It's not too early to make a NaPo thread, is it?

2019: a magician's tale

Edit: As of December 22nd, 2020, all of the poems in this thread have been edited out. They all appear in a poetry book I'm self-publishing, so I thought it would be best to take them down from the site. Thank you to everyone who read the poems as they came out, and I hope you enjoy any future poems I write for future NaPo challenges!

Edit [2]: I won't edit every single post in this thread with this link, but the poetry book the poems from 2020's NaPo were published in can be found here!

i love this one so much!
this part:
i want to stand
in the rain like
i did on my
thirteenth birthday -
balanced carefully
on the top of the
staircase leading to
our back door.

absolute nostalgia! i remember standing in our balcony, just between shelter and exposure, and feeling a gentle spray over me - and oh god the smell. this poem is so, so lovely - i 'll be keeping up with your thread!
I was eleven years old
and I'd lost my mother,
and my soul.
And the crucible
gave me you.

Thanks, @hiraeth! I wanted to have as much imagery as I could in the poem, but I wasn't sure if that would be too specific to me - I'm glad you can relate to it.

Hm, it's hard to choose one, but I guess you could say the first one "march showers and april flowers" is my favorite so far! Especially this bit-
a blanket of dull gray
hangs heavy in the sky.
i can’t remember
the last time it parted
to show the sun.

I'll be keeping track of your wonderful poems! :3

You're doing great so far! I can't wait to read the rest of your poems :)

My favorite part had to be the last stanza where you wrote
i want the rain to
wet my hair,
soak my
old, faded t-shirt,
tickle my skin,
and make me feel
truly alive.

There was a thunderstorm here today where I live, and I can relate to this feeling that your poem describes.

Keep up the great work!

i never wanted
my towers to fall.

but now
i have to dismantle
the towers
i so excitedly built
and i’m scared
that they’ll go crashing
down to the ground.

I feel this stanzas, goodness. There are things we're all scared of losing. Things that are just so valuable for us. But then there would be times, when we ourselves have to detach ourselves from it.

Your poems are raw with emotions wow. Keep writing! I'm looking forward to it.

@Liberty, I'm glad you liked that part! That's actually one of my favorite parts of that poem, too.

@mckaylaam, I was actually watching the rain fall outside when trying to come up with something to write about - I guess we were both dealing with rainy days! :P

@Katteex, that's definitely something I need to work on, too. :)

I see you wrote another quarantine-inspired poem. It's really a tough time for all of us :( But what was striking was the government shade!!

Your last poem is definitely super relevant today for a lot of people. I'm currently stuck at my apartment in my college town and last night I'm pretty sure I heard people partying across the street, which if that was the case, that is really upsetting because they're putting so many people at risk, whether they know it or not. Anyway, it was a very well-written poem, great job!
