You seeing me

In Poems

“See how well I know you,”

you announce, staring into the mirror between yourself and I

Your distorted reflection bearing my misused name

It gives you the confirmation you seek.

~

Within the walls of my reflective cage,

glass echoing myself back to me,

your words make their cuts.

~

A loving embrace from you slices me with mirror shards

How do you not feel it?

~

“I know you better than you know yourself,”

proud words from your lips as you stare into your own eyes

you still think they are mine.

~

My protests are caught in the web of my own morals.

How can i attack you for not seeing me

when I, too, see only a mirror when I glance in your direction?

~

We dance around one another,

acknowledging only ourselves,

pretending to know each other.

~

Every expression of love cuts skin on glass,

and we blame each other.

Heya, just a lil review from Rubes

Oh wow, safe to say this hit hard. I can acknowledge and understand the thoughts and feelings brought out in this poem. The message of not knowing yourself anymore is clear and can be interpreted in many ways ; I love it!
It gives an underlying meaning of lonesomeness with the glass and mirror reflection details throughout the piece. It gives another true emotion to the poem, in which the reader can experience whilst reading, it is magical and difficult to fully achieve so well done on that.

“See how well I know you,”

Your distorted reflection bearing my misused name

This part of the poem is awesome, it gives the reader a unique picture in their head, which I like a lot. The word distorted tells me that you almost feel shame and no sense of comfort in your appearance (at least that's what I gathered) whilst also feeling forced to be with yourself, hence why you mentioned the mirror. It is an excellent section and flows beautifully.

Every expression of love cuts skin on glass,

and we blame each other.

This part also hits rather harshly. The phrase "...of love cuts skin..." gives me an idea of cutting...maybe. Cutting from a lost love, or shame in your reflection, in which you see in the glass reflection. I am so sorry if that's wrong, this is just how I as the reader see it. When you say blame each other, it gives me a suggestion of not having anyone by you to blame or to release the stress on, so the mirror is the only person to blame it on. AKA yourself, however not directly to your own individual character.

I am so sorry if the ideas I gathered were not intended. Either way I really loved this piece ; everything was on point - vocab, flow and structure - and had a mesmerizing effect on the poem itself.
Please keep on writing, you quite obviously have a talent for it!

Keep writing happily and stay safe,
Love Rubes x

PS: I am so sorry it's so long haha :)

Hey there! I'm here to review your poem!

First of all, this is a really good poem.
It flows together very well, which is always a good thing.
I also like how you used the mirror as a metaphor and continued to use it throughout, because it keeps the poem consistent, and it also really helps to get your point across.
Another good thing about your poem is that you wrote about something really interesting and in need of having light shed on it. Usually when I see things about this topic, it's always about how the other person (the person who isn't the POV character) is the one only paying attention to themselves and pretending they know the POV character, or vice versa. But this poem exposed how both of them were acting this way, which is really awesome and unique.

The only thing that I think needs to be fixed is the capitalization and the punctuation.
The first word of each line should have a capitalized first letter in it, even if it isn't somebody's name, the pronoun 'I', or the start of a sentence (unless you have it like that on purpose; then you don't have to). Also, in the second line of the fifth stanza, the pronoun 'I' needs to be capitalized.
As for punctuation, the second line of the first stanza and the first line of the third stanza just need to have periods at the end.

Thank you for reading, and good job on the poem! I hope you have an amazetastical day!

Wow. So this is absolutely breathtaking. I really wish I could leave a review for you, but honestly, this feels so well-thought out and heart-breaking that I don’t have any grows I could give you. Since I try to only leave reviews if I think I could really offer something, I’m just going to comment saying this is a beautiful poem. For me, the first thing that popped in my head is being trans (seeing as I am genderfluid) and having a constant struggle with myself of “am I faking it?” and “am I really just a trans man?” which changes back and forth depending on the gender I’m feeling. Feeling like you’re being cut by this other person who looks like you is such a strong mental image and yet one that I relate to completely. Amazing job. You deserve all the praise for this, it’s honestly beautiful.

I just read your poem, and it was amazing. My favorite part, personally, is the structure of your poem. To me, at least, it was just as chaotic and fluid as reflecting mirrors. I love how the style of your poem reflects on what your poem is about. (no pun intended)
