MOO YOU'RE ALIVE

As always, it's a pleasure to read your poetry.

I have gleaned that this poem is about a dog, or an animal that the narrator had very close ties to. It's beautiful and thoughtful, and I am having difficulty finding fault with it, so I'll give you my thoughts on it.

The first line is a nice indicator of setting, in spring, as the narrator longs that the animal did make it to summer, and almost made it. There is also a double meaning here, perhaps that the animal was not very old when she passed, not making it to the very good times, or perhaps dying when things were about to get better. Later we find that indeed there is a literal spring, though there is still room for figurative spring.

I love your word choice in the second line specifically. Refolded reminds us that we came from nothing, or the earth, whichever you choose. Also, making the sun do the firing reminds me of those spring days when the air is still chilly, but you can feel the sun on your arms though the parts of you in shadow are cold.

I had to look up what Viaticum was, but I think it's lovely that you would draw connections between an animal's funeral and a human's last rites. It makes the animal seem that much more important.

Your fourth line caused some confusion at first, as I did not know until this moment that the "she" the narrator is speaking of was not a human, and it didn't make sense visually, but then I was reminded of illuminations. Illuminations, as in the illustrations in The Book of Kells and other religious texts from that era. Their animals always somehow were woven into celtic knots, and this is what image it gave me as soon as I realized the she is not a human.

I am not sure if a linnet looks quite like a dead leaf, but I understand why you chose to liken it to a dead leaf.

I didn't understand the friend's words song at first, but then I realized that it was just a sweet song at the wrong time. Unless you mean something else, then I've missed that completely.

What tail did you cut a piece from? The animal or the linnet? I was confused by this because you used "the" here instead of the established she of the animal being buried.

The last bit of the last line is interesting. It juxtaposes life with death, but even then, includes death. The tail compared to the wheat in the starving world implies an immortality of sorts, but one of sadness and only in memory. Lovely.

I hope that my analysis of this poem helps you in some way! A lovely poem. I read your offer, and I was wondering if you could look over my poem A Change of Power and the Queen because I feel like you could give me some nice insight on it. Keep poeting!

Hello Magpie!

I am indeed alive! I posted another poem a couple of weeks ago as well. I actually have a bit of a backlog now, but I don't wish to flood the poetry forums haha. I'm really glad to see a review from you, I always find them to be very insightful, so thanks for taking the time to read my poem, it's very much appreciated <3

Your analysis was very much spot on...! I was actually quite shocked at how well you managed to read a poem that was a bit sparse on the details! I challenged myself to write a short poem about a large subject... this one was based upon a horse named Honey, who was my own horse's companion, and the same animal that got me into riding. She was the most amazing animal that taught me to put my trust into others and the rewards that it could bring. When I used to take her out riding, I felt fearless. She always did her best to keep me safe, but also had the years and the schooling to correct me when I did something wrong.

She fell ill and had a bad Summer where we struggled to get weight on her. It was only in Autumn that she began to improve and the light came back into her eyes. But very suddenly, she fell in the stable and couldn't get back up again, and was put down. I was too upset to be there for her burial... but I think this made this poem more positive. She died, but my last memories of her were always that bright hope in her eyes again. She was an old girl at 25.

I don't know if not knowing the animal is important or not yet. I could edit the title somewhat and include the word horse. I could also change tail to fetlock (which is a horse term for the hair between the ears) but I'm not sure if I can... we did actually take a cut from her tail. I don't feel like being dishonest about it... isn't that silly!

A linnet is a small brown songbird, in case you didn't know that. They dwell in hedgerows. I'm not sure if that helps you a bit, but you got the image anyway so.. xD

I'll be sure to look at your poem in the coming days! Busy schedule over the weekend with work but I always have Mondays off, so you'll see it by Monday at the latest all being well.

Thank you for your review Mags <3

I loved Honey it really stuck out to me. It was also really grabbed my attention when you said "She died before she made it to summer." I took me a minute to realize that it was a cat dying though you could have described a little bit better. I really, really loved how you said at the end "It would never die." It is true but the tail will decay just like the body if we want to get logical. In other words it was really good.

Hey RosePetal,

It's not actually a cat, haha, but that's not really important, as long as you knew it wasn't a human you got it just fine. As for the thing about the tail... it's metaphoric, as is it's inability to die in this case. Thank you so much for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the poem!

Hello there !

This is a piece of beauty. I am in love with it. I can not help but fall in love with it.

The fashion of description writing makes it even more edgy and fresh.

My favourite bits of your work are,
" we left her re folded in ground "

" we cut a section from the tail and held it as if it were the last stalk of winter wheat "

Thank you for posting this wonderful piece.

Greetings
- Cavalin :)

P.S. I love your username !

I like this alot very Touching feeling type deal. but where did or how i should say is this a piturce that you up loaded on here in different writing because if so im going to do that well maybe i dont. But I love the way you put an discribtion in this. (Excuse my spelling) . but yes I can see the Tape in my head playing just like a movie just flowing. I like that Alot and its Short but i would like to read more of this if you add more on. but its fine. If you are going to put a Period "." in a Stanaz would you Like start another line instead of it being in the middle or towards the end. Because i really didnt see it i read over it. Then i stoped myself and said "Oh a there's a Period "." there. but thats all very Good Detail. So im Done now. BYE

Hi there, thanks for your comment, but I'm not really sure what you meant about the period/full stop thing. Thanks for taking the time to read though!
