The day's winding to an end, with some ups and downs to say the least. Luckily, I got through the schoolday with only a few emotional scrapes and scratches. Another high point of the day was actually making a friend. As yes, she is real. Unfortunately, that was after finding the body.

I was just walking in the woods, minding my own bisness, when I saw Sarafine and Tatsel chowing down on another student. Now, I wasn't going to step in and try to take down two vampires by myself, that would just be stupid. So instead, I hid behind a tree, and quietly slinked away, but not before I saw Izzy peering from a tree across from me. Didn't look like she saw me though.

On my way back, I bumped into Trinity from first period. I wanted to get as far away from the woods as I could, and quick. When she said 'hi' however, I seriously thought about telling her about what I saw. But Trinity seemed to actually be nice to me. And she seemed like a girl I would be friends with. Like one of my friends at my old school. So I didn't want to start our could-be friendship with a dose of fear and adrenalin. So, instead, we just talked about normal school stuff, as if vampires didn't even exist. God, how great it would be if they weren't real. Stephenie Meyer didn't know what the hell she was talking about.

Anyway, it was a great conversation. We found out that we both liked drama club, and so we promised to talk tomorrow at the auditions. After a while, I just couldn't stay longer, not that close to the woods. So I told Trinity that I had study hall, and then ran over towards the admin. building. Halfway there, I chickened out and went to my dorm instead. I figured that Izzy would say something.

My head felt hot--not from being upside down, but from being angry. I was so angry--angry at Chase for laughing, angry at Wenchester for pulling me down, angry at myself for crying. I turned, a snarl escaping my lips, and punched the wall with my best left hook. My fist left a dent, but then a sharp ache spread up my arm, stopping at my elbow. "Damn it!" I growled. That was the arm Wenchester had tugged on. It wasn't the punch that hurt, my knuckles were fine; something must have torn when she pulled me down.

I swallowed my tears and turned back to Wenchester. "You didn't even ask what that was for!" I snarled. "Suicides and treadmill workouts are for sports! I don't play sports! I fly, okay? And if I even take a week off, I can black out from negative G forces! That's what happens when you fly upside down! You think that was bad? I can do that for ten minutes! I hang upside down off chairs while I watch TV! How dumb do you think I am?! If I played sports, I would've been on the treadmill!" I paused, to take a breath. "And if you don't want to work out with me, you should just say so!"

I stormed out of the gym, giving Chase's backpack a hard kick on the way. My left elbow still hurt. I cradled it with my other arm, muttering a string of cuss words. I turned abruptly, nearly running over a freshman kid, and walked into the nurse's office. The nurse opened her mouth to ask me something, but I just glared at her, grabbed an Ace bandage, and walked out.

When I was back in my room, I began wrapping my elbow, no less angry than I'd been in the gym. I supposed, though, I had been a bit optimistic. Chase, after all, was hard to stomach on good days. But Wenchester--what was her deal? Did she think she was everyone's mom, or something? I got enough of my parents at home; I didn't need a parent here, too.

After I finished bandaging my elbow, I walked out into the hall, looking for something else to take my anger out on. But my anger disappeared when I saw the huge crowd outside the nurse's office. I ran over and tried to look inside, but there were too many people in the way. "Hey, what happened?" I asked someone--Ian, I think.

"Heike got bitten by a vampire," Ian answered.

There was noise coming from the hall so I peaked my head out to see what was going on. There was a crowd of students and teachers outside causing a commotion. I walked over to the nearest student which happened to be Gray.
"What's going on?" I asked. I was afraid that I already new the answer to that question. Gray looked at me with fearful eyes.

"Didn't you hear a student was attacked by a vampire." I gasped. Should I speak up amd tell them about what I saw? It would be the rigjt thing to vdo byt whay of they found out it was me who told and came after me next.

"Did anyone see who attacked the student?" A teacher asked. I wanted to speak up I truely did but concern for my own life stopped me. What was I going to do?

A bunch of people gathered around in random places, teachers were frantic.

A student! She was attacked by a vampire! What happened? Who did this?

I was starting to think that maybe having vampires in the school wasn't as fun as I had previously thought. I hoped I wouldn't be bitten, maybe they liked me and that's why I wasn't bitten.

