"Ryan, how far from home are we?" Pan asked.

"Hmm, we got outside of the city about an hour ago before we found Jake, so maybe just a few kilometers. Why?" I answered.

"Nothing, its just I used to get lost in forest all the time, and it helps to know how far away from home you are." She said nervously.

"Really? That's hilarious!" I laughed.

"It's not that funny..." Pan pouted, pulling her collar up to hide her mouth.

"I'm just teasing. We'll fly out of here when we're heading back, don't worry." I stopped and motioned for her to stay low. "Something's coming this way. Don't stand in any light, and stay quiet..." Pan nodded and got down on her belly next me. The trees above us rustled violently and their leaves fell over us.

"Ryan," She whispered, nudging me. "Over there. I only see one but theres bound to be more. I doubt that was wind in the trees." She pointed to a lone Murkrow tending to one of its wing.

"Mmm, that's nice." I said with a growl. " I just wanna zap them all..."

"What!" Pan exclaimed. The Murkrow snapped his head in our direction and cawed, summoning thousands from the trees all around it. "Oh, no, what now?"

"Stay down and don't get up no matter what you see!" I yelled, leaping up and sinking my nails into a tree. I held out my free hand, uncontrollably yelling at the top of my lungs. The air around me dried up and was sending sparks in all directions. A ray of electricity shot from my palm and took the form of a yellow, red eyed dragon. The dragon opened its gaping mouth, swallowed all of the now fleeing birds and exploded into sparks.

"Crap, that was..." Pan looked on with wide eyes and the Murkrow fell to the ground in piles, twitching, twisting, and groaning against their will.

I dropped down from the tree and snarled in their direction. "Stay down if you don't want to die!" I screamed, a hit of distortion in my voice. I tried sprinting towards them but Pan caught me, hooking her arms around mine and pulling me back.

"Ryan get a hold of yourself!" She cried. "You're scaring me!" She lost her grip on me and fell on her back looking up at me, fearfully. I spun around and stared back at her. "Ryan?" She whimpered. Pan screamed as she watched me fall to ground.

----

"Duuude, did you see that?" Karen's eyes widened.

"Yeah, electricity, so what?" Jake didn't bother to open his eyes. He could feel it on his feathers.

"Daww, you missed it!" Karen pounded her wings on Jakes head as she watched the electricity dissipate. "It was this big flash, but it was so far away."

"Can you not hit me on the head like that?" Jake growled. "What do you mean it was far away? I could feel it from here. That's right, you never did have a sense of distance. Remember when you tried to help me find my way home, but instead you accidently led me to your nest?"

"Who said that was an accident?" Karen smirked.

"Liar."

"Hey, that's not true. I wasn't lying about that blast either. You own these woods, Jake, you should be concerned about what goes on when you're not around." Karen flipped onto her back and sighed. "Hey, you never told me who was following you anyway."

"Ryan Sparker..."

"Dude, seriously!" Karen exclaimed. "What did you do to piss him off?"

"Well, I didn't do anything to him, per se, but I did kill my sister right in front of his brother, which she was in a relationship with, so..." Jake trailed off.

"Why would he care?"

"Beats me. Maybe his brother put him up to it."

"So why'd you do it, huh?" Karen asked, patting his head like a child. "Tell me, tell me, tell me!"

"You know Pan, right?"

"Yeah, your little girlfriend."

"Not anymore.,." Jake said softly. "She broke my heart, and since Ryan's her brother, I'm going to make his family pay for it."

"Oh you poor thing." Karen said sarcastically. "Grow up, would ya? Why would you do something like that? It's a pure waste of time and energy. I thought you would figure that out by now!"

"I can easily change my mind after I'm done defending myself, you  know." Jake said.

"You're kidding, right?" Karen pounded his head again. "Dude, be serious. You got dumped, get over it!"

"Too late now..."

"Yeah, its always too late for you. Just like it's too late for you to cry about your sister, when you know you regret it."

