Ode to My Guardian Angel

My mother once told me
An angel from heaven
Guards and protects little children
Day and night.
As a young mind, I began to imagine my guardian angel
With huge white wings, and
With a sword to fight my fears.
Before I close my eyes to sleep
I would pray to God
To send His angel to keep me safe
As well as my family;
To feel peace as I sleep,
To dream a peaceful dream,
And to wake up to a bright, new day.
Wherever I am
I can feel my angel's presence
Protecting me like a cloud protects the sun, and
Although I couldn't see any
Winged angel
I could always feel a comforting hand
On my shoulder whenever I am sad.

My view of the world changed
When I grew up:
No more imaginations,
No more childish laughter.
I simply smile while thinking about my guardian angel,
Because I thought
It was just my vivid mind
That created the heavenly being,
But then, I realized
That my angel is a true person.
A person who comforts me,
Who guides and protects me,
And always makes me happy.

To my loving mother,
I pray to God that He will keep you safe and sound.
Let me be your guardian angel,
The same as you are to mine.
With this ode, I offer
My love and success
And although a poem is not enough,
I sincerely give all my thanks.

I really like this poem, particularly the imagery you created in my mind with the powerful words. This is a very nice ode, and the emotions are conveyed just right. Contrary to what other comments say though, I think that your punctuation usage is just right. (This may due to the fact that I also like this particular style very much.) Great job!

Hello, to start I really loved the creativity you brought to a slightly overused topic, I thought it was brilliant. Although, there were some things that I felt were just odd, and made the poem not flow together well. First off, using more punctuation, especially in the first stanza, would have made it a much more appealing read. Also, I found this line "As well as my family;
To feel peace as I sleep" stopped the flow of the poem and just felt odd. I would suggest changing it or just rewording it. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good poem, just needs a few tweaks, and it could be a really good work of poetry. Keep writing! :) - Hsarver

ok...firstly, it was good. i definitely loved it. but during the beginning i found it hard go read due to lack of punctuations. But generally, it was good, it made me want to read more and reminded me of what my mum also used to tell me when she tucked me in at night. so keep writing...

Wow I just saw a religious song posted. Very powerful. I really needed something like this. I asked someone to pray for me. Do you mind if you do it too? I am going in for surgery tomorrow. I don't feel like my family is there for me. Anyways, god bless.

I have my books and my poetry to protect me.