And that's why it pays to be social, I love being liked :3

Izzy rushes toward me, she didn't know about the student getting attacked. She had a face of horror, like she was hiding something. I opened my mouth to say something, and then thought better of it.

"This totally bites," I said, unaware of the pun. I laugh.

Heike

I stared at the bag of blood that was slowly creeping into my veins.
Does that look yummy?
I honestly didn't know. I was alone (This was starting to become a theme). Once the nurse had let it slip that I might be turning into a bloodsucking creature of the night I started throwing things and saying naughty stuff in sign language. She stayed away from the room, only coming in now and then to make sure my heart was still beating. I considered unhooking the monitor but decided against it. I didn't feel like dealing with her.
I fingered the small bandage covering my fang holes. Nurse lady wouldn't let me wear a choker and my scar is all the more prominant because of the bandage next to it. I was a little glad they hadn't let me have visitors thus far. It did make me a bit anxious, because I wasn't sure if it was for my benefit or for that of the general public.
I grabbed my white board from the side table. I might as well get my thoughts sorted. If I could find out who was a vampire, I could find out who bit me. After that, I wasn't so sure. It would be great if someone could tell me whether or not I was going to turn into a fracking vampire.
I made a list:
Vampires:
Require SPF 666
Hate italian food
Staked through the heart!
Nothing Holy
They just won't die
No running water
Reflections and Photo's don't work

Long list.
I tried to narrow it down. I was attacked during the day, in a shaded area, but during the day. Maybe there was an SPF 666.
I had no clue if any one had a problem with garlic, so I might as well leave that one on there.
I ran out of stakes, holy water, and crosses last month.

I highly doubted I'd get anyone to show me a birth certificate. Even if they did, it could be forged.
No rivers in the area.
So far, no one has brought up an issue about the yearbooks so photos and mirrors were fine.
Now I had:

Vampires:
Hate italian food
Staked through the heart!
Nothing Holy
They just won't die
No running water

So I knew pretty much nothing. Great. I threw my white board at the door.
A moment later the nurse walked in nearly tripping over the board. She looked at it but left it where it was.
"Your friend Lillian brought you something," she said, hesitantly. She handed me a small box then left. I opened it.
Fangs. Inside were a pair of glow in the dark fangs, the kind you get at Chuck E. Cheese, with a little red paint dabbed on them.
My entire body exploded with silent laughter. I had to remember to thank Ian later for the perfectly timed comic relief.

I had it with Sarafine's shannigens. She broke the biggest rule that even I would never break in my eternal lifetime - feed off a mortal. I wouldn't feed off a mortal except once a month and when the mortal was sick. I've prevented a lot of illnesses that way and Sarafine had no right to break the ultimate rule that I would never break. Once I was sure she was gone, I returned to my room where Chase was.
Although he was mortal, he and I were more at the best of terms. Several times he asked me about my family, but it was always the same answer. I had nary a recollection of my family, so I was drawing blanks. Even though Chase was oblivious of my existance as a vampire, I often wished I told him the truth and asked him to keep it a secret. However, despite my reputation as the school bad boy, I had to keep my existance as a vampire a secret. I sat down on my bed like I was meditating.

Sarafine
"I'll be right back Tatsel just wait for me here k?" I nod to him smirking and stroking the side of his face then turn and head down the hall from my room. It was very late and the nurse had gone to sleep Heike was also sound asleep in her room at the infermary. A shadow passes over her waking Heike from her sleep, she looks around then gasps as Sarafine stepped out and closer to her. "Hello my lovely fledgling how you feeling, ok?" she asks snickering at her then appears right in her face"Now your not going to sign a word to anyone else or you die, got it?" she stares at Sarafine in horror then slowly shakes her head yes then lays back down as Sarafine vanishes into the shadows leaving a scar over Heike for a while.

Honestly, I thought vampires were smarter than that. Especially Sarafine. If you ask my opinion, i'd say she gives them all a bad name. If She was going to feed she should've fed off campus. I'd gone for a walk to clear my head and get familiar with the terrain when I heard a struggle and saw Sarafine trolling away. I could scent blood in the air and the acrid smell had my nose on fire. Before I could do anything someone had already come running. I spotted at least 2 other students there. Izzy and Raven I believe, but it was too dark to tell. And on the way to visit Heike after hours I heard Sarafine threaten to kill her if she talked, but high tailed it out of there before she noticed me. She's not nearly as smart as I thought she was. Sloppy even. The only question was what was going to be done about it?

