Wisdom of Children

In Poetry

Sometimes,
I'm surprised at how wise
children can be.
Hearing only occasional screams
above my music as I work,
I didn't know why the little boy
was crying.
But it was when I turned my music off
and began to pack my things
did I overhear a partial conversation
between mother and son:

Do you need a tissue?
she asked.

No,
he replied
as he wiped his eyes.
I'm just frustrated.
I can't stop crying.
I know if I get the tears out
I'll quit crying,
but I can't do it.
I'm just really frustrated.

Let's get you something to drink,
she said.

I sympathize with the little boy.
Sometimes I get frustrated,
and I just need to get the tears out.
It's easy for you,
little boy,
to let your tears flow.
When you get older,
it's harder to let the tears run
because when you're older it's more important
that you appear calm and collected in public,
and there is no time to even shed a tear.
Be frustrated,
wear your heart on your sleeve.
And someday,
when you're older
and frustrated by the things of the adult world,
I hope you remember that
it is okay to cry,
to let the tears out
so you don't have to cry anymore.

ditto! I can't cry either! lol :)

Hey you! This is really good. I'm rather impressed at how talented people are on here. Wow.

I used to think poems had to be so uniform, with rhyming and perfect rhythm. You've proved me so very... wrong. I loved this and have nothing to say other than positive things. Write on! Lol, i'm so cheesy.

Okay. Well. Goodnight! Keep writing, I can't wait until you post another piece! PM me when you do!

Love,

Wow! Wow! and thrice times Wow! This was really good.
I myself am one of those people who never cries. (I actually don't think I can.) So this really spoke to me because when I was little, I would cry all the time and I used to wonder if you could use up all your tears. I have to agree with SunSetWest: this is amazing. It is poetry with a meaning. I like it. :]
Thank you for giving me something good to ponder tonight.

Wow, things is really really good. I mean, I loved it. I feel it fits more as a Narrative Poem, but it fits in either category. Now I did find one or two grammatical errors though.

Line 26- Sometime should be some times.

Wow, *Looks over again* that's really all I see wrong. As a future teacher you receive an A+!

I'd love to read your next piece! PM me and I'd be happy to take a look at it.

Ciao, SunSetWest.
