Why must I remain here?
Why am I so constrained?
Iron bars and barbed wires
Brick walls
Please
Let me go
My mind is alive
Flowers bloom
and light refracts
Shining ideas grow like gems
But I can not speak
Nor answer the simplest questions
My thoughts
forever locked away.
"The solution is simple,"
Others say
I've even whispered it to myself
On dark nights
When the winds blow strong
The tears have fallen
And regret is high
"Simply speak, the others don't care."
This I know, yet the walls only grow stronger
I am trapped
The prison is perfect
And I built it myself.

Hi there! Deeproses here for a review and a lil piece of my opinion!
First off, wow, what a poem. The imagery made it seem as if the narrator was an ACTUAL prisoner, but reading it more and more I realized that the narrator is not trapped behind actual bars, but metaphorical bars-- doubt, sadness, guilt, grief. That the narrator is hiding from people knowing how they really feel. This is a really powerful topic and idea. I really loved how the whole poem was a single metaphor, comparing the sadness of the narrator to the feeling of actually being locked away. It is a beautiful concept and you did a wonderful job capturing it. The title was a good idea, as it fit the theme of the poem perfectly.
I think your style when writing this poem was wonderful as well, so good job on that too!
One thing I would recommend critiquing is how the poem kind of dragged on, only a little bit though...
For example the first stanza:
Maybe the last two lines (the questions) should be the opening of the stanza/poem? I feel like them being at the end of the first stanza kind of made the flow a bit ruined.
Another thing I would consider doing for future works is italicizing quotes.
Example: Stanza 4
I think it would look a bit nicer saying:
"The solution is simple,"
Others say
I've even whispered it to myself
On dark nights
When the winds blow strong
The tears have fallen
And regret is high
"Simply speak, the others don't care."
Besides the two little things I have stated, I think this poem was a wonderful read. You did a very nice and beautiful job!
Hope you use these tips for future works and I hope to see you write more. I loved reading this poem. Keep up the good work and have a good day!
Thank you for the review!
Hello, I'm sandman and I'll be your review on this lovely evening!
So let's just dive right into the good things, shall we? So, first, I love how the title of the poem clearly reflects what the poem is about. It is something that I wish I could do with my poetry... sssshhh that'll be between us okay. I get the feeling of being lost but not knowing what to do, like being trapped inside yourself unable to escape. It makes me happy that someone wrote something like this because, it means that they're a warrior and they've been through something that makes them able to write about something like this and the fact that they're brave enough to share it is amazing.
"'The solution is simple,'
Others say
I've even whispered it to myself
On dark nights
When the winds blow strong
The tears have fallen
And regret is high
'Simply speak, the others don't care.'
This I know, yet the walls only grow stronger
I am trapped
The prison is perfect
And I built it myself.'
I connect most with this part because of my move from Iceland and then the torment of bullying thereafter in my new American school. It is weird that the dialogue you have completely mimics what I've said to myself in the past. I love this poem overall and I can't really find anything wrong with anything in it. I hope to reader more of your works soon and keep on writing my friend keep on writing

I was worried I hadn't conveyed the feelings I wanted correctly, so it's good to hear that is was able to connect with someone. Thank you so much for the feedback!
Oh my goodness! This poem is amazing! The metaphors are so realistic and relatable. It really hits the emotion of the audience, brilliant!
My favorite lines are