I felt bad for the tree I was climbing, the force of my anger making my nails dig much deeper into the bark than normal. After I had dropped off Heike’s gift, Sarafine glided past me in the halls without even acknowledging me. As if my blood hadn’t already been boiling. I had sprinted over to the boy’s dormitory, climbing up trees and glancing into various windows before finding who I had been looking for. Tatsel sat there on his bed as if in a trance, I gave a good bang on the glass startling him and his roommate.

I think he was some sort of popular football player or whatever. The boy walked over and opened the window. He barely got a peep out before I swung myself into their room.

I pointed at Tatsel accusingly “You. I think we need to have a conversation. Now.” I glanced over at his roommate, Chase I think is his name. “And you, you need to humor me and get out. Please.” I added off handedly. I didn’t even check to see if he was gone before I blew up.

“I can NOT believe you Vampires! I mean, far be it from me to deny someone the right to food, but one of you got caught feeding a year ago and then you do it again in the open? You don’t even seem to WANT to hide yourselves! You always travel in a pack with most of you dressed like hot topic took a huge dump in your closets! And on top of that, you don’t even have the courtesy or the respect to feed of campus.” Tatsel opens his mouth to speak, but I don’t let him.

“I don’t know if it’s been mentioned before, but it’s more than obvious you and that Anna girl are the bosses whether official or un.” I straighten myself.
“I have nothing against you or vampire on a whole, but you need to keep your buddies in line and teach them that power and immortality does not mean freedom from morals or consequences .”

“Vampires like Sarafine are the reason you’ve had to hide your existence for this long! On top of that, she has the nerve to just prance into the hospital and threaten Heike’s life even though she’s already ended it! And there is no way I’m the only one who knows what all of you are. Eventually people will get angry enough to quite being scared they’ll speak up, and all of you will end up dead.”

I fall silent and walk back to the window. “That sophomore girl is strike one, Heike is strike two, and I can’t guarantee you’ll even be allowed to get to strike three.”

I woke to the blaring of my alarm and I opened my eyes to the light pouring in through my window. Across the room the bed was unused, I was originally supposed to have a roommate but when the Vampire incident happened he transferred out and they hadn’t put anyone else with me.

I got up and dressed in a gray t-shirt and light blue jeans before heading off to class. When I got to class there were only a few already settled in their seats, despite there only being a few minutes left until class started. I snagged a seat in the back by the window, I always tried to get a seat there, I find that it’s more interesting to stare out a window than at a wall and fewer people tend to notice me. When class did start the teacher almost immediately got in a fight with the teacher followed by a girl slamming into the window, a seemingly endless stream of late students and people introducing themselves in what seemed to be the cockiest manner that they could, with a few exceptions including a girl that had a minor meltdown. Throughout this I kept my eyes wandering about the students, taking mental notes on all the students from the way they acted to what the said and wore. I wanted to know as much about these people so that I would be able to identify the people I thought I could trust (Vampires and human alike) as well as the Vampires. I had studied them so I knew that when they got hungry they started to get irritable and moody, while it wasn’t a foolproof detection method it might save me from becoming a human juice box, while I wasn’t scared of them I didn’t want to become a meal either.

Class ended before the teacher had called on me and I went on the rest of my day with relatively no new events. When evening came someone found the mute girl Heike in the forest unconscious after being bitten by a Vampire. I was surprised that they would act this soon and so recklessly, I thought I would have had at least a couple of weeks to get to know people and build theories about who might be a Vampire. I sighed to myself, this could mean that things were either going to be a lot harder or easier than I had originally thought.

I ran as fast as I could (which is very very fast) to the nurse office. I had to see if it was true. I had to see for myself. There was no way Sarafind could be that stupid. But when I arrived, my worst fear was realized. There lay a young girl with two insisions on her neck. I ran to her side and she stirred in her sleep. I bent down close to smell her neck. No way Sarafind is that stupid. How could she forget to remove the venom?! Just what I need, a fleeding to deal with. Suddenly, Heike woke with a start.
"Relax sweety, your safe."

