A Dance with Shadows

shadows stretch,

Crows gather, black shapes against a fading sky,

Their eyes glint with secrets, ancient and dark,

Whispers echo in the hollow of your thoughts.

Claws scrape on the edges of reason,

A cacophony of caws fills the silence,

Each note a tether, pulling tighter,

Binding you to the weight of their gaze.

Memories twist like gnarled branches,

Past mistakes flit like shadows at the periphery,

You cannot turn away, cannot escape,

The rhythm of their wings echoes your heartbeat.

In the recesses of your mind, they settle,

A roost of doubt, of despair, uninvited,

You are a spectator in the theater of your fears,

Trapped within the dark, where crows hold court.

Alright, time for a good old fashion review :D

Your atmosphere is just oozing in the dark and macabre vibes, almost gothic especially with the use of crows or related to them. The words feel vivid and can easily visualize it. The poem's format is unique compared to the typical poems, reading the lines follow the lines in a zig-zag and felt almost seamless. As far as criticism is concerned, I didn't have anything to say, aside from editing. Overall its a solid piece for a poem.

Hello Hello, I hope you dont mind me popping in with a quick review. I do have to warn you that this might be a little light on feedback. However, I hope my thoughts brighten your day and free this work from the green room. With that being said let's get into it, shall we?

Overall, I adore this poem for its vibes and formatting. I love creative works not just poetry play with formatting it can affect the feel of the piece in so many ways. Here I feel it gives a wistful almost listless feel as if the words are being carried away by the wind. Furthermore, the whole thing reminds me of Edgar Allen Poe.

Perhaps it was just the bird imagery but it screams of dark romanticism writing. The idea of being haunted and tortured by the past in the form of a crow in this case would fit right in. Every line feels very dark and rich with gothic influence I could see this in some possibly sapphic story that draws from gothic and dark
romanticism elements. ( Probably because I would buy that so quickly)

Crows are an interesting choice for sure when it comes to symbolism. There is of course the surface reading of death or soon-to-be death. However, crows can also be symbols of wisdom and transformation. I don't know if you meant this but I can see this poem as a person or relationship falling apart because they don't want to change and the guilt of what could have been haunts them. Again that's just my reading.

Now I would normally go into feedback but nothing jumped out to me as needing to be changed. So I think I will just wrap this up instead.

I loved this work it was dark and amazingly atmospheric. I hope you have a great day or night. However, beware of knocking on you're door you might have a guest saying Nevermore.

As always keep writing and remember to drink water!

Hello there, Esmeraya! I'm reviewing using the YWS S'more Method today!

Shalt we commence with the ghostly S’more?

Top Graham Cracker - This is a poem on the crows that lurk about, the crows that are flying around, the crows that don’t make a sound. Well, not until it’s too late, that is…

Slightly Burnt Marshmallow - I don’t have any suggestions to make, but if you want to edit this, then you can.

Chocolate Bar - Ah, I love the imagery of the crows flying up together, it shows how they represent more than what the narrator can imagine. It’s their world of darkness and we are just living in it. My favorite line was the last one, where you said that the “crows hold court”. It gives an idea of gothic royalty!

Closing Graham Cracker - A beautifully haunting poem, perfect for this spooky season or for any other season in general. I’ve enjoyed reading your poem, you’ve weaved such lovely, enchanting imagery in this! And now, I wish you…

A magnificent day/night! ^v^
