A poem in honor of my great grandma's death.

A Better Place

You roamed this land,
You lived this land,
You knew this land.
But overall,
You loved this land.
You cherished every minute you had.
But now you are in a better place.
A place where you can run again,
A place where you can see all of your loved and lost ones.
Your daughter that died at the age of eight.
And your husband who died almost a decade before you.
Eventually, I will be there with you but until then.
Grandma.
I hope you are having the time of your life!

A poem about fresh spring rain.

Damp

Damp.
and fresh.
That's the smell of rain.
My hair is droopy,
and drops roll along my water-coated face.
Down my eyes,
down my nose,
down my chin.
Each time one speeds up I cringe.
"That's it," I say. "That's it."

hi there, NaPo buddy!!! :D I think I've said this before, but I love your thread title-- "Poetree House" is such an awesome pun! XD The photo in your first post is super cool too; that treehouse looks so fun! (haha an unintentional rhyme there ^-^) I also really enjoyed reading your first poem, "A Better Place," and it's so wonderful that you wrote it in honor of your great grandma. And "Damp" was super neat to read too! I liked the slant rhyme with "chin" and "cringe," and I thought the ending was pretty funny! It made me wonder what the narrator would do next-- maybe wipe their face and shake a fist at the sky? Or maybe grumble and get an umbrella? XD Overall these poems are fantastic and I'm excited to read your next ones too!! C:

A poem about forest fires and the destruction they cause.

Forest Fire

Everything has vanished,
turned to ash.
Nothing remains.
Not a single tree,
not a single plant from our garden,
not a single wall from our house.
Smoke fills the air
and everything is grey.
How did this all come from the thing the fuels us?
Why has the sun betrayed me like this?
Why has it taken away so much?

A poem about friendship. Both its struggles and its benefits.

Friendship is a Dandelion

Friendship is like a dandelion.
It is a beautiful sight to behold.
But can be blown away very easily.
You have to shelter it and protect it
try not to get distracted.
And if you can accomplish this,
Your friendship will bloom fantastically.

A poem about the deep fog.

Fog

Fog.
What a misty mystery.
It hides everything around it,
nothing can be seen.
All is an enigma,
What is to know?
It suffocates you,
Closterphobia galore!
Because in the deep fog
you wonder all your life.

An Alphebetical War

Axes are being polished.
Battles are brewing.
Come! and
Derive them we shall.
Even if it takes an eternity we will win.
Freedom will be ours!
Grace shall not be given!
Hand me my sword!
It is time to attack.
Justice will be served.
Kendal. I
Lost you
Many years ago and
Not a moment has passed where I don't think of you.
Onward! We are
Prepared!
Quickly! We must charge before they come
Riding on their
Stallions!
To victory! They
Underestimated their opponents and died in
Vain. They lost. There opponents
Won.
XYLOPHONE! Are
You wondering why I said that? This
Zebra will explain.

Ah well done tackling an abecedarian! I can never get mine to make sense all the way to the end when you get to that tricky letters, but yours really had some nice threads of continuity. :)

I think you did a great job getting emotion into that forest fires poem too - by personifying the fire, in particular "Why has the sun betrayed me like this? / Why has it taken away so much?" Ah <33 !! A lot of anger / sadness in those lines, and it's pretty interesting for a person to blame the fire as if it were a person too.

The continuing thread of nature between them all is nice in connecting the different poems, and I think the theme you've chosen thankfully has a lot of variety / diversity to explore all month! :) Good luck for the rest of your NaPo journey, strong start!
you should know i am a time traveler &
there is no season as achingly temporary as now
but i have promised to return

A poem describing how life is like a story.

Life is a Story

Life is like a story.
There are twists and turns around every page.
Who knows what will happen?
Maybe you could fight a dragon!
Or.
Maybe just a sibling.
You could climb Mount Everest!
Or.
Maybe just your favorite sledding hill.
You could fight in world war two!
Or.
Maybe just a nerf battle with all your friends.
But either way, there will be lots of adventure.
Lots of fun.
And lots of imagination.

Pushing the Limits

Some people stay in the border.
Not me.
I break the limits that are put on me.
I color outside the lines
with my golden marker in hand.
I ride in the leather saddle of wonder
with freedom as my driver.
Nothing can hold me.
Not the deepest cave.
Not the highest cloud.
Not even a cage made of pure diamond.
I still follow the law.
And most of the rules,
But I don't let them define me.
I let them join me,
I let them come along for the ride.
Though the wheel always stays in my grasp.

Very well; I hear; I admit, but I have a voice too, and for good or evil mine is the speech that cannot be silenced.
