Hearts at War

In Short Stories

Dear Travis,

Remember the summers we shared in Brazil? The dancing, music, and food festivals brought us were enchanting and mesmerizing. I could see the love dripping from your eyes under the moonlight. When I had to move back to Mexíco, you said we could still be in love, that the war wouldn’t affect our everlasting love. I still believe in that warm, safe love even though I no longer receive your letters.

I hear stories here about your government, how crazy and sadistic they are. I hope you are safe. I hope you have found a will to survive. Am I dim for wishing that I am the only motivation you need to get through this trying time? I think of you with every passing second of the day. I think of you, when I arrive to work forty minutes early. I think of you, when I am restless at night. I think of you, when we are out in the streets playing fútbol. I pray that you are not ignoring me, that someone has stolen my letters from you, that you haven’t been able to get any letters here to Mexíco.

I dream of your touch, soft words, and careful stares. One day, when the war I over, I will be able to visit Brazil in a new light, finally accepted as a neighbor. I will come and find you. I pray you do not seek comfort and warmth in the night and leave me for someone who couldn’t hold a flame to the amount of love I have for you. I ache for you always.

I picked some flowers yesterday, and I closed my eyes trying to remember all the smells and colors of the exotic rainforest we visited. The towering trees, screeching sounds, vibrant and ginormous flowers, the multitude of bugs and animals my eyes had never witnessed before, it was all so overwhelming and beautiful. The sounds were intoxicating, and your interpretation of everything’s beauty has forever left a mark on my soul. I want to experience that again, but only with you.

Nothing here in Mexíco seems to compare to your country’s beauty. I just wish we didn’t have to be apart. Our countries have lost all wit and courage by fighting over bodies already perished. These wrongs will never make it right.

Te Amo,

María

this is great, and I'm really glad that you published it. I like how the overall mood of the story/letter is that of a longing wife who just wishes for her husband to be there with her. it just goes to show how many of the soldiers at war have something that makes what they do worth fighting for. Thanks again for spending the time to write it, and thanks again for publishing.

Hi Rascalover ,first of all i need to say that i enjoyed you article. Iam also appreciating you for keeping your thoughts on young writers society.
Coming to the content i don't know who is Travis and maria?( Of course there is no need to know them personally).I have some personal attachment with brazil so i have connected to it easily .Nothing or no place is better than Home land/ mother country. There are some lines which brings beauty to your article
"One day, when war Is over,I will b able to visit Brazil in a new light, finally accepted( the optimism show in this line is appreciable). I will come and find you for sure. I pray you do not seek comfort and warmth in the night and leave me for smone who could not hold a flame to the amount of love I have for you(this line is a highlight in the entire essay)".
War is a thing which will create lot of mess and confusion in people's life , it will separate families and reduces the loved ones in our life .But one thing is sure sometimes war is quite necessary for survival and it will help to safeguard our nation's respect and our freedom.

So please keep writing these kind of articles .Writing is the way which we express our thoughts.writing is the process which gives clarity for our thinking.

Writing is the process of connecting with one self and making others to connect with our perspective.
bye mate
