Reverie

by alpacaboss

Act 1: Awaken

My sleep was sweet

And night has befallen.

I found myself awake

In a beautiful garden.

*

Daisies greeted me.

Roses bloomed in reply.

Crickets chirped in song.

Fireflies lit the sky.

*

The air was nice and cool.

The breeze was just right.

I twirled in my airy outfit,

Comfortable and light.

*

Stars sparkled brightly

The grass lined a path

With twists and turns

To put you in a trance.

*

I followed the path

With careful deliberation

Yet I heard beautiful sounds;

I was overcome with emotion.

|

Act 2: Play

Oh wonder! A castle

So mighty and strong

Greeted miniscule me

With a haunting song.

*

Magical instruments played

A tune soft and lilting,

Quick to tantalize

The ears of any being.

*

I was lured into its depths

Going farther and farther

To find that sound

Growing louder and louder.

*

Climbing the shiny stone steps

Seeming to spiral for eternity

To my relief, I have found

The source of music already.

*

Enchanted harps play

A piano sits and leads

Violins softly sing along

To every single key.

*

The stone floor became

A bed of down feathers

Their music melts all

Worries whatsoever.

*

As much as I want to rest

I know I cannot do so

For once I succumb to sleep

This daydream will swiftly go.

|

Act 3: Slumber

The world started to blur

Its clarity fading

At this point I knew

Reality was calling.

*

The instruments gave

Their sighing farewells

I was teleported back

To the garden swell.

*

As much as I wanted to stay

In this perfect fantasy

Everything has an end

In disconcerting brevity.

*

I lay my head on the grass

The flowers waved

And the crickets sung

As the world faded.

*

One day I shall return

To a place so sweet.

One day I shall revisit

This lovely reverie.

I highly recommend you listen to Reverie by Claude Debussy, preferably Lang Lang's version because it is simply exquisite. Hope you like the poem :)

Hi there! This is Ina aka loveissourgrape back to review/comment about a poem of our lovely writer, @alpacaboss! I love your writings, by the way. Since last poem I've read was your mystery/suspense poem, this fantasy poem like changed my reading palate. And yes, I've been also reading most of your writings, especially your poems, but your stories are nice too.

First impressions. The cover art of this was very pretty and I wanted to read something light after reading the last poem I read and reviewed. Then I saw this poem only had one review so I wanted to write one.

Little comments [my thoughts about Reverie]. I see in the comments that this poem is inspired by a song. I haven't heard it though, might later since it is highly recommended by the writer. This poem reminds me of a series I've been writing. Since the narrator feels like a girl, to me. because of the description of "the airy outfit", a dress. From Act 1 to 3, felt so good to read. It feels like a pleasant dream or a imaginary world you want to be in but it is unreal. Kind of sad too.

Actual review. The plot is all great and nice. There are a few lines that do not rhyme and cuts off the rhythm of the poem but that's okay. You can learn more or it is your writing style. Kind of seems like my writing style. But we all know both of us can improve on that type of mistake that writers who are still learning their own talent and we have time to do that because we are young writers. But you are a fast learner when it comes to the site and to improving mistakes in your work. And that is good too. Keep it up because I love it! Everybody likes to see improvement in each young writer in this site c:

Note for the writer: I would love to see your improvement on your skills in writing, reviewing and grow in this site like I am with other old writers here. I could also PM you here about the plot of my story series. If you want to see it first. I hope this helps! Have a great day/night!

Thanks for your review, comments and encouragement! Yes I highly recommend you listen to Reverie. It's a classical piece by Debussy and it honestly helps me in visualizing and imagining different scenes.

I would be happy to talk with you regarding the plot of your story series! I will also share mine as well if you want :D

This review does help so thank you again!

Hello, I hope you're having a wonderful day! I'm here to leave a quick review on this lovely poem of yours.

I actually listened to Rousseau's cover of Reverie while reading this poem, and it is a gorgeous piece of music. Your poem perfectly captures the magic of Debussy's piece. The dream sequence in the poem articulates well with the gentle notes of the piano.

I also like how you structured the poem into three acts. At first, I thought they were correlated with the music itself like Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, which didn't actually happen as I kept listening. After rereading it, I realized that the poem was written out like it was a dream itself. That's my interpretation at least. The first act, aptly titled "Awaken" is about starting the dream, and the third act ends as the narrator begins to wake up. Which makes me sad when I was in a really pleasant dream.

Overall, this was a stunning poem, and I really enjoyed it!

Thank you for your review! The acts are just my way of interpreting the piece part by part. If I'll base it on Lang Lang's performance, here are the corresponding timestamps for each act.

ACT 1: 0:00 - 1:55
ACT 2: 1:55 - 4:10
ACT 3: 4:10 - 6:14

That's it. Glad you enjoyed my poem :)
