It hurts, but it has to happen

*This story is underneath my folder titled “Perdita and Thorne…”. Gacha Club character designs are under my forum titled “My character designs<33[2]”. Enjoy as much you can, because where this is a romance story, it will also get a little sad and dark. Please read with caution.*

Perdita sat on a slab of rock in the garden, the rough edges feeling like they were slicing the back of her legs, but it wouldn’t hurt as much as the stake would.

There’s so many beautiful things in the world that I would like to see, but to see the light leave their eyes…while I drain their blood…it’s not fair…

As Perdita shaped the stake to be a pointed weapon, thoughts of looking into Thorne’s red eyes and feeling his teeth sink into her neck swam throughout her mind. She was happy beyond belief that Thorne had reunited with her and that he had made her a vampire, like him, so that she may live forever with him, but sucking the blood out of innocent humans never really sat well with her. Thorne didn’t seem to feel good about it either, because he didn’t smile or have a light in his eyes after they both drained a life or two, but he wasn’t upset about it either. He just sort of…accepted it.

She supposed that it would be easier for him to accept it because he had many, many centuries to live with it, but wouldn’t he be the least bit perturbed? Wouldn’t he think that them being vampires was unfair?

Perdita wondered what Thorne thought whenever he saw her sitting on the rock in his garden, as he walked in and out of his mansion. Did he put two and two together? No, he couldn’t have, or else he would have talked to her about it earlier. Unless he didn’t want to talk her about it and had thought their love for one another had withered away.

That couldn’t be further from the truth. Perdita loved Thorne so dearly that she couldn’t imagine going anywhere without him, that ever since she had found him again, she wanted to stay by his side forevermore.

That was why she was digging a deep hole and making a stake, so that one night, she may take Thorne out to the garden and tell him her feelings about being a vampire, then impale herself with the stake and fall to the hole. One end of the stake would be sticking out of her chest, so hopefully, Thorne would jump right into the hole, into her embrace, his chest also impaled by the stake and-

And what if he doesn’t want to die? What if he doesn’t want to join you in the afterlife? What if you’re forcing him into making a difficult decision? Why are you dragging him into YOUR problems?!

But of course he would want to join her. They both had no else left but each other. All of their family members were dead, nobody knew who they were but each other, and she couldn’t just die and leave him in the human world to suffer. If his heart felt hollow with many years of being a vampire, then what would happen to it once she died? They had been driven apart, but they had been brought together.

Perdita had to fashion the stake to be perfectly pointed, good enough to kill them both, but she wasn’t going to forget Thorne. She wasn’t going to leave him behind.

Besides, they weren’t really alive at all. They were just ghosts with flesh on their bones, wandering the world and staining the grass with the spilled blood of dreaming and fearing humans. It wouldn’t make a difference if they hunted animals instead of humans, for animals had souls behind those eyes, just like humans, and what kind of creatures would Perdita and Thorne be to pull the life out of them?

They didn’t have any souls. They weren’t alive. They had their time to live and shine, they were supposed to die and join their lost generation that had already been laid to rest.

Perdita wiped her eyes of tears with one hand, resting the stake and knife on top of her skirt. She’d continue carving later, she just had to not cry so loudly, or else Thorne would hear her and get worried.

She couldn’t bear to speak to him or look at him. Not yet. Not at the moment.

Hi! This is so beautifully romantic and sad at the same time. I love the duality of emotions within this story. I'm an absolute sucker for vampire stories, and so I absolutely love this. I feel so bad for Perdita, because while she has this love and happiness, she also has to take that from others. The emotions within this are genuinely incredible. I love all the italics that I'm assuming are Perdita's thoughts. They're full of rhetorical questions, and I love that because it shows her emotions about the whole thing, and that she's full of doubt. Overall, this is an excellent story. Keep up your amazing work!

I%u2019m so glad you enjoyed this!

Yes, the italics are her thoughts.

Ah this is before the tragedy that happens when Perdita digs her hole (so deep)?

Oh my, and we’re getting right into the feels. Poor Perdita. It feels like they both got dealt a pretty bad hand in life :/

I also like the sentiment of him just “accepting” their fate. And that he possibly knows what she’s planning but avoiding the topic. Oh I could so understand that. Because to him it would feel as if her love for him wasn’t strong enough, when we already know she loves him so much that she just hopes he joins her, not to be left alone in this world…

“What if you’re forcing him into making a difficult decision? Why are you dragging him into YOUR problems?!” Can so understand that inner voice but at the same time… Perdita sees no alternative right. I don’t know if she tried to subside on other blood, I also don’t know what kinda setting this is, modern or medieval, so… Has she tried donor blood? Has she tried animals? Do they have to drain the entire human or can they just … drink a little? Maybe that would help?
I’m always trying to fix things for immortal characters ^^°

They live in the present, but they met in the 1800s time period. This story takes place in our time.
