspense but here it just kind of leaves me wondering what exactly is happening here. But one thing I really like about this poem is how you're talking about such a simple thing like french fries and turning it into something much more with your words.
Overall I think the poem is good c:
Hi Jonathan!
I'm not really sure what this poem is supposed to be out. It's definitely cute, and I think you have a workable premise here. And while I like the idea of having a rhyme scheme, I think it hurts, rather than helps this poem.
Consider the first two lines. When you say "let the sun rise" I think of early morning! And generally, french fries are not a morning food. Perhaps the narrator is looking forward to meeting a friend or stopping at a fast food restaurant on the way? I would clarify to give it a little bit of context. And I'm not really sure what you mean by last your three lines of the first stanza at all. "Though they be of such a small size" - does this mean that your narrator won't be satisfied no matter how many french fries he eats? I'm confused. And your last two lines don't make any sense to me.
As far as your second stanza goes, I would try to incorporate a little more of a transition. How does your narrator go from being really excited about French fries to being upset because they got stale?
I think you have a good sense of poetic form, now just try to tell more of a story and you'll have a stronger poem as a whole.
Good luck!
Okay, I liked how you decided to pick a pretty mundane thing to speak about, and the first stanza was pretty good. But then with the second stanza you ended really abruptly, it's pretty vague in the first two lines, and I was a little confused overall. What does "lake of cheer" mean? I think the biggest confusion came from the lack of time-jump explanation. I was expecting still-fresh fries, and suddenly it's about a day later?
Hope this helps!
