Gah! What a cliffhanger! I have to read on! And I flippin love this Crow guy!!
I really loved this chapter, a lot! It was well planned. I think it was a great decision to have the lighthearted stuff with Violet at the beginning, a bit of humor with the chicken soup, and then spin it right back to the horror stuff. We all knew the change was coming, but still I think your timing couldn’t have been better. I was thinking ‘uh oh’ when Louis told Violet to wait for him with the rabid changing Eden while he took his time checking the house. I was expecting Eden to attack Violet or something, and I was REALLY happy to find out that you made a different twist. That worked really well.
Ever since you told us the dude’s name was Crow, I was hooked lol. I don’t know why, but it feels perfect, and I just know that he’s going to be one of my favorite characters. I can’t wait to read more about him!
I loved how you made Violet grow up a little bit. How she chose to run, knowing that Louis would probably die and that she would be alone. And it was a beautiful moment when she called him daddy for the first time. Really, really great job on that. I’m so glad that you waited until this moment for Violet to say that.
As far as Eden goes, I didn’t get that sense of ‘excruciating pain’ or the long, drawn out agony that I was expecting. You had set it up to be this huge thing, but in reality it was a ‘Eden passes out, and then wakes up just in time to turn into a wolf and save the day’. I mean, it’s fine, just not what I was expecting. I thought it was just a tiny bit weird that she would choose a time like this to pass out. I mean, was it because the pain was so bad? But if that was the case, wouldn’t any wolf in the change pass out while it was taking place? It was a little unclear. So none of this is really too important, and doesn’t necessarily need editing, it’s just my thoughts.
You did a great job describing Eden’s wolf. Keep describing your characters, sometimes it’s good to be reminded of their traits, even if you’ve always told us once.
Anyways, I’m onto the next part!
I really like this. I was confused at one point at the beginning with Zayn. Was all those events in order or did you go backwards and forwards in time. In fact what is the point to Zayn, why is he there? You could do with explaining what has happened a bit better. Who is They? You had me fixed till I found that you skipped chapters 9, 10 and 11 at what seemed the most anticipating part. All in all I think your style is amazing if a little dark. Keep it going
Wow, sorry for the lack of comments, but take it as a good thing because I was just so engrossed in the story. Everything just felt so darn smooth and I couldn’t stop reading.
I think the back and forth style with past and present worked really well. I mean the transitions were clean and it seemed like they both fit into the story really well. And I am so so so so happy that you’ve finally showed us some of Louis’s (and Ira’s) past!! I have to emphasize that I loved how you SHOWED it to us, instead of simply narrating this information. You took us right into the scene and made us feel it for ourselves, which is a very talented thing to do. Honestly, I think I enjoy your flashbacks more than the present-time.
The fact that Ira left Zayn injured instead of dead confuses me a bit. I mean, he couldn’t have run out of bullets, Ira has the brute strength to kill Zayn, there really no reason to let him live. It crossed my mind that maybe he was trying to lure Louis to him, using Zayn as bait, but that wouldn’t really work because Louis would’ve come to find him nonetheless.
I thought the spontaneous fight between Louis and Nero was well done also.
I’m glad you didn’t make anything in this chapter overly-dramatic. The fight with Nero, the parting with Eden, the rescue of Zayn, the epic background of Louis/Ira- nothing felt over-the-top. You could’ve gone on about the gore of Louis’s parents, but you didn’t- you gave us the detail of her decapitated head and honestly that’s all we need to get the whole emotion across. Louis rescued Zayn in a matter of fact way, he wasn’t weaving in and out of buildings in a super-spy way, he just got the job done. You could’ve made the fight with Nero drag on forever with a glorious win from Louis, but you didn’t, you kept it short, showed us who was boss, and moved on. And the parting with Eden was so sweet, there could’ve been a whole ‘don’t go!’ ‘I have to go’ ‘please stay!’ ‘no.’ kind of deal, but again it was very well done, and Louis’s words fit perfectly and made me go aww.
So yeah, overall, I think that every portion of this was very very well done and I don’t have any complaints. That makes this one of my favorite chapters!!
