In Poetry

Feels like I'm just getting started...

~::~

Hope went out the window,
it was shadowed by Faith;

Confidence soon followed,
and Resolve hopped a train;

Clear thinking was still smarter,
because he booked a plane;

and that's when Violence came tapping
on my windowpane.

first off I'd like to say why I enjoyed this piece. like all good poetry, it's not something anecdotal and easy to understand, but has to be picked apart for its meaning. In addition, you did the personification well, and I liked the little trick you added about Clear Thinking being smarter (which makes perfect sense now that I think about it) because you quickly turned it around and stuck to the pattern when the reader thinks you are about to contrast something. finally, I liked the symbol, which I assume to be a dove, representing hope. very cool effect.
on the other hand, I think there were some things you could have done to make it even better. disclaimer: as with all poetry, the value of this work is subjective, so all comments on how you could change it are simply my opinion. the biggest thing is context. you can either add it at the begginning or the end, but as of now, I'm just reading about a person who's life is falling apart. I don't know who they are, or what's happend to them, or if I should be feeling sorry for them. if you were going for ambiguity here, then you succeeded, but i didn't really feel anything here, and it's what what I feel that makes me remember my favorite poems. I'm not asking for a lot, just a little context on who this person its, what their situation is, and what I should be feeling. in addition, "thinking" should be capitalized, as it is part of the concept being personified, and
"feel's like I'm just getting started" doesn't make any sense to a reader without any sort of context behind it. getting started doing what? make this a bit longer and I think it could be even better.
keep writing! your friend,
