In Adventures of Poppy and others

Chapter Four

Jessica looked for plastic purple wings in the swarm of people, trying her best to pay attention, because everyone looked the same when they were all close together.

There were three scary attractions in the fair. The Haunted House, which was closer to her, The Splatter show, which was more crowded than the others, and finally, the Bone Food stand, which was a food stand made to be frightening.

Her legs shook from the running, but if Poppy wanted to see the scary stuff, then The Haunted House was the first place to go.

Good thing it was right across from her.

Chapter Five

“Beware, the curious and the brave! The secrets of Haunted House may just drive you insane!”

There was a ringmaster at the entrance, waving his long, black stick in the air. His red tailcoat shimmered in the afternoon sunlight, the white greasepaint made him look like a ghost.

Jessica easily made it to the front, for there was no line trailing in. She started to run inside-

“The children are getting stronger, aren’t they?”

She froze. The ringmaster’s hand was gripping her shoulder so tightly that she could see the veins under his black leather glove.

“And silent too, it seems. The last child who came in here wasn’t very talkative either. She must have been rather eager to see the monsters.”

He chuckled, still not letting go. Jessica stared at the black curtains in front of her, her shoes digging deep into the dirt as the sound of thunderstorms and screams echoed, like demons trying to escape imprisonment.

“Did she have fairy wings like me?” She asked, hating how shaky her own voice sounded.

His hand finally let go of her, she saw that, but she still felt it.

“It isn’t my business to tell.” The ringmaster said, slowly walking towards the curtains.

He lifted one up, just a little bit. His black hat did not slip off, not once.

“Are you certain you want to meet the creatures that lurk?” He smiled.

Jessica wanted to run, but her legs felt like they were coated in honey as she walked to the front curtains, the ringmaster’s eyes following her as she did.

His eyes looked either completely white or completely black. She couldn’t tell with the paint on his face and the shadows his hat made.

Chapter Six

Everywhere she turned, there was a different monster screeching or telling her deathly things. Her legs would not run, but even if she could, she wouldn’t be able to, because the monsters were everywhere.

Poppy has to be here. She wanted to come in here. I just have to keep looking. I can do this.

The girls were not allowed to sing at home. It hurt their parents’ ears. At least, that was what they said.

But Jessica didn’t want to hear such awful noises from horrifying creatures anymore. The flashing purple-blue strobe lights weren’t helping either.

So, she mumbled out the words to a pop song she liked, trying her best not to think about all the monsters that wanted to get her…

And Poppy.

Good afternoon, creeper 😊 Let’s look at another story in the Poppy verse!

which was a food stand made to be frightening.
I feel like all the other descriptions were decent but this one is very lackluster. I wish she would go into a bit more detail here ☹

Good thing it was right across from her.
I also think that this is a weak way to end the chapter. The phrasing itself is nothing special and it comes after a row of similar sentences. We already know it is straight across from her bc you told us. Two sentences ago. Maybe you could focus on how few ppl she needs to squeeze past to show the same meaning without being repetitive?

that she could see the veins under his black leather glove.
Ahhhh that is a really good description! I recoiled when I read that, well done!!

Well done with the ringmaster, I like his dialogue too!
That said dialogue formatting is still not working.

Hi Creeper!

There were a few nice, short chapters. Not much happens, but Jessica is looking for Poppy, and there is a terrifying wing master who seems to know what happened to here in a cryptic way. It's a really creepy and suspenseful scene. I do think the whole thing could really be one chapter instead of three very short ones, but that's a nitpick!

The Haunted House, which was closer to her, The Splatter show, which was more crowded than the others, and finally, the Bone Food stand, which was a food stand made to be frightening.

I would love more description as to what these attractions looked like that made them spooky!

There was a ringmaster at the entrance, waving his long, black stick in the air. His red tailcoat shimmered in the afternoon sunlight, the white greasepaint made him look like a ghost.

this is such awesome imagery, so spooky and I can really picture it!

She couldn’t tell with the paint on his face and the shadows his hat made.

Same with this, I love the idea of the shadow from his hat obscuring his face. Such a small details but paints a big picture.

“It isn’t my business to tell.” The ringmaster said, slowly walking towards the curtains.

Should be a comma after tell, and a lowercase t

So, she mumbled out the words to a pop song she liked, trying her best not to think about all the monsters that wanted to get her…

I think this is a really nice bit of characterisation for Jessica!

Thx, I’m glad you liked it!

He began to wonder why he had felt uneasy at all. It was like a man wondering in broad daylight why a dream had appeared so terrible to him at night.
