You Loved Me First

In Poetry

Every day, I slip out
of the shower,
walk
to the mirror
and look
at myself.
Every day, it's
a new
insult.
Too fat,
not attractive,
no cleavage.
Every day, I go
to school,
walk the halls
and feel
insecure.
I hide my face
behind a sea of
papers, binders and
homework.
My long, brunette
hair
covers my sea-green
eyes,
saving me from
awkward conversations.
I ignore the
stares from people
who are better than
me.
I block out all of the
names
that are thrown at
me.
But it still
hurts.
Every day, I go home
in tears,
wondering why I'm even
alive.
But then I'm
reminded.
I'm reminded that it doesn't
matter.
I wasn't meant to please
them.
I was meant to please
Him.
He made me this
way.
Maybe I am ugly to
them,
but I am beautiful
to Him.
He knows me
perfectly.
He understands
me perfectly,
even when
others don't.
He's seen me
cry,
and he cried
with me.
He's seen
me happy,
and he rejoiced
with me.
He's seen me
lonely,
and he came
to me,
showing me
he was
there
even when
others weren't.
He was the one that
loved me first.
And I have decided
to love
Him back.

Hello there!!

I absolutely love this poem! I completely understand the emotions that are presented in it and love the moral of the story that you tell. I have absolutely no idea where I'd be without Jesus and, frankly, I'd rather not imagine it. I always love to read things like this. They remind me that there are other people out there going through the same things that I deal with on a daily basis.

I wasn't meant to please
them.
I was meant to please
Him.

This is probably my favorite part of the entire poem. It's simple but it serves its purpose quite well and clearly shows what you're trying to say in a beautiful way. I wish that I would remember what you're saying here more often.

Totally awesome work! Always keep writing!!!

I thought this was a very touching and moving poem. It really portrays how insecure people are and not just girls. I am not very religious, but this poem made me feel as though I could be. It was touced me and made me feel loved, and gave me a sence of hope that no matter how insecure you are someone thinks and loves you. It was great. Good job. 5 owls out of 5.

What is a poet? An unhappy person who hides deep anguish in his heart, but whose lips are so formed that when the sigh and cry pass through them, it sounds like lovely music.
