pink blossoms i scatter become poems

Image

I often think of poetry as a more intimate way of diary-writing; where we simultaneously address ourselves and the others. In pink blossoms i scatter become poems, I hope to be more honest and raw to myself than ever before. Here’s to poetry, a way to look deeper, a way to vent and a way to confront our darkest and our deepest.

~keep calm & do NaPo!~

i. persistence of memory / time moves on (diary notes)

Spoiler
as mentioned earlier, I wanted to be more honest to myself in these poems. So, I’ve decided to write a diary-note on each poem and click a picture & post it after each poem.

Hey, Rida! Salvador Dali's Persistance of a Memory is an inspiring piece, and I'm excited to see another poet's perspective! The repetition of the line "who's to say ghosts aren't just memories and memories aren't just ghosts" is almost unsettling in a thought-provoking way. It makes me want to sit and ponder the difference between a simple memory and the afterlife. Also, your handwriting is gorgeous! It looks like it could be a font. Excellent job all around.

@AlmostImmortal thank you for the kind words <333
I’m glad to know my experimental use of repetition was a success! ^^
(And thank you for saying my handwriting is good, though my teachers beg to differ XD)

Hi @rida! Really strong start to NaPo! I love the idea of the diary notes, they add a layer of meaning to your poetry and also make the thread feel more personalised.

persistence of memory / time moves on

I like the formatting of this poem! The phrases feel kind of 'broken up' but also 'flowing downwards' like Salvador Dali's clocks. My favourite image was "the mist-strands disintegrate/ and re-form/ as fishes". It's mysterious yet specific and concrete.

under moonlight, almond splits

Really like this one, and the diary note that comes with it! "unclothed almond" is a very striking phrase and makes me think of a 'reveal', maybe of some truth. I also love that whole stanza with the lines starting "i refuse . . . i refuse . . . ". There's a lot of colour and imaginativeness to it. And the final line "my eyes belong to two halves" is a chilling finish!

All the best for NaPo!

Hi @Liminality!
I’m glad you caught the ‘text flowing down’ effect on my poem! I hadn’t actually planned it, and now that you mentioned it, I guess I might’ve subconsciously added it! I’m glad you enjoyed my second poem, it’s a topic I’ve been thinking over for a long time!
Thanks again for the lovely comment!
Good luck for NaPo!

You have so many little poetry gems in here already rida and I think the handwritten poetic interludes add such a personal and authentic-feeling note to the thread too. There's something about handwritten things that just feels like even the letters themselves are speaking. :)

In your 1st poem I love how originally but also seamlessly you jump from fish to ghosts to exorcists - that was very unique and intriguing.

In poem the lines "I refuse to acknowledge time; the sun withers, the moon preens" and then how that was attached to bodily aging was really nice and I like the speaker's confident tone despite the shifting of things around them in that one.

Good use of repetition throughout the last poem, creates an almost word-ripple throughout the poem as the words are repeated in new ways.

Really looking forward to the rest of your thread rida, keep going, you've got this! :)
