4. El Mundo en un Vaso

Image

Cuando era joven pensaba que
la vida era un zumo
Yo, el color y el mundo el agua
Pero no pasó mucho tiempo hasta que
Me di cuenta
que el mundo era el zumo y yo
el vaso que lo mantenía unido

The World in a Glass

When I was young, I thought that
life was like juice
Me, the colour and the world, the water
But it wasn't long before
I realised
that the world was the juice and I
the vessel that held it together

Hey, Rose! I really adore the last line of El Mundo en un Vaso about holding the world together. It was such a clever twist ^^

5. I held the Sun

Image

I held the sun as if it
Could disappear
From the piece of blue paper
It seemed glued to

Admired its shining
Semblance of
A trophy, a keepsake, precious
As gold, dipped in a chalice

Though I wished he would’ve taken me
With him, as he took away
His cloak of a torch
And left sparkles behind
“It is always sad when someone leaves home, unless they are simply going around the corner and will return in a few minutes with ice cream sandwiches.”

6. A Crying Poet

Image

Though I flicker through the pages
Of poets and their letters
Pictures painted by their words, through
Tales that remain untold
I find myself waiting, lingering
Through the pages of empty spaces
For my fingers to stir into being and
Weave poetry living with creation
Of words that may never
Come to life.
“It is always sad when someone leaves home, unless they are simply going around the corner and will return in a few minutes with ice cream sandwiches.”

I feel like this poem has so many complex emotions behind it, I don't know where to begin, but it's quickly becoming one of my new favorites in this NaPo season!! This...

Tales that remain untold

I think this captures the very definition of poetry in a lot of ways, and it's just such a lovely saying ~ Overall, nicely done! :D

7. Twig

There between the pieces of brown and hazel
Lay the broken twig of the oak tree
Shining in the yellow light but still and lonely
Like the forks on the dinner table

8. It's raining 6 and 7's

Image

I sometimes wonder whether
Grading system could count too for
Other parts of the universe like
This sweet fine weather

Because I’d wish a 10 for cold atmosphere with tea
Mint scent, bright light, cosy spots
And spring dresses with falling leaves

Love and poetry I’ll give to a 9
For a beach day, cool waters
Pretty smiles and some shine

I’ll tolerate an 8 so
Little raindrops and sun rays will be known
As a perfect rainbow

But my heart would not be able to cope
Were I to grade lower than an 8’s hope

For if you would see me now as a
Molten sundae under the heavens
You’d say it’s raining 6 and 7’s
“It is always sad when someone leaves home, unless they are simply going around the corner and will return in a few minutes with ice cream sandwiches.”

9. Rather Than

You’ll find a man rather
As the judge behind the safe place
Than in a stifling box as
Sentenced to his own shame

Rather with his white skull beneath
An elephant’s mercy, a gun to his
Side, than a list of hidden deeds

Rather with a bomb and lighter, than
A piece of truth that can
Shatter a soul to rage

More with a mask of flesh and facade,
Pity worn, watching secrets abroad
Remain untold, than
With a face of originality flaws

Even content with costs to
Feast on a liver, than standing in a fog
Without shelter and an umbrella

Teeth clenched and mouth stitched tight
Than to leave unfinished matters
Naked above the ground

For a man to confess his sins is
As excruciating as slowly suffocating
When there is no remedy or respite in sight
“It is always sad when someone leaves home, unless they are simply going around the corner and will return in a few minutes with ice cream sandwiches.”
- Lemony Snicket

10. Dreamer

Image

I would have wished for stars
If I hadn’t known about the universe
I would have wished for infinitive if I hadn’t known
It equals the same.
I can’t blame the sky for being so far away,
still I wish I knew
the secrets that it kept.
I’ll swim to the bottom of the endless
Sea, to find things beyond my dreams.
But a human is only capable of so many things
That I wished I had known that I’m of a species
Where just the power of dreaming was enough
To see the whole world.
“It is always sad when someone leaves home, unless they are simply going around the corner and will return in a few minutes with ice cream sandwiches.”

11. Shooting Stars

Image

I am convinced the world stands still at night
When the stars count those who weep on
The bathroom tiles
Their thoughts as whispers, like secret parts of
Desire, their heartbeats vague piano notes in outer space
But their sorrows shooting sharp, meteorites in the sky, carving deep into the souls
Of planets, bursting through their sacred atmosphere
And the stars will be watching, and counting how many more of them
Need to fall tonight.
“It is always sad when someone leaves home, unless they are simply going around the corner and will return in a few minutes with ice cream sandwiches.”
