How We Made The World Just A Little Bit Nicer - Boring Morning!?!, Episode 9

GriN woke up to Squirrel packing up flour, sugar, and other messy ingredients. Rylie and Neu still seemed to be sleeping, but GriN rubbed her eyes and stared into the room next door. She had never heard of a hotel with a kitchen. Was he cooking in there? She got up quietly and walked in to see him wearing a white apron with dark blue stripes. There was a curious metal cube with the front face missing. It had a fire on the bottom and a platform just above where there was 12 pastries cooking. She didn’t get to take a good look to see what they were as Squirrel placed a large piece of dirty glass in front of the empty face.

“Good mornin’!” GriN beamed. Squirrel turned.

“Hey. You didn’t eat yesterday.” He told her warningly with what may have been a concerned look. Even I find Squirrel unreadable. GriN’s eyes rose in surprise.

“Now that you’ve said that, I feel hungry sick…” GriN grabbed her funny little pod of a belly. She hoped Squirrel would laugh, but to no avail. He continued to put ingredients back in compact boxes. He handed one of the full boxes to her. He made it look weightless, but when it fell into GriN’s arms, it felt like it was made of solid lead. She struggled slightly as she hauled it over her shoulders.

“Could you put that in the large rucksack please?” He was able to make polite questions sound like demanding instructions as he removed his apron swiftly and folded it into the smaller backpack. He glanced over to the girl, who had struggled the box in the bag and was now grasping her tummy in pathetic misery. He allowed himself to show it some amusement. He found most of GriN’s communications hilarious, however he just couldn’t smile. After everything that had happened to him. “Don’t worry, you’ll be full within the next half hour.”

When GriN realised that he was still talking to her, she smiled directly into his eyes and he looked back into her’s and nodded. I can not imagine how brilliant it feels to receive a nod from that miserable man.

A yawn was heard. It was Neu, he had woken up happily and stretched like a huge bird cat. He smiled sneakily when he saw Rylie in deep sleep and looked at GriN excitedly. GriN smiled back, she knew what he was doing.

He readied to jump as he aimed for where he would land. Directly for the head? The butt? The tummy? He didn’t care. He pounced heavily onto the sleeping, skinny Skunig that laid vulnerably on the floor.

“GAUGH!” Rylie cried painfully. He grumbled tired as Neu and GriN began laughing hysterically.

“Ow! You’re getting big, Neu!” Rylie whined.

“Stop being such a sissy, Rylie.” Squirrel called from the other room. Rylie frowned unamused by the whole situation as he lifted himself. He wasn’t wearing much and was sickly thin. It wasn’t pleasant to look at. GriN paid no attention, Neu didn’t really care, but Squirrel looked disgusted at him while bringing through the rest of his things. “Would you put something on?!?! For God’s sake, I can’t look at you without gagging!”

Squirrel somewhat came to life around Rylie. It wasn’t appreciated by the latter however, but it was their normal type of interaction and neither ever took very much offence. To lighten the mood further, GriN seemed to find it all quite funny.

As was prefered, Rylie got dressed discreetly where he sat whilst everyone else carried on with what they were doing. GriN turned to Squirrel shyly.

“Where a’ m’clothes?” She asked, unsure of how to approach the blonde with an enquiry. He looked back over his shoulder at her briefly.

“They’re downstairs. When Rylie’s dressed he’ll take you to go and get them.” Squirrel told her calmly, distracted by the array of things he needed to fit tightly into separate bags.

“Cool!” GriN replied, turning to Rylie whilst swinging her arms. She smiled at him and their eyes met as he got up. They both grinned at one another fondly as Rylie went over and opened the door.

“This way, ma’lady!” He joked, opening the entrance to their hotel room. GriN stepped out onto the sloped, spiralled corridor and Rylie followed suite. Being quite a jumpy quick type, GriN had to run to keep up with him.

“I’m guessin’ ya slept well, eh?” GriN chuckled, sprinting after the tailed boy.

“I did! You did, too?” He responded. GriN shrugged.

“It were nice, but i’m awful hungry.” She told him looking at the floor as they ran. They finally reached the ground floor and Rylie smiled reassuringly.

“They’ll be done when we’re back! Guy isn’t that evil!” Rylie laughed. GriN smiled sweetly at the realisation that they both gave separate names to that blonde haired man.

“I call ‘im Squirrel!” GriN cried, as they got to a more packed area, close to the clothes washing room. They began to just walk.

“Guy?” Rylie asked curious. GriN nodded proudly at the name she had come up with. “He does like nuts!” And it made her even happier when he understood it!

“That’s what she said.” GriN added giggling. She hadn’t realised that it didn’t really make sense.

“Who?” Rylie asked smiling. GriN almost burst out into laughter at the knowledge that a 16 year old boy didn’t know what she meant.

“Eerrr….”She gave a funny chuckle and avoided his eyes.

“Aha!” Rylie exclaimed going toward the washed bag, which smelt fresh and damp. “Are they here?” GriN stumbled over to it and searched for a moment, rummaging through clothes and towels, until she was underneath the clothes with only her waist down visible.

“mmhmm!!” Her muffled voice cried. She pulled herself and a small pile of clothing from the bag and smiled. “Got ‘em!”

