Just a message to people who judge themselves unfairly.

E - Everyone

In Zebras are people too

Does it always seem like there's this big, empty space?

That there's something missing, something valuable, but you have no idea what, or who, it is?

Do you always feel lonely?

Or so afraid of the world, or so afraid to meet new people, that you just hide in the shadows, not even trying to put the pieces of your broken soul back together?

Let me tell you this:

You are not alone.

You can look around, see nobody, then look back at me and tell me that I'm a damn liar, but I'll look right back and say "Turn around, and open your eyes."

I know so many people who stand by themselves all the time, thinking that they're not good enough to be with others.

But let me tell you one thing, nobody seems to be good enough for anyone these days. Or, well, at least it seems like that.

All everyone is doing is getting high, having 'sexual relationships', judging others by their appearance, and pushing away the people who love them the most.

But in this world, this beautiful, amazing world, that I am so honored to even be able to live on, there are people watching you with desperate eyes, wanting to go talk to you, but they're too scared to do that because they think they'll do something wrong. And they're afraid to try and comfort you, just to get pushed away.

You can tell yourself all day that you are worthless, but it doesn't make you that.

You can convince yourself that you can't do anything, or talk to anybody, because you're just a nobody who no one cares for.

But the truth? It's right behind all of your judgment. It's hiding behind all of your self consciousness, waiting for you to get over with blaming yourself.

You are so much better than you think you are.

I just want you guys to know that I'm always here. So, if you ever need somebody to talk to, just message me.

Thanks for reading. :) Have a nice day.

I admit that the main reason I created a YWS account is so that I could reply to your posts. You truly are a wonderful author. Not only do you paint pictures with your written word, you use your emotions as the paintbrush. Emotions are a powerful thing, which is proven by the fact that I teared up not only the first time I read this, but the second and third times as well. And you know me- I find it hard to cry at funerals. It struck a chord in me, and I can still feel the vibrations as I'm typing this. Thank you for reaching out to the people who are too afraid to do it themselves. It's easier to accept a helping hand if they've reached out first. Sometimes, people are afraid to ask for help and have heir fears confirmed if nobody takes their hand.
If you need me to, I'll hold your hand just like you've held mine. I love you, little sister!

Ah, is always good to see some positive thinking in this so very cynical world we live in now. I guess we all judge ourselves a bit unfairly and as do I. But thank you for writing this piece, is honestly very well-written.

Great job!

I read this piece because I am a person that judges myself too unfairly.
As I began reading, I was answering your questions in my head.
Yes there was an empty space. Yes there was something missing. No I don't always feel lonely, but sometimes. No I'm not hiding in the shadows.
And yes, I know I am not alone.

'nobody is good enough for anyone these days.'

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this, but it paints a pretty bleak picture. If the idea was you were trying to leave the reader with some hope, this sentence kind of eradicates this.

'You are so much better than you think you are.' I am not sure this would provide truth for all 'harsh judgers' or people in general. But I see the point you are trying to make.

'I just want you guys to know that I'm always here. So, if you ever need somebody to talk to, just message me, or whatever.' I think the end justifies the means here. ;)

This is an opportunity for people to gain a talking partner, form a friendship. And that is a beautiful sentiment. Did it need the rest of the piece to do this????
No, you could have just typed the ending and it would have still been beautiful. :)

Did it need the rest of the piece to do this? Yes.
Because this wasn't a piece that I posted so that people could tell me what was wrong with it, it was created because I wanted to reach out to others, and make them feel better.
I'm not going to change it because of how you feel.
It's written that was for a reason, so, deal with it.
Have a nice day.

.......thanks. I feel loved.

Lots of people will be blessed by this open-armed acceptance. I think I'm fat. I think I'm ugly. I think I'm never going to be thin or pretty. I think that others think I'm fat. I think that others think that I'm ugly. I think that others think that I'm never going to be thin or pretty. I am my own worst critic.

This was an encouragement, to say the least, It moved me and I feel more prepared to face the day, more confident of myself and my appearance. I feel like my friends accept me for who I am and not for what I can do or what I look like.

