Just woke up from a dream,
It was about you.
It's two in the morning.
The moon is still glowing,
Stars still shining.
It's been more than half a year,
Since I confessed.
Since I told you that you were the one.
We haven't talked much in all this time,
Maybe because you don't want to,
And I can't dare to.
Yes, I admit that I've been avoiding you,
Not looking at you, even when I know you're there,
Not responding to your occasional "Hi!"s & "Hello!"s
But how could I?
I just don't have the guts to.
You're happy in your world.
And I'm struggling in mine.
But here I am,
In the middle of this weirdly amazing night,
Gazing at my smartphone,
Thinking of you.
Contemplating, whether or not to text you.
Should I ask you out, propose, maybe?
Or should I just go back to my troubled sleep?
Finally, after gathering enough courage,
I write a long text.
Telling you how beautiful you are.
How much you mean to me.
And how much I want you.
But all of this,
Only to delete it later...
Just because of the fear,
Fear of rejection,
Fear of failure,
Fear...of losing you forever.
So I again lay my head down,
And doze off,
With a tear in my eye,
And a sense of regret in my heart.
Perpetually telling to myself,
"Oh, I should've asked..."

This is an excellently written poem, and very- well, not quite relatable, (At least not for me!) but very understandable. The narrator's feelings and concerns are very poignantly written, and visual imagery is very strong. My few critiques are 1: all the commas are a bit repetitive. Try to add some variation. 2: I would change 'weirdly' to 'strangely', just because it'll raise the tone of the story. Keep up the good work!
Hey thanks for that amazing review! I agree on all that you suggested. I'm still on the learning curve and so I might have missed those points. Anyway, thanks again!
I really like this poem. It definitely is quite relatable in terms of being afraid to express your feelings towards someone that you like. I've definitely been there myself and I think you wrote this well. There is a bit of uneven pace, I think, some spots being a little rushed whereas others slow down. One line I thought could be formatted a little different was the "Hi's and Hello's" line, where I think you could clean that up to be less hard to read.
Some lines were a bit cut short to me, but maybe that was just the way I was reading it. One line "Contemplating, whether or not to text you" I think you could leave out the comma and it would make it run smoother. I like the use of ellipsis in the line "Fear... of losing you forever." It really increases the drama of that statement.
Good job on this and happy writing!
Thanks for the wonderful review. Appreciate the suggestions. The comma in that line was intended as I felt like it needed a slight pause. Anyway, thanks for the time!
Legacy here for a review.
I love the content and the story you are telling. The way it is written though makes everything feel rushed. It would feel better paced if you were to put stanza breaks where you start to change direction. You know where you would naturally take a longer pause between directions. If you were to fix that, then your poem wouldn't feel too rushed and the story would make more sense.
Legacy out.
I tried breaking it into stanzas but the website again and again made it the way it is, I guess there's some bug in it. Although thanks for the review!
It is very picky about stanza breaks. I usually put dashes for my stanza break so that it recognizes a character there instead of a typical line break. You can look at some of my works if this wording is unclear.
Hi, Vagrant! I really like this poem. I relate to this on a spiritual level
Your poem is very honest and from the heart.
I'm excited to read more of your work.
Interpretation:
I interpreted this to be about your narrator contemplating telling the one they love how beautiful they are, and eventually giving in to their fears and not telling them. I think we can all relate to hiding our feelings away because we're too scared to let them out. Kudos to you for writing a universal poem.
Stuff I Like:
To me, this reads a little bit like a modern 1950s love song. I don't know why, it's just the description of the moon in the sky and the night. It's reminiscent of "Tears on My Pillow," maybe. I like how it ends on a melancholy note, too- it's very bittersweet.
I also like how you give backstory while describing the setting, so it's like a lyrical scene from a novel. You convey the relationship between the narrator and the love interest in just the right way- not too convoluted, not too simplistic. It's hard to tell a story in a poem, and you pulled it off.
I think everyone who's ever had a crush can relate to wanting to tell their love interest what they feel but fearing rejection. Your poem feels honest and personal, but is still relatable.
Stuff On Which You Could Improve:
Phrasing, Ect.
There are a few instances of slightly awkward wording or phrasing throughout the piece. "Just woke up from a dream," could become, "I just woke up from a dream." You could turn "the moon is still glowing, stars still shining" into "the moon is still glowing, and the stars were still shining." "Can't dare to," could change to "won't dare to," though that's optional. Makes sense either way. Maybe elaborate on "But how could I?" and change it to "But how could I do those things?" or "But how could I do that?" so the context is clearer. I think "weirdly amazing night" needs to be more specific. What makes it weird? What makes it amazing? "But all of this, only to delete it later," can become, "But I wrote all of this only to delete it later," because context. And "perpetually telling to myself," can be "Perpetually telling myself."
Punctuation
NOTE: All of these are optional changes that I think would read better. Don't take these to heart and think they're completely destroying your piece, this is just my opinion of what would fit better with your prose.
"Just woke up from a dream, it was about you." - Just woke up from a dream. It was about you.
"It's been more than half a year, Since I confessed." - remove the comma in between year and since
"Since I confessed. Since I told you that you were the one." - add a dash instead of a period; "since I told you that you were the one" is a fragment.
"We haven't talked in all this time," - add a hyphen at the end to connect it to "maybe because you don't want to, and I can't dare to."
"Yes, I admit that I've been avoiding you," - replace the comma with a colon, since you're about to list some examples.
"You're happy in your world. And I'm struggling in mine." - "You're happy in your world, and I'm struggling in mine."
"Contemplating, whether or not to text you." - remove the comma
"Should I ask you out, propose, maybe?" maybe add an "or" in between "out" and "propose."
"And doze off, with a tear in my eye..." - 'And doze off with a tear in my eye."
Sorry for the long-ass review! I hope I don't seem nit-picky or rude. I really enjoyed this poem, it was very true and bittersweet. Right now, I'm feeling the same about a guy, except I've never dated him, nor do I have his number. So, RIP me. And good job to you for writing an honest, relatable piece that put a clear picture in my head
Happy writing,
Stella
Hey! Thanks a ton for that amazing review! Glad that you liked it and yes mostly all the suggestions you gave were intended to be that way. Though, I understand that as a reader you will have a better opinion. And I'm still learning to write so just ignore some mistakes. Also, you can read my previous poems on my profile! Thanks a lot, again!
