Let The Tide

You dont need to know everything,
You dont need to know
What she's thinking now- or always.
You need not know what... color,
The sky's going to be.
If you thought it'd be red,
Then it came out blue,
It doesn't make you less of a person

It's understood you mean for the best-
Maybe you think the best isn't meant for you.
But just remember,
That it's not in your hands,
To remodel this sphere we inhabit.
Be contented with the brown leaves,
And enjoy the green while they last.

I really like this. It fits so perfectly with a memory of a loved one who was so overbearing, who had to control every outcome. It tore him apart. He couldn't live himself because he was too busy trying to structure life for everyone else. He grew up saving his little sister and brother from every bad thing. When they got older they got tired of it and of him. He didn't know what to do with himself after that so he didn't.

The first three lines are perfect. I love how on the second line "You don't need to know" is on its own as just a statement before leading into about what she's thinking. It's so hard for some people to just be and this line is ambiguous in a way that carries more meaning than if it weren't. On its own it might seem harsh to say but there's so much meaning in that rebuke that it couldn't be taken as just a slight.

The example you used with the color of the sky I feel could have been stronger but I'm viewing this poem from a much different perspective I'm sure. It's hard to hold the world together for someone. It's worse when they start to see the cracks in what you're doing and impossible when you have to admit you're wrong. It's hard to believe they wouldn't think less of you.

When I first read "Maybe you think the isn't meant for you." I didn't really think it was important like you just used it as filler until I thought back to the person this poem reminds me of. He was willing to do anything for his brother and sister. Their happiness was all that mattered to him. He never thought that he might deserve to be happy as well.

The last two lines of this poem hit me the hardest because he never was content and when his brother and sister let him know that they didn't need or want him to make everything better it destroyed him. I wish someone would have told him this, that he should take time to enjoy something.

Wow! I never imagined....This is why I like writing though, and hearing feed backs. I'm glad to know that you were able to connect with it. I was a bit hesitant in putting it up. It didn't seem 'up to standards'. I'm glad it was after all though.

If I'm going to burn, it might as well be bright.
