Some mournings

In Poetry

Some mornings I forget you're gone

my bleary eyes search the room for you

my ears listen out for your voice

but it never comes, and then I remember it never will.

Some mornings I nearly ask mum

I nearly ask her why you aren't at breakfast.

But then I remember

I remember I'll never see your face again.

I'll never again look at your charming smile .

I'll never again hear your raucous laughter echo through the halls.

Halls which are made empty by your utter lack of presence.

And yet some mornings I still forget

on those mornings life has color.

Until I remember.

Hey there Pernicus. It's just lizzy stopping by real quick, so without a further ado, let the reviewing begin.

1. My comments and speech will be short today, but to the best of my efforts I will review your poem. The first thought I had about your poem was the shortness and the overflowing emotion. I guess that the purpose of poems is to convey extreme emotions onto to the readers, but in this case, the depression started to outweigh the words. It has simplicity at this length, but it would be more enjoyable if it was a bit longer.

2. Though I do not often review poetry and it is not my favorite to review, I have gotten better at recognizing the stylistic choices within poems. I always have trouble applying grammar and spelling to poems because the so called "mistake" is often placed for emphasis. Despite this common rule I believe that there are several lines of the poem that are in need of repair.
Take for instance the first sentence which is spread over four lines.

Some mornings I forget you're gone

my bleary eyes search the room for you

my ears listen out for your voice

but it never comes, and then I remember it never will.

Insert Opinion
i. I don't like you are as "you're". Even if it adds to the realistic side it throws off the mood, ruining the carefully constructed previous sentences.
ii. It may not be necessary grammatically but it felt as if there should be a comma after gone, you and voice. This may or may not be correct I often struggle with grammar.

Also look at line 7, starting with "But". Here you split a sentence and started the next line with but. If you had not done this, it would have followed the flow of the previous sentence making an appealing pattern in the poem.
Besides that place, there are many other cases of unnecessary capitalization and awkward endings for emphasis. Maybe you could just use bold or italics instead. I also like to make the words I am trying to point out a different color

3. I am not really the best when it comes to assessing the emotion and judging how effecting it is, but here goes my best try. I noted above I don't read poetry often so there for I am not easily affected by the emotion of such poems. I will say the sadness would be overwhelming if I was just commenting instead of critiquing. When it comes to reviewing I have to push my emotions away like Spock and turn away from my human side. The extreme sadness and hint of change is conveyed in an easy to relate way which would effect a reader even more. That was certainly a good idea on your part.

4. Sorry that this was such a quick review, but this was also a very quick poem. Thanks for the enjoyable, emotion filled read.

Hey, Per. Here's a review for your work.

Simply wow. It's such a touching poetry. And the story told in it- needs no added comment.
I am guessing, you have written it from your own experience. I am sorry that you lost that special person.
And the title is really very good. I like the way you have used the little similarity between the pronunciation of the words- mourning and morning.

The words and lines that you have used, sound wonderful to me. I can get deep into the feeling. The lines are just simple but they convey so much meaning. That's really well done.
I am just reading the poem and i feel like I wanna read it more and more and more. Like, keep on reading it. It's definitely one of my most favorite poems in YWS. I really wanna thank you for posting this poem and letting me read this amazing piece.

Now, I didn't really find many things to nitpick here. But there are a few things that i would like to bring to your attention.

First, the lack of COMMA. You have used full stops at the end of the sentences. But there are some lines, and some moods, where you should have used commas. I am not gonna point out the places. But, I think, you can get where the commas are needed if you read the poem again.

my bleary eyes search the room for you

my ears listen out for your voice

but it never comes, and then I remember it never will.

You have talked about two things in the first two lines- "you" and "your voice". But, in the third line, you are only saying "it". Now, it's a bit confusing. Cus by "it", you can only mean one thing. Either "you" or "your voice". I think, you should try to re-write the third line to make this clear.

I'll never again look at your charming smile .

The person you are talking about is really very special and you really love his/her smile very much. I do the same. But I am damn sure that the smile of that person is not only "charming". There are some more things mixed with the charm. I think, you should try some more or another adjective that gives a deeper description of the smile.

I'll never again hear your raucous laughter echo through the halls.

This is not really much important. But, I think, that you should add an info here that in spite of the laughter being "raucous", you loved it. Which might not actually sound raucous to you..like, you really enjoyed it. But that's up to your choice either you will add it or not.
....echo through the halls.

You have used a full stop at the end of the line. But I think, you should use a comma here since you are talking about the same "halls" in the next line.
on those mornings life has color.

This line sounded a bit plain to me. I think, you should try to re-write the line. Especially the part- "life has color". The verb "has" just makes it too simple. You should use another verb with a deeper meaning.

That's all from me. Really, it was wonderful to get to read this wonderful poem. Hope my review will help you. And, I would love to read more of your work.

Till then, bye and take care. :D
