Ode to Routines/Habits

E - Everyone

In germination

Wake up, roll out from under the covers,

They say the best thing

Is to make your bed first,

Each morning.

__

Pray, wash your face,

Then change your clothes.

Eat breakfast if time permits,

Leave early so punctuality grows.

__

At school or work,

Be diligent and focused.

Eat lunch and discuss

Different things you’ve noticed.

__

Then go home, eat dinner,

Repeat it all the next day,

This cycle, that is a privilege,

Yet you do it with dismay.

__

Boredom rose

As your life became

Mere old reruns

On replay--

Another day, another dollar;

you want so badly

To stop it all,

for just one day.

__

But what if each day was a gift,

Each safe return home, a blessing,

Life, an adventure,

Even if sometimes depressing.

__

Who would you be without

The daily routine you’ve developed?

And if you sat in bed all day,

How much more would it’ve helped?

__

Because if you continue good habits,

Compounded into good routines,

Your reward in the end will be greater

Then otherwise it would have seemed.

__

Consistency is key,

And as Frank Law once said

Your habits become your character,

And your character becomes your destiny,

So get up out of bed!

Whew. This totally hit :( From the start of school until your retirement, one is destined to keep up the grind. I love the rhythm on this and how to turned from a sort of bleakness to a more positive outlook because, at the very least, those gifted with the ability to keep a routine without disruption and support themselves from this routine, they are privileged with a more stability. I feel the very real urge to hop out of bed, write an essay, study for a billion different things, learn an instrument, and go to the gym all at once now! (though I'm definitely not doing any of this stuff, it is certainly motivation)

I can relate! I'm only in high school and already feeling a bit burnt out by the grind, but I've found that having gratitude can help a lot :D

I was reading this in bed and it made me inspired to go for a walk and call my friends. Thank you!

I never do my bed nor change my clothes out of bed, I brush my teeth once a week, I don't always have breakfast nor a shower so what kind of person I'm? Hehehe

On a serious note this lovely little poem which makes me think how lucky we are compared to others in worse situations however we must be careful to keep and share this freedom of privilege and not let other's steal it with their greedy hands wanting us to pay even for the very air we breathe if they could!

Overall a lovely little poem but it could seem like a parent telling their kid, which in some ways gives it annoying yet nostalgic feel of childhood and what our parents have told us throughout our birth to childhood.

All my thoughts and opinions I guess :-)

I appreciate it & I know the poem's viewpoint is kinda limited to what I know about the standard work-day schedule in the few countries I've been to so it'd be interesting to hear about how it differs around the world.
Also just in case you didn't notice, the "I'm" in your first sentence should be "am I".:)