Hekie scribbled on a white board, "Sarafind said I doe if I talk."

I looked down at her and sighed, "Well, right now you will die anyway."

She scribbled, "What!?"

"That moron forgot to suck the venom from you when she finished. Right now, it is inside you and if something isn't done, you will die in about 24 hours."

She wrote desperately "What can we do?"

"Well, there are three options: one, you die from the venom. Two, I could try to suck out the venom but then you would die from blood loss. Or three, you drink my blood and become a vampire."

Heike looked at me with tears in her eyes and wrote, "so die or become one of you?"

"I am so sorry but that's it."

Heike looked down in thought and with a solemn, and steady hand wrote, "okay, just do it quickly."

I cut my wrist and let some of my blood flow into her mouth. She drank and drank until she passed out. I wrapped my wrist up and looked at the poor girl. Sarafind will pay for taking this girls life from her. Besides, the young vampire will need a mentor to teach her the ropes. I smiled. I know what sucker was getting that job.

Phew. Some first day if I do say so myself. I'd just gotten in from outside when I ran into Sarafine.

"Watch where you're going" she glared coldly.

"Yea? Well,i'm not sorry" I shrugged and kept moving.

I guess she didn't like that response. She grabbed me by the and turned me aroung to face her. I hate it when people touch me. instinct kicked in, but I mellowed it out by grabbing her hand and-

"Ah!" Sarafine dropped to one knee. "Let go!"

I looked around. There was nobody in sight. I looked down at Sarafine.

"I want you to listen and listen good" I moved closer. "I know what you are and I know exactly what you did. What do you have to say for yourself?"

In answer she bared her fangs and hissed. I applied more pressure and thought she would launch an attack, but at least she was smarter than that.

"I have nothing against vampires," I told her frankly. "but one of the reasons they keep it a secret is because of people like you who don't know when to stop."

She hissed again and tried to yank away. She was only hurting herself.

"So here's what I want you to know." I let go of her hand, picked her up by her throat, and pushed her against the wall. "I'm stronger than most humans, and i'm faster than most humans, but Keep in mind that I am human."

She kicked and flailed. She bucked like a steamin mad Bronc, but she wasn't getting out of my grip.

"I've got multiple black belts in Martial Arts and extensive background in weaponry." I tightened my grip on her throat until she stopped fighting.

Man was i geting excited!! My heart was bumping in my chest and my eyes were probably dialated. My breathing was going a little wild too. So much exhilaration in such little time. Her eyes were like molten magma and she was giving me the death stare.

"You're were so sloppy you didn't even realize there were two other people besides me who saw you?" I laughed. "If you're gonna feed then be smart about it. I don't need a weapon to take you out. If I wanted to I could snap your neck like a twig right now."

Her eyes bulged wide.

"You better get yourself under control because i'm guessing the other vampires around school know it was you, so i'm actually the least of your worries."I flexed my fingers.

"If you attack anybody else on campus, the vampires don't deal with you, and I find out, I'll drop you two times faster than you dropped Heike, got it ?" I didn't wait for a reply.

Instead I dropped to the floor and walked off to see my new roommate. Some first day indeed.

My entire body was on fire, burning from the inside out. I got up from my bed and stumbled to the large window. I yanked the curtains shut and the fire on my skin gradually faded away.
When I looked around everything was sharper and clearer. Like my entire life I had been looking through glasses with dirty lenses and they've finally been cleaned. I wanted to go everywhere and do everything just because I knew I could. I was on the ultimate sugar high. I looked around the room but my nurse was nowhere in sight. Then I spotted bottle of thick white sludge on my side table and I smiled. SPF 666.
Slathering it on my skin, I bolted from the infirmary, feeling too giddy and energetic from my 'blood high' to be concerned about my transformation.
This is amazing!
If only I'd known how bad the crash would be.

After a while being with Chase, I went to the halls and found someone zipping around. I caught her in a quick grip. "Hello. Have you sprout milk out of your coconut?"
The fledgling looked at me, confused. "What?"
I grabbed her shoulders. "There's a reason why we're living in secrecy. Lunatics like you can't keep themselves under control. If you want to live, for the gods' sake control yourself. It's either control yourself or get us all killed. Which one would you pick?"
