IU finally finished the play/book and I actually liked it. It was definitly better than The Awakening
Well, I suppose he wasn't so much a jerk as a chauvanistic pig, but since chauvanistic pigs were so common in those days, he was pretty much normal.

As im starting this i can see that. its not apparent early on that her husband is a jerk, maybe hes just the norm for his time
Personally, I think it's pretty amazing. As a feminist piece, it was wayyyyy ahead of its time, written by a man in a male-dominated society.
The coolest part is that said man in said male-dominated society saw Nora as a character that needed to develop, not as a woman who should adhere to societal norms.
Besides, her husband was a jerk. And she left him. That was cool.
Since this is for school I can't choose the book I read but I might go check that out anyway
Ibsen is a good writer, but I didn't like A Doll's House at all. I think maybe it would have been better if I could have seen it played out...It just didn't do much for me.
I recommend The Master Builder instead. I REALLY REALLY liked that one.

Well once I start the book... ahah, I just can't seem to get past the first page...
I enjoyed it a bit (I read it two years ago, so I'm a bit hazy). The hypocrisy of the husband was a fun read, and I enjoyed the abandoning of the family9sadist that I am). The idea that the wife was sort of without purpose, and yet had exceeded expectations of her was all very interesting.
I saw an adaptation for modernt imes where the conclusion was ramped up: the wife shot the husband at the end. That ending ruined it for me, I prefer the original.