"Flannery was just a tool, Karen. I had no need for her anymore.." Jake opened his eyes. "What will it take for you to understand that some people exist as pawns and that's all they'll ever be?"

"You can't fool me, Jake. I know you more than anyone." She answered. "You even said that calling you Jakey brought back bad memories. Flannery was the only person who called you that, so don't play me like a fool."

Jake rose up and almost sent Karen flying off his head. She stared at him with anger, flapping her wings.

"If you have such a problem, then get the hell away from me!" Jake yelled.

"Hmph, such a idiot, sometimes..." Karen pecked him, turned around and glided towards the area of the blast. Jake tucked his wings back in and kept his eyes on her.

"Can people really be that annoying by nature?" Jake said softly.

----

I began to stir, rustling the leaves of the makeshift tent Pan built. The noise took her attention away from the small fire she was smothering.

"You're finally up." She said with tears in her eyes.

"Why are you crying?" I asked.

"I was worried. Also I had a bit of trouble with the smoke from that fire." She chuckled, clutching my hand. "You okay?"

"I think I'll be alright, Pan, thank you." I answered with a grin. "What happened?"

"I dunno, you just... Lost it. I mean, as soon as you saw those Murkrow, you got all blood thirsty and zapped them all." Pan explained. "You like shot a dragon made of pure electricity out of your hand. After that you collapsed and I set up camp right away."

"Good thinking, Pan." I gave her a thumbs up. "How long was I out?"

"About an hour I guess." She said. "It got dark a few minutes after you collapsed. I didn't want to be out in the open while you were defenseless, so I carried you on my back into this tiny clearing. The trees provide better cover than where we were before."

"Thank you." I sat up, a leaf blanket still around my shoulders. "If this happens again, don't worry too much. I'm still learning to control my blood lust, I guess."

"I don't think you killed them, since they didn't disappear, but please, Ry, try and take it easy."

"I'll do my best." I said.

Pan sighed and put a hand over her chest. "Jeez, I've never been so scared before. I'm sorry."

"Don't worry about, Pan." I reassured her, placing a hand on her cheek. "This has happened before. Worse than this even."

"How so?" She asked.

"Last time I lost control, Zekrom wasn't inside of me and I was completely detached from my body. He had to speed over to my location and inhabit my body before it went on an absolute rampage. While he did that, I was stuck in some kind of dream world."

"Wow, I didn't know that someone could be separated from their body like that." Pan said, with an astonished expression. "Well, you're alright now. That's all that matters."

The blanket fell from my shoulders. I looked down at my bare upper body. "You undressed me?" I asked with a smirk.

Pan blushed and scratched her cheek, averting her gaze to the side. "Well, I uh... I took your jacket and shirt off because it got warmer and a bit humid. That's all...."

"Right. Seeing as it's..." I lifted my wrist and materialized a watch to it. As well as the time it displayed the temperature of a 50 meter circle centered around us. "forty degrees here..."

Pan continued to look away. "Um..."

"Don't worry about it." I said holding out my arms. "C'mere."

Pan wasted no time getting under the covers with me and letting me hug her. "Aww, you're such a baby."

"Shut up." Pan whispered. "You spend body heat when you talk."

"I have electricity flow at the speed of lighting in my blood, Panara. If it wasn't for my skin, you'd be feeling heat five times hotter than the Milky Way solar system's sun." I slid onto my back.

"Whatever." Pan breathed. "So are you mad at me?"

"Nah, I know you were genuinely worried about me and you just wanted me to be comfortable. I would've done the same for you." I slightly rocked her. "I have to admit, it feels weird being taken care of for a change. I guess I should go crazy more often, ha ha!"

"Still you shouldn't joke about it, even if you have a twisted sense of humor..." Pan quickly grew drowsy. "But I guess, you do deserve more. Cristina and Jason told me all about how you cared for them, especially Cristina. Even though you took care of Jason right out of the egg, I feel she's more grateful that she has yo than Jason is. And I don't mean in a bad way."

