You,
m'dear,
new to my world
a cloud
folded beneath me
your soul
a feather
your heart
a dandelion seed
cradled
in the sway of your perfection
my eyes drop
cheek at your ear
hand stroking
a
heavenly bodice
let my sleep,
dearest,
my silk,
my rest,
king of all pillows;
plant me dreams
-as I lie on your bed-
of rivers,
and fields,
of water and daisies
and stones
woven
from
gosling's down

Hey there! I just wanted to say, this is really awesome. You're so eloquent in how you've described the mattress as a {cloud folded beneath you} , that really created a brilliant image for me... in addition to all the little metaphors and techniques that are just so descriptive! It kind of makes me appreciate my mattress more, because without it there probably wouldn't be the pleasant dreams etc xD. Also, I really like how you've personified the mattress in both the title and through second person pronouns. This is really cool, quirky and creative so well done! x
Hi, socks...it's the first I am reading your writing and reviewing...well, you already know that I am new here so I still lack skills of reviewing...but I'll let you know how I've felt reading this poem...
You have already given me "socking"phobia...now I think I'm gonna have "mat tress"phobia...
I loooved the first three lines- "You, m'dear , new to my world" ....then the cloud ...I guess, the mattress is white?? Then you tell us that a mattress also has a soul-it's feathers....
As long as I read the poem, I felt it...felt the love for a mattress ...a mattress is not only a piece of furniture to sit or sleep...it's a dear one in life who gives you his whole body only so that you can have sweet ( sometimes sour when you are stressed) dreams....and enjoy the feeling of the silk smooth skin in your palm...ahhh...pleases me..the thought...
Really loved it, dude...
Short review, here. I totally dig this, because I am a heavy sleeper and I've got a really comfortable bed, So when you use the word "cradled" I totally feel you there. Same with the word "cloud", that was good, because later (I assume you're talking about dreams to be had, WHILE laying on "Mat Tress") I got some good imagery of floating on a cloud, across a very happy place. Like the promised land from the bible, all green and lush, "of rivers, and fields, of water and daisies and stones".
One thing I'd like to point out, however, not even much of an issue, but your commas are a little out of wack/inconsistent. And, I didn't understand that last metaphor, The "gosling's down", just went... WRITE ...over my head. Ha. Little pun for a few extra points. SPEAKING OF METAPHORS: It's sorta all metaphor in there. A few simile's here and there would keep things a little more... I dunno, "Crisp"? Makes for a better flow. But, hey, if you're a metaphor type, Metaphor away, my friend.
Have a jolly good day, Bucko. Happy Writing!
Hi Holysocks!
I really like your poem about your new mattress! My favorite line in your poem is "dearest, my silk, my rest, king of all pillows" because it adds to the humorous yet, delicate love that you share for your new mattress. I think readers will be able to relate to your poem because most people love coming back home after a long, stressful day of school or work to their nice, soft bed.
I know I do, haha. If I were to add anything to your poem, I would have wrote about your old mattress and how you felt parting with it. Where you able to move on easily or did you feel attached to your old mattress? Anyway, great job overall!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
