The Devil's Design

You may not understand what this is really about but I just had to get it out.

***

You are the devil's design,
and God's biggest regret.
You grinned as you left,
but this I will never forget.

What did I do to you?
I didn’t say a word.
Yet you brought the tears,
from the abuse I heard.

I don’t want to be this,
but it’s your creation.
So now I feel panic,
while you feel elation.

I didn’t have the courage,
I just ran home that day.
So “go to hell”,
is all I have to say.

From that day on,
all I asked was why.
Now I ask who are you?
And who am I?

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS.

You've truly gotten your point out in my book. Someone's hurt you, but you feel as if you've done nothing to deserve it. no?
All I really have to say, is I feel this way more than I probably should. (Please, don't take that in a self pity way, but more of a "I COMPLETELY RELATE TO THIS MASTERPIECE" way.)
Oh, and in this world, people are quick to hurt you. No matter their reasoning. Anything from "I need to take it out on someone." to "I just want to see you hurt. FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON."
If that's not your reason... I'm in the dark. I'd truly love to know your inspiration. And I hope all is well with you at this point in time.
Great piece, I love it! It is a work of art.

Good luck to you!

Wow thank you. Umm... it's true someone did hurt me and writing is how I deal with things so yeah that's what the poem's about.

You're right I don't understand it but the fact that you got it off your mind is the most important detail. Every person needs to know that they can let out their emotions. I don't even know you and this makes me proud to read. Keep letting out the feelings.

Wow. Thank you, I didn't expect that.

Wow. So, I feel like this poem could be about two separate people, the speaker and the addressee, or about one person: the speaker, speaking to himself (herself). The title is really intriguing--I'm not sure quite what you mean by that, but to me this poem is someone speaking about the evil inside their own self. Or it could be someone speaking to a demon, except that I don't believe demons would be God's biggest regret. I'm not sure that the evil inside ourselves is really "the devil's design" either; it's more like our own rebellion and fabrication, but still, that's what this poem speaks to me. And I think that is some of the beauty of this poem: that we can interpret it in many ways, and it still has meaning to us.

Excellent job on the rhyming--some poems can be ruined by forced rhyme or go rotten with uncertain and halfhearted rhyme schemes, but your rhyming was pretty much perfect. (I would say that it is perfect, but I don't think anything's perfect in art.) Only rhyming twice in each stanza added to the poem but didn't overload it with cliche or singsong. (I believe I used that word correctly; I know "singsong" sounds weird as a noun.)

The "biggest regret" I have about the poem is that I don't understand the subject more, and that what you're talking about isn't clear. But if you didn't want to tell us what it's really about, as your A/N implies, then I can't really complain about that. :)

This is really good! Especially since you're all of 100... ;)

Your interpretations are very interesting. I always love how people can interpret art. Thank you. Kids these days... So nice in their reviews :D

It doesn't seems like a random placed meanings into the lines, which they almost always say to me and to the beginners. That it had the rhmyes all of the way it would be boringly old, but happily, it is easy to read. You're obviously speaking of the Devil, as it did something to you, what, bad or nice. It remembers me of running away from a lover, fight or just one bad day. And of E. A. Poe's Raven. A fallen love situation turned you into a poetic writer while she, your loven one, is with some other. You're somewat angry, you say: "go to hell". Should you have written it or just say to her or a guy who stole her

Interesting interpretations. Thanks.

LOVED, absolutely LOVED the flow of this poem.
You could hear the rhythm of the words, and it was very consistent throughout.
I could hear myself just rolling from one point to the next, and every point made sense within eachother.
My favorite part of the whole poem was this stanza when you said,
"I don’t want to be this,
but it’s your creation.
So now I feel panic,
while you feel elation"
I obviously cannot divulge what you exactly meant from that line, but the idea that hung with me after reading it was.
How people force themselves onto you, whether it be a parent girlfriend teacher or otherwise.
Almost every person you come into contact with will want you to be just like them, because they believe that if they do something then it must be the way things should be done.
Overall cool poem, cool ideas.
Loved it, cannot wait to hear more.
