Calypso

A terrible sonnet I wrote. Rip to shreds.

--

My hero, why do you lie in the waves?
What horrid terrors have you faced?
Your hands are bruised, blooded.
Your breath is shallow, food you cannot taste.
Take my hand and I'll get you to a bed,
A quiet place for you to heal and rest,
Don’t cry; I know something that cannot be said.
My hero, they say you are the best.
But do you see the glittering white sand,
The turquoise waves and the blooming flowers?
Long ago I was banished to this land.
Here eternal peace is in your power.
Please don't ever leave; I have been too much alone.
You’re here; your safety is what I condone.

Hello there,

I personally liked your poem a lot, as I love to read/write about mythology myself. I assume that this is referring to Calypso's love for Odysseus, as the mood of this poem does capture the feeling of desperation and love. I believe that the last four lines of this poem should be separated into their own stanza to differentiate them from the rest of the poem. My reasoning for this is to draw the reader's focus to the last few lines of the poem, instead of handing them a wall of text to read.

Overall, I found this poem quite touching and entertaining, and the only comments I have on the poem are nitpicking at best.

Keep on writing, and feel free to PM me with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have.

I think it's not that bad. At some places there is a rhythm that works well, but then that rhythm is broken again. I stumbled upon some of the words because of this when I read it, but I don't know, maybe that's on purpose. I think from the overall structure it is quite good though; every quatrain expresses some kind of idea.

Hello PumpkinCat here with your Review for "Calypso". I really love this it really captures the feeling of Calypso and her island. It uses lots of good words and it is a very good sonnet the only sentence I seemed to fail on was this line: "Your breath is shallow, food you cannot taste". I can't exactly tell what it is but it doesn't seem to fit in. Other then that everything is perfect!
10/10 Good Work! -PC
