The breeze gently blew through her hair, revealing her angelic face. Her gentle blue eyes twinkled in the moonlight, making my heart beat faster and faster the longer I stared into them. The soft rustle of the leaves in the trees put my heart to rest, as I cupped my hand on her cheek. She reached up with her slender hand and put it over mine, feeling the warmth radiating off of my skin.
Carefully, I stepped towards her, letting her see the emotions flowing through my dark eyes. Another sparkle went through her eyes as I slowly inched closer, my heart beat once again kicking faster and faster. Moving gently, I moved my hand to the back of her neck as I inched closer, not wanting this moment to end.
She looked to the side when I got close enough to brush her lips with mine, not wanting things to go this way. A sharp pain of guilt and disappointment filled my hollow heart as I realized what I had done. A look of pain had filled her face, her angelic face which only moments before had been full of happiness and laughter. My heart got heavier with each excruciating second that passed, the silence between us slowly eating away at what little of my heart was left. I turned my head the opposite way in shame, hot tears forming in the corners of my eyes.
Lightly, she turned me towards her. Wrapping her arms around my neck, she hugged me tightly, obviously not wanting things to be as they were. She placed her lips next to my ear and as soft as the wind, she whispered, “I'm sorry.” Wrapping my arms tightly around her, I pulled her even tighter into me. The tears in my eyes were flowing now, my breath coming out in heavily.
She ran her fingers through my hair, pulling my head into her shoulder. I felt my heart slowly start to fade away to the darkness of my thoughts as she broke the embrace. Tears were streaming down her face, two crystalline rivers reflecting the sadness she felt. Another sharp pain rang through my heart as she turned on her heel and walked away, her hair gently blowing in the breeze behind her. Slowly, she disappeared into the tree line, leaving me standing among the Lilies of the night.
I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to hold back another wave of tears that threatened to rush forward. Images of her flashed through my head; her smile as we talked about music under the stars, the feelings that I felt when I heard her soft laughter, the speed my heart beat when I stared into her eyes. My feet started moving, moving as fast they could, trying to bring me closer to her.
A branch slashed at my face, drawing a small scratch. My feet continued to press forward, faster and faster until she came into view. I reached out to her, grabbing her hand and spinning her around to face me.
“I don't care if we can't be together, just please, give me this one night. That's all I ask of you...” I said, my feelings pouring forth. Pain reflected in her eyes as she looked to the ground, realizing that I was still holding her hands. She broke her hands away from mine and shook her head.
“I can't... I'm in love with somebody else, I'm with somebody else.” she said sorrowfully looking into my eyes, as tears flowed like soft rivers down her cheeks, and onto the ground. “Please, don't follow me back. I don't want to regret anything. You're an amazing person, and I'd love to be with you, but my heart belongs to another. Please, please, don't follow me.”
What little was left of my heart shattered as she ran into the forest, leaving behind everything that had to do with me. Tears cascaded from my eyes, splattering onto the hard Earth. I dropped to my knees, my legs no longer having the will to support me, and cradled my head on the ground. The only sound in the forest was the rustling of the leaves, expressing their sorrow under the star filled sky.
I really liked this. It was filled with emotion and tells a great tale of heartbreak. The only thing I could possibly suggest is to possibly add a bit more description about the setting. I see that there's a forest and you describe that well, but where was the couple before the girl took off into the trees?
I hope this helps! : )
