Text version:
Sweet, sweet darling, I
Can’t begin to imagine how you must be feeling.
Another time, maybe, I could sit next to you and explain it all, but
Right here, right now, my words must explain for me.
Love, I leave this letter for you
Even when I’m gone, know this:
Time itself holds you close, for you are a fragment of forever.
There is no other way to say this

-you are a daughter of love

Oooh what an intriguing way to start!! I’m excited to see where this goes. I especially love the phrase “fragment of forever.” It’s simple yet oddly complex when you take time to digest it. Nicely done!!

what does it mean to be a daughter of love,
when love has only brought pain?

what does it mean to be a pretty flower,
when flowers are only a misleading feature?

what does it mean to be alive,
when living feels like an endless storm?

what does it mean to be an example of forever,
when forever is only a curse?

what does it mean to be a dreamer,
when dreams shatter in the walking world?

what does it mean to be a sense of hope,
when hope fades like the setting sun?

what does it mean to be a memory,
when memories are all i’ve ever wished for?

what does it mean to be in love,
when love always leaves me here, waiting?

- educate me on what it means

letters are all i have left
it's the only way i even know you
and through the stories i’m told
i wish i could believe them all

but you see i’m not you
i’m not scared, i’m cautious
i’m not emotional, i’m rational

and i’m not a lover
i’m not sweet, i’m bitter
i’m not imaginative, i’m conscious

they keeps telling me what you planned
what you wanted, how you were so loving,
how you were so wild and a heart thief

every piece of advice i receive is yours
thanks mom, but you’re not here
- so why do i still hear you?

painted by me

~

don’t say you understand
don’t say you love me
don’t say you care

‘cause one time you’re here
and the next you’re not

don’t make promises
that wither away

make promises that’ll stay

Hi Nadya!

This is such an interesting thread!

you are a daughter of love
> I like how much this one contrasts with the other poems you've written so far, and I think it's because it's from the mother's perspective.
> The pink flower is a really nice touch - it seems very elegant and positive in contrast to the more negative emotions that come up in other poems, so it makes me wonder what the mother is not seeing or leaving out of her words, if that makes sense.

educate me on what it means
> I liked these lines in particular:
what does it mean to be in love,
when love always leaves me here, waiting?

I like how this poem connects to all the themes in other poems too, like with the daughter being "forever" from the mother's letter.

like painted flowers
> Ooh, the metaphor in this one is really neat! Most people would prefer fresh, real flowers, but the thing here is living flowers die away fast - so the speaker's preference for a painted image of flowers which she can keep is such a good way to convey how she wants someone to be there for her in a more stable way.

Keep writing, you're doing awesome!

Hey Lim!
I'm so glad that you've commented! XD I'm happy you like the poems.

You've got it right - the first poem is from the mother's perspective.
As for the second one, that was one purpose, I'm glad you noticed it!
Yeahhh! I love the last one too. Until now, its probably my favourite!

Thank you so much for stopping by @Liminality !

never ask a poet
1) to explain their poems
2) to rewrite their poems
3) to color their poems
4) ……………………………………

- to title their poems

the roses in my garden were planted by my father
a long lost romeo, such as yourself
they grew with the tears and smiles of my mother
a not-so-innocent juliet herself, unlike myself

the window by my balcony has a crack
I was told, it was another unsuccessful romeo
who tried to steal my mother away, fortunately,
she only opened her window for the hopeless

the roses have grown beautifully, but thorns bite back
they all say that those are their crowns,
it makes me fearful, leaves me wondering
if that’s supposed to be a warning,

a warning, not to be so careless and fooled
by some fantasy where roses are sweet promises
and where thorns are crowns, so no
dear romeo, i don’t want your roses

my parents lost their life
due to their young love
both of them wishing they had
stayed silent

perhaps the only sound then,
would be from the silence
and not the bullets flying around
- they should’ve stayed silent

you look at me like i’m some kind of paradise
which i clearly know i’m not
Yet somehow, you seem to dazzle every thought I have
and i start to wonder
if maybe i’m wrong about love

you tell me, “it’s gonna be alright”
and it shouldn’t matter,
but it does
(‘cause that’s all i needed to hear, honestly)
and suddenly, everything i built
(i don’t know what gets over me)
to keep myself safe, starts to crumble

dark as the grapes hanging from the vines
longing to be picked, to be chosen, really
i’ve never known how to let someone reach for me
never known how to let someone hold me gently

but you say my name like it means something
like it’s more than just a Scar i carry
and for the first time in forever
i don’t want to run from that
i don’t want to run
i don’t want to shut the door
i just want to stay

i’m still scared, if i’m being honest
but not of you
just of how good it feels
to almost believe
this might be love

- is this what paradise feels like?

I would rather die of passion than of boredom.
