Beyond a Closet Door

Yes I am a boy and yes this is a touchy topic but I thought I'd bring it up anyways because I feel like it isn't adressed enough. Some people just don't know what to do and others are afraid. I'm accepting but please judge my poem instead of the topic of the poem. Happy reading


I want to know,
what it's like outside
my protective shell of lies.

I want to know,
what it's like to be
completely free and
graced with equality.

What a feeling it'd be
to not have to hide,
and not have to lie
to family and friends,
just to shield myself
again and again.

I want to know,
what it's like to be
normal in society.
To not be some freak
that goes home and weeps
behind locked closet doors.

I don't want
to have to fight
for what I know is right.
To convince some majority,
to give me my individuality.

What a thought,
what a childesh dream.
To love whomever you please,
and not be considered a disease.

I want to know,
what it's like
to be me.
