She thinks we don't notice,
Most people don't notice,
But I do.
She thinks that she can hide it.
She's learned to hide in the shadows.
They won't protect her forever.
Everyday I watch, waiting and hoping
For a sign of hope, of improvement.
Everyday is the same.
I watch her fall, fall, fall,
Deeper and deeper into the hole she's trapped herself in,
Soon she won't be able to crawl out.
One day I break the cycle,
Enough is enough.
If she will not speak up, then I will speak out.
"Why are you doing this to yourself?" I ask.
She says that she is fine. Her eyes lie.
Those two orbs of green are clouded with pain, loneliness, and fear.
"Please stop this. Let me help you,"
I can see her become defensive, withdrawn.
I can feel her putting up wall after wall between us.
She tugs at her long sleeves, covering her constant reminders of pain.
She turns away from me, and says,
"You don't understand."
"You're wrong," I say.
I offer her my wrists, shackled with my battle scars,
Scars from a battle I won.
"I do understand."
Very inspirational to those out there that may be dealing with difficult times. I myself do not cut or even pretend to understand the purpose of doing so, but your poem is still beautiful. It seems slightly choppy perhaps from the various lengths of the different stanzas. I paints a beautiful image of someone finding a friend/someone who has "been there before" to confide in.
My favorite bit is the very beginning. No one else notices, but you do. Simple, but extremely meaningful.
Great job!
Thanks for what you said. I will work on the flow of the stanzas for sure!

This is a very moving and touching poem. Though the flow isn't consistent, the meaning behind the words is strong. And though flow is important, I feel like the meaning is more important. I love how this poem shows cutting and perhaps even suicide from an outsider's point of view instead of the cliche of seeing it from the cutters point of view. I also love how it doesn't criticize, but in a way supports and shows that there is hope and a way out of the pain people will sometimes put themselves into. Now that the meaning is solid, I suggest moving onto working on the flow of the poem and keeping the length of the stanzas consistent. Other than those little things. Great poem. I loved it, keep writing.
