Clean

In Poetry

As the water burst forth from the showerhead,
washing the dirt from my body,
I thought of how dirty you made me feel,
and how I need to wash your filth off of my soul.

The smell of Irish Spring fills my nose,
eliminating most of the stench of your lies.
The oils on my skin slide away,
just like all of the "I love yous" and
"You're my everythings" that you gave to me.
The Head & Shoulders on my head and shoulders
washes away the grease and the image of
you and that bastard
fucking in the bed that we once shared.

Lather. Rinse.
Don't repeat the same mistake.

I stood under the water for a long while,
making sure it ran through
every part of my body.
And when I turned the water off,
and toweled myself down,
it's like you were never even there.

I like that line, full of emotion, can't really place it any other way.

First, I hope this is not a feeling you've had even though I am sure it is since, the pain in this poem is hard to fake. This is a topic that many viewers could relate to which is good I like the allusions you use, with the head and shoulders and the standard lather, rinse, repeat.....I like this very much but...

"you and that bastard fucking in the bed that we once shared."

maybe this could have been more poetic!

Spoiler
This review will be lousy.

Nice, a great free form poem. Easy to read and full of messages, this is my type of poetry. The whole thing is like one epic metaphor that address something most of us have been though. Although I have experienced what you have written about I still feel like I can relate. Your use of language is very clever!
My only issues are the lack or rating, you don't want to scare of the children and the fact that your last stanza seemed weak compared to the others, which where quite amazing. Although the last stanza gives the impression that the cleansing is over, the majority of it just lacks the personality and tone the other stanza's have, it's like your just describing what your doing. Although the last line is quite amazing.

Great work!
