Note: So for my English class, we had an extra credit assignment where we write a poem using the following words - castle, sheep, airplane, moon, key, eyeball, bug, and a quote while also introducing the literary elements characterization, similie, metaphor, personification, and onomatopoeia. I actually delete some stanzas though, but this is basically the result. Totally open for interpretaton. I also tried using correct grammar (feel free to point out any mistakes) in this poetry, so let me know how you think that decision went? Enjoy.
Who said skyscrapers were the apex
Of this round orb?
I would bet that this airplane,
Soaring at a formidable height,
Seems to reach the tips of a blue heaven
No one has ever heard of.
A flight that is reminiscent of a creepy lullaby
My older sister would sing on the farm,
Delicately tracing the curve of her eyeball.
I buried beneath the golden straws of hay -
All of those straws alive.
My thoughts were always in a whirlwind.
Sleep was never imminent as
The sheep were always noisy sleeping partners.
But my eyes viewed the red barn as a castle
Lacking the fairy tale allure.
Truly beautiful was it, only when it and the
Crescent moon formed into a composite picture,
And my mother, her hair
Looking as if laced by rabbits, would murmur,
Lovely things are only temporary.
But this painting of me has gone awry.
The colors are all wrong,
Dimensions are blurry,
Angles are lopsided mysteries.
But now:
I look out the circular window -
Thought to myself that the key
To satisfaction and identity must have dropped
into the Pacific Ocean beneath us,
patient and waiting for someone to make a leap.
The airplane lands, departing from it’s dear friends,
The Cloud Posy.
Outside the airport, I spy
A bug on a barren branch,
A bee searching for someone
To fall in love with it’s potent sting.
I say to myself that it will not be me.
A yellow taxi rounds the corner.
The air smells like something exotic and new.
My comfort zone is thousands of miles away,
Somewhere along grasslands and an ocean.
But a new strength
Has blanketed my person.
While my feet are on the pavement,
I am soaring,
I am the clouds.
And all the sheep are finally asleep by now.
If I had an English class like this, I would of been in heaven ! I love this, it's creative, fun. A bunch of randomness turned into an organized, beautiful piece. Do remember capitalization is meant for the beginning of a sentinece, as well for a person, place, or brand object (etc) i do hope you got an A! Good luck writing, your doing great!!
I really like this and I think that assignment is so unique! I wish we got assignments like that when I was in english
. You've managed to take something that is completely random and make it into an organized thought flow that is quite beautiful. Just a few minor things I noticed where that punctuation needs to be kept up at the end of each line. The other thing is remember that you only need to use capitals at the start of the sentence, not for every line. An enjoyable piece! Well done! I swear I have to use that idea to get ideas going! :p
Happy Writing!
