Why I Hate Painting My Nails

In Shorts

The blue color flows along my nails, creating a shiny coat. I carefully spread the paint with the nimble brush, hoping a big glob won't drop from it and create a spot. My left hand shakes as I paint my right hand. Why couldn't I have been born ambidextrous? For nothing else, wouldn't it be nice to be able to paint my nails with both hands?

I paint one nail at a time, slowly, carefully as though I'm being tested. They have to be perfect. I can't deal with an imperfect coat of nail polish. I hear the music blaring from the laptop in my room. Exactly which song was it? My attention falters for a slight second and I smear polish on the tip of my finger.

'Great, just great.' I think as I stare at the blue spot on my finger. I reach for a tissue and try to wipe it away. To my dismay, the polish simply smears, giving my finger more of a blueish color. That stupid little spot has grown. I sigh and move on. I guess my finger will look a little blue for the next week or so.

My nails are finally done and I wait for them to dry. Curling up with a good book I try hard not to smear the polish on the perfectly white pages. Occasionally I check to see if the polish has dried yet. I get so wrapped up in the book that I almost forget about my nails. Thank goodness they're finally dry. I stand up, put the book away and walk back to my desk. Just as I'm about to sit down and continue to write my novel, I look at my feet. I sigh and find my nail polish again.

My toe nails are purple and sparkly. That definitely does not match the sky blue that's now displayed on my fingers. Looks like I'm going to have to make my toes match.

And that's why I hate painting my nails.

Hey! I enjoyed this story. So relatable because I'm a girl. Quite brave of you to write a story on this. I would have been afraid that not to many people would have been interested in it. I thought the title could've been a bit more creative though. I mean its a bit basic. The poem was still great though, keep writing!

This is so relatable and very funny! I have this problem all the time, and I just kind of gave up too :P

I liked how you were able to take such a small moment in our lives and turn it into a post. It's never something we really think about, but now that you wrote about it, I guess the struggle is more widespread than I thought.

This was very well written and I liked the varied vocabulary!

Keep up the good work!

This ha happened to me SO MANY TIMES! Finally I just gave up on nail polish. Honestly. Who has the time to do school work, chores, some hobbies AND paint their nails? I don't. Come on! There are so many better things to waste my time on.
Am I annoying you? Sorry I just don't have anyone to talk to about these things.
Forgive me. And please mark this thing as a review if its too short to be one. I really DESPERATELY need those points. Guess what you don't need to.
I like this piece and can totally relate to it. i hope you keep coming up with things like this.

Hey there!
I really liked this, it was a nice, lighthearted, easy read. But, maybe I'm just dumb, but I didn't get why you/she hated painting her/your nails. Cause if she did, why would she paint them in the first place? It's not like it would be the end of the world if she didn't, right?
If she really does hate them, then maybe show us why she's painting them. Is she tired of her friends/family telling her to be a little more girly? Did her mom tell her to do them to match the outfit she's going to wear later?

*shrugs* That's what I thought. Otherwise, nice job :)

Hey There!

I thought this was a pretty awesome story! I laughed at the ending. "And that's why I hate painting my nails." Amazing ending. Couldn't be better! I love this piece of work and this deserves first place in The Awesome Writings Contest.

GREAT JOB AND KEEP WRITING!!!

That was pretty enjoyable to read and never felt bored while reading every sentence of your story. I don't think you have any grammar or punctuation mistakes. It was so beautifully written, with clear & simple expressions. I say, this story is just perfect!!

ally- yes, I was painting my nails earlier today. I was thinking about how much I hated painting them (although it looks so nice when I'm done) so I came up with this.

Let's paint a picture of you painting your nails... a picture tells a thousand words so a picture within a picture tells two thousand :P

I really enjoyed your piece of writing. It was interesting to read and the ending was funny and great! You really knew how to express your emotions on paper which is what made this story so great, that and a lot of other things. I'm wondering are you actually painting your nails currently or were you just inspired to write something about painting nails?

If you can't get out of your comfort zone, you'll never find what you're looking for. Don't make things quick and easy to feel better short term. Make a change and then you'll feel better longer term.
