I Envy Poets

by WaltzingDreams

E - Everyone

In Poetry

Really, what is there to admire?

But to watch them,

Kindle the flame and set words

On passionate fire?

*

Their unmatched precision,

With the same words we use

Vexes me with the delusion,

Of being one of them, some day.

The dream of brevity no writer can refuse.

*

How do they do it? The perfection of rhythm?

The timeliness of beat?

When their loves end and warriors retreat?

I know not.

-

In case you were wondering,

I am just a verse-less novelist.

And this was just my rant,

In a poetic formatting.

Even I envy the words of poets. And one day aspire to become one. I really like the way you glorified poets but called yourself a verse-less novelist. So to say, your rant was indeed poetic! ;)

I just wish it was a bit longer, maybe because I would have liked to read more of glorification of poets xD

I loved this!! My favorite part was the bit of humor at the end. It ties the whole thing together and is also a bit ironic because you seem to me like an excellent poet.

My only suggestion is to maybe expand on some of your ideas and metaphors a little more, just to really get your meaning out there.

Overall, I loved it and can relate to it. Your word selection was near perfect and the poem flowed beautifully. Keep writing!!!

Love it!
I love the irony of it and the diction you used like "unmatched precision", "brevity", and "vexes". I especially adore the message of it! I can't wait to read more from you!

To critique it, I would say capitalizing every sentence is unnecessary. I love the metaphors so you could also expand on those more as well.

Keep writing!

Thank you, thanks!

Hey there WaltzingDreams, Hadj here for my first review in 7 months!
This poem was kind of creative, but there was a lot that was awkward to read, and it didn't really flow properly.

Rhyme
So, a lot of the rhyming in this poem was really off. I wasn't sure if precision and delusion were meant to rhyme (they don't really), and the same for wondering and formatting. The rest of the rhyming lines rhymed alright, but they were so far apart, that the rhyme was hardly noticeable when reading.

Rhythm
Even more so than the rhyming, the rhythm in this poem really bothered me. A lot of your lines were disproportionately long or short, and I couldn't find a way to make it flow. There might be a specific way of reading this, in which the rhythm would sound more concrete, but I couldn't figure it out.

Potential edit of 1st stanza
Really, what is there to admire?
But to watch them,
Kindle the flame and set words
Exploding with passionate fire?

The longer syllable count in the last line makes it flow better with the rest of the stanza, and having almost the same syllable count as the 1st line, the rhyme is more noticeable too.

Overall Impression
This poem was short, creative, relatable, and easy to read. It could definitely use some work on rhyme/rhythm though to make it flow better. Great work, and I hope to read more from you.

Keep writing!
Hadj

Thanks for the feedback! Will take note next time.

And precision and delusion does rhyme. As an eye and scarce rhyme...

You could say the do rhyme, but it's a very weak rhyme, so it doesn't really stand out when reading it.

Hello WaltzingDreams, its TheMastermind here with a nice creative and quirky review that you will surely enjoy and have fun. Do you really feel what you wrote in the poem? If you are wondering why I asked that it is because my emotional poetry is rarely what I feel, it is just sort of an artificial emotion. I share your angst because we are no the best of poets nor are we contenders.
In case you wanted to know, this was my favourite stanza
Their unmatched precision,

With the same words we use

Vexes me with the delusion,

Of being one of them, some day.

The dream of brevity no writer can refuse.
The last stanza was also very beautiful in explaining the angst and the pain and feelings a writer/poet/creative person gets when the cannot create anything new.

Do i feel what i wrote in the poem? Yes and no, unfortunately. I still have more ideas for a stanza, elaborating into something deeper, but then i learned that people would like short poems better.
Okay, i think i also want to make an angst poem series. Haha.
Thanks for the review! And i'm glad you liked it.

Hello WaltzingDreams, Nunya here for review time! I really like your poem I write a lot myself. I think I have 26 anyway, we're not here to talk about me. I really don't have anything critical to say about this just maybe change the end so it rhymes. Like this maybe:

In case you were wondering,

I am just a verse-less novelist.

And this was just my rant,

In a poetic format.

So that it rhymes but I really enjoyed this. Keep writing and NEVER get discouraged! :D

Thank you for the review. :)

I can relate this, mainly because I'm terrible with poetry. I always struggled to make the words fit together in the perfect rhythm and to recognize the exact beat of each line. I've resigned myself to seeing how my brain likes the words. Fortunately, my brain likes the words! It's well written and smooth, like running a hand over something cleaned and polished. Also gives credit to all those awesome poets out there. Great piece!

Thanks for the review! :D

Hey, there! First off, I wanted to say that I loved this poem, as I too, envy poets.

1) "Kindle the flame and set words/On passionate fire?" I love this sentence, so true and so picturesque of a poet in my opinion.

2) In the first paragraph, I honestly could find nothing wrong in lieu of rhyme or rhythm until I got to the next paragraph. When you first started this poem, you had it going as A/B B/A which is totally fine until you get to the next paragraph. Here you go to A/B A/C B. There is nothing wrong with five lines in a stanza of poetry, but it kind of interrupted flow, and I had to read it a few times before realizing what you meant. I would suggest that here you either abolish phrase C completely, or figure out how to work it into the format you started off with.

3) Over the third paragraph, I had a sense of the thought you put into it, but more a sense of confusion as there seemed to be no rhythm to the first very long sentences and then the short ones.

4) I love how you go back on paragraph four and tell us you are just a "verse-less novelist" and this is just your "rant", but here you go back to the A/B B/A rhythm and it is again a little confusing.

I absolutely loved the thought behind this poem, and apologize as I feel I am being a bit rough. I'm not a poet expert, but I can give you a reader's opinion. You have great potential and I feel like with a bit of polishing this could turn out really well.
Let me know if I was missing the meaning or reasoning for something in here.
Hope to read more someday!!!

Hey Raging! Thanks for the review and your time in reading this little poem. %uD83D%uDE0A
Yeah, and the varying rhyme schemes and rhythm was intentional. I wanted to bring out different intonations and beats to represent my true confusion with this art.
Thank you for the review and the tips! I will take not e of them. %uD83D%uDE0A

OK, thanks for telling me!
