Some time ago, there were four children who were very close friends. Their names were Kelsey, Wendy, Corey, and Theodore, and for the four of them, nothing else mattered but their games.
Day in and day out, the four of them would play with each other, for they were all very close, and never wanted to part from one another. In their eyes, there was a whole world of colorful, vibrant magic that was waiting for them, a world no one else could see.
In fact, whenever they all talked about the fairies that visited them every day, their parents would smile and say that they were “happy they were having fun” as though they didn’t believe the children.
But the fairies were very much real! Their bright eyes and different colored hair was too vivid and stark to be in their imagination, their magic was too powerful to be fake.
There were four fairies for four kids. Kelsey had Elsie, Theodore had Evelyn, Wendy had Ethan, and Corey had Evan. Everything was all splendor and rainbows for a bit, then one day…
One day, the fairies all took the children to a garden with luminescent flowers and a carnival. The magical place was both a garden and a carnival, a place where the children could play with the fairies and not worry about anything at all!
At first, it was like a perfect dream. They ate cotton candy and spun glowing strands of plants in their small hands, not a single care in the world.
But then, the fairies had grinned at them with teeth that seemed like it could tear through their flesh, with eyes that looked like they enjoyed every second of violence and all had said together:
“Die! Die so you can be with us! Forever and ever and ever!”
Then, in milliseconds, the cotton candy tasted overwhelmingly sweet in their mouths, the glowing plants had become too much for their eyes, they had become glaringly blinding. The world was closing in on them, enclosing them, changing them…
Elsie tore her claws through Kelsey, Ethan ate chunks of Wendy’s flesh, Evan dug his claws through Corey’s skin, the three fairies had done many acts of bloody torture upon the young children.
But before Evelyn could take Theodore and do the same dreadful torture to him, something had taken him back home. A clown creature that was odd and wonderful, full of all the warmth and strangeness that only a clown could have.
In the moment that the clown had wrapped her loving arms around Theodore, bringing him to safety, he didn’t quite feel calmed, for he could hear his friends screaming and wanted oh so badly to save them, to bring them back to where they belonged, begging in tears for her to save the rest, but the clown had said in a sad voice:
“I can only take one.”
So the friends screamed in pain, the fairies relished in the macabre sights, the clown tried her best to comfort Theodore as she teleported him home, and Evelyn…
Evelyn was seething, vowing to find Theodore again, to finish off the last of the kids.
Yet even though Theodore was safe and sound, what fun would life be if his friends weren’t around?