"I know." I answered. "I've been through more danger with her than with Jason. In fact, this is the first time Jason was involved in a conflict between an enemy of mine. He's a strong kid, though. He'll get through Flannery's death pretty soon."

"Don't be too sure. He'll need help with that, for sure." Pan said. "Right before he left, he was pretending that he really wanted to see Jake die for what he did. He acted as if death excited him. I know i've only known him for a little bit, but I know that's not how he is. He seems really skilled at keeping his cool, at least until he's alone."

"Jason's not alone." I whispered. "He has Cristina with him, and knowing her, she won't allow him to bottle up his emotions. She knows that Pokemon get sick from just that. Don't worry about it, just get some sleep."

"Right..." Pan whispered. "Love you..."

"Love you too, Pan." I smiled. "This'll all be over soon. I promise..."

Let me just start by saying a few most likely unwanted things. This is too long in my opinion. I'm not saying to cut down on the actual story, but I'm saying to chop this up into three parts as you indicated with your double-dashes. For the unfortunate people of YWS who have low attention spans, like I, this reading was a challenge.
My second woe is that your punctuation is incorrect. When it comes to quotations, there are several correct ways to do it.
"Love you too, Pan," I smiled. "This'll all be over soon. I promise."
"Love you too, Pan", I smiled. "This'll all be over soon. I promise."
"Love you too, Pan," I smiled, "this'll all be over soon. I promise."
It's up to you which one you choose, but this is the correct way to punctuate quotations. If the speech tag follows the quote, end the quote with a comma. If the quote would normally end with a period, end the speech tag with a period. If the speech tag divides the quote, end the first quote with a comma and end the speech tag with a comma. Respectively, begin the second quote with a lower case.
As for your story, coming in late to the party as I am, I don't truly understand what's going on. However, your story beautifully illustrated the relationship between Pan and Ryan, as well as tying in Pokémon. I used to write Pokémon stories and I would either forget to illustrate me characters, or forget about my Pokémon. It would infuriate me, so I commend you on your ability.
Thank you for the story, keep writing!

Hey, dark! Didn't think you could post a chapter without getting a review from me, did you? So, looking back at this chapter, nothing much really happens. At the same time, there's a big event. I mean, in terms of the battle that Ryan's been chasing, he gets no closer to his quarry and basically just takes out a bunch of little helpers. For readers following the battle, that feels like nothing -- not satisfying. But at the same time, we are taken back to a point in history and given a repeat of Ryan's rampage. This is a big step in his character development and in his relationship with Pan, but not really related to the battle.

What I'm wondering is why you broke up the flow of the battle for this event. Obviously I don't know the plot and what you've planned/written, but is it important for Ryan to have this event/realization/journey in the middle of chasing Jake? We lose some of the sense of a chase, which is kind of odd when we think about how Jake just KILLED somebody. We figured Ryan would go after this kid with no delays, but suddenly he's with Pan in a tent, camping and cuddling. Meanwhile, what are Jason and Cristina doing? They probably expected for Ryan to come back later that day, so how do they feel when it's night and he's not back. Do they trust him that much? I wonder about them.

Also, though I love what Karen revealed (that Jake does care about his sister and THAT's the reason she shouldn't call him Jakey), I wonder if it could be done in a subtler way. Right now you have a habit of letting characters reveal things you know as if they've known them all along. That would be like me saying, right when I transferred colleges, "This will probably be really expensive and I'll regret racking up so much debt, but it'll also give me a path to my future career." No way I could have known that!

So letting Karen know EVERYTHING about how Jake is feeling and why seems a little odd. I can't believe it. I'd be able to believe it if maybe she called him Jakey one more time and he got really angry, then she seemed to suddenly realize why he was angry, and say something subtle like, "Oh, right. Flannery used to..." That would give the readers a hint as to why Jake is upset and let us figure it out instead of having the character give it to us directly, you know?

Okay! As always, PM or reply with a question or comments~
Good luck and keep writing! Get those reviews so I can read the next part~

As always, appreciate the review!