“Ohhhkay!” Rylie cried as he hopped back out with GriN chasing him. They again ran and hopped quickly back to the room and GriN quickly got changed. Soon enough, everything was as it should’ve been and Squirrel gave each of them 3 pasties to last them through the day, as he would not have the time or place to cook. They all ate one on the way to pick up the dragons from the shelter. They all had bags on their backs apart from Neu. Squirrel was holding three bags. GriN had her bag, which had her pyjamas, the stardust and her pasties in it, Rylie held one of the medium heavy bags that belonged to the journey itself and Squirrel held everything else.

There weren’t many animals in the shelter, so it was simple enough to find their dragons.

Burning Aura was sitting up proudly spitting fire as a little warm up, while Silver Cinder was chasing her tail playfully.

“Beighah! Silver!” GriN called, jogging over to the larger carbon dragon and giving her a pat once she’d stopped running around. It was the first time Rylie had seen these particular dragons, and he seemed especially amazed by them; their size, colours and features. Rylie stroked Silver Cinder softly.

“Ok, get on. We’re leaving.” Squirrel said, throwing his bags up and hopping up himself. He seemed rushed.

“Did ya pay?” GriN asked. Squirrel glared at her, making her jump desperately onto the dragon, followed suite by Rylie.

“To Eden?” Rylie asked sighing.

“Yep.” Squirrel replied. Rylie sighed once again and laid down on the dragon.

“Wha’s wrong?” GriN questioned.

“We’re gonna be flying all day.” The ginger haired Skunig told her.

“Blimey!” GriN exclaimed, surprised in a bad way as she leaned over Rylie.

In a rush to leave, they took off with Burning Aura or “Beighah” at their side. The only one who could attack them from the air was Sophie, and Beighah would prove good protection against her. From that fact, it was made clear that they’d either be extremely calm and happy, or bored and miserable. GriN looked around their ride at the things they could do.

“Wanna race around Silver’s spikes, Neu?” GriN asked unsure. Neu smiled at her, and they began racing around the large silver cone-like structures on the dragon’s back. Rylie looked over at them. They seemed to be having fun. The three of them laughed as GriN tripped up on a scale.

Rylie cheered as he sat up to watch, but as he did, he caught a good glance of the fiery one - Beighah - and noted how it stared curiously at them. They caught eyes and Rylie smiled at it.

“Greighe,” Rylie said. Neu was raised with the English human language, so he could understand Rylie when he spoke normally, however, this was a dragon unfamiliar to humans and although this particular dragon was of Earth domain, surely the Bark Dragon language would be familiar.

Beighah’s eyes rose as he stared amazed at Rylie.

“Greigherah…” he mumbled in response.

Greetings from The Swordsman!

I have to say that this is a rather interesting piece. Since I haven't read the previous parts I am going in blind, but I will do my best to give you a review

Your storyline seems to have a definite direction. It's obvious that you know exactly where you are going with it and that is a great thing. The characters each have their own unique quirk and they bring the story alive as you tell it.

Some things that sort of got me a little confused was with the dragons. I understand that there are different types and that they have their own languages. But just how big are these things? Being able to race around the spikes means they would have to be massive. On top of that, you state that they are flying. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to be running around the back of anything that was moving, much less in the air.

There are a few instances that I don't know who you are talking about.

"Even I find Squirrel unreadable."
"I can not imagine how brilliant it feels to receive a nod from that miserable man."

Who is I? Is the narrator projecting themselves into the story? This is probably something you addressed in a previous chapter but it sort of confused me coming in.

“GAUGH!” Rylie cried painfully. He grumbled tired as Neu and GriN began laughing hysterically.

“Ow! You’re getting big, Neu!” Rylie whined.

This is the same person speaking. You don't have to break it up.

Overall it was an interesting and enjoyable read. I have a few other questions but it is likely that they are just from a lack of reading the previous chapters, which I will have to do when I get time. Thank you for sharing this with us and I hope to see more from you.

Happy Writing!

Yolo peoples!!!!! LadyRanicorn here for another amazing review!!!!! So for this review, I think that I'm going to make it a tad bit longer than my usual reviews so that I'll earn more points for my team. So sorry in advance if I end up making this section clogged because of my excessive rambling of how good this story was, okay?? Sorry that I haven't been reading the other books and just picked the series back up and if my questions are all unnecessary and could all probably be answered if I just read all of the other chapters.

I'm going to start my review somewhere in the middle of the chapter. What I love about GriN's personality is how you added somewhat of a southern personality to them. Like how you made her say “Where a’ m’clothes?” instead of the proper Where are my clothes. It adds a lot to her personality and I love that about her. It makes her seem unique and different in her own way.

Another thing that I enjoyed about this story is how you kept on adding descriptions even though the average reader probably didn't need to hear them. Like how you added "The ginger haired Skunig told her." Add's some characteristics to her. What I enjoyed about all of the extra descriptions is how it lets me get caught up on the personalities of the characters.

This it it for now!! Until next time, LadyRanicron out!!!!!!

I LOVE YOU LADYRAINICORN!!!! :D It's very weird coz GriN is actually from Norfolk! XD I live there and "that how peepo spee' ligh' thar" XD :D

Dragons...cool. I'm doing some fantasy type stuff (sort of), and reading helps. You got quite the imagination there...inventing a world of your own there. Oooo. You did good.