I feel worthless everyday, all the time. But I know, deep in my heart, that I'm not. So thank-you for this piece of encouragement. It made my day, and will continue to keep my spirits up for many days to come!

Thank-you for helping me see my self-worth, and bringing to light all of my good qualities. Thank-you for showing me that others like me too. Thanks for helping me to not be so hard on myself.

Thanks.

Wow.

Thank you for writing this piece. I know you will be able to speak to many, many people with this- myself included. You've got a talent, and with this work, you're using it to do what I believe can change someone's life.

I personally was able to relate to a lot of this, and I know several others who could say the same.

Thank you again,
this is perfect,
and that is all.

This piece was magnificent. I want to thank you for it - you're going to change a lot of lives with this piece, just by letting people know that it's okay and that there's always at least just one person who's there to talk and understand and help. Thanks for restoring my faith in humanity - it was much needed.

I can definitely relate to the piece myself, for I've hit a lot of low points in my life this past year, and when you touched on them in your piece I actually found myself getting quite emotional...but in a good way, it let me know that there is always someone there who understands what's going on. You are wonderful. I can't even say that enough, seriously, you are wonderful for writing this.

I hope you have an amazing rest of your day, thank you.

I wouldn't judge anyone from the color of there skin. Some people have to get use to you being a certain way. shinethroughthedark just always be yourself. Don't let anyone put down because they don't feel good enough.

Thanks for this piece a lot. It really helped.I'm going through this situation myself, and I've already cut my hands about 17 times. I wanna die. I'm sure you would feel the same too if you had your boyfriend of 1 year with whom you've kissed cheating you, that too cheating 6 girls at once. Now his elder brother is flirting with me. Everyone says I'm lucky to have two REALLY good looking boys after me, and im really pretty, but i feel ugly and used. :(

Ciblio replied · Dec 19, 2013

Sometimes, you just have to push away whatever's bringing you down. I can't say that I know how you feel, because something like that has never happened to be before, but I can tell you that all of this? It's just showing you that not all guys are who you think they are.
Before you put your trust into someone, you have to figure out his/their past, and see what they're going to do in the future.
It's hard for you to get through this, I understand, but the problem isn't going to go away until YOU do something about it. You're the only one who can resolve this.
As for the cutting? Honey, it does nothing but make unwanted scars.
Keep your head held high, because as long as you do, your life will be perfect.
You want to die? Why not live? Your problems can't get the best of you. They're just problems. You have the ability to make them go away. Living is everything. You were created for a reason. And that reason was not so you could just end yourself.
Don't let any of this get to you. You have the power to over-come all of this. You just have to believe in yourself.
If you have anything else you want to talk about, please, don't hesitate to message me. I be more than happy to talk to you about it.

Hi.

So, I like the expression behind the piece a lot. I come from the same place of being alone and feeling lonely, more often then I like to talk about. So, something like this means quite a lot to me.

I like the way you've talked about the emotion instead of constructing a visual image. Because something like that can only be felt, and not seen or visualized.

Now, some technicalities, about the lines that didn't work for me:
"She committed suicide because of what she did to herself. "... This one seems a little confused. What did she do to herself? She committed suicide, that is doing enough.

"I was depressed because I knew a girl who hated herself because nobody cared for her, and she thought she was ugly. She committed suicide because of what she did to herself. What she didn't know, that she was one of the most prettiest girls that I knew, and that there was a guy always right behind her, trying to cheer her up, because he was head over heels in love with her."... I get what you're trying to deliver through these lines, but it comes off as extremely confused, dear.

"pushing away the people who love them the most"... pushing away the people you LOVE the most. We don't need a "them" there, grammatically,

Now the line that worked for me the most:
"Or so afraid of the world, or so afraid to meet new people, that you just hide in the shadows, not even trying to put the pieces of your broken soul back together?"

I'd suggest just give the piece a couple of more readings, and you might end up making tad-bits of changed yourself.

Keep writing!

-Erin
