Day 8 (Khea's POV)
My precious sleep time was rudely interrupted by the alarm clock going off. Sure, I told it to go off at 7:00 so that I can wake up in time to go to school, but it’s still rude to interrupt a girl and her precious downtime.
Today was just like any other day. I got out of bed for another mundane day of school, got ready while my mom constantly yelled at me to get ready–yelling won’t make my teeth brush themselves any faster mom, and I headed east before heading south to school to pick up… Oh yeah… She’s no longer here is she…
Two days ago, Esther was chosen to enter God’s Kingdom. I was really proud of her, especially since I think she was the youngest person in history to get chosen. I still am. It’s just… A bit lonelier without her now I guess.
Anyway, now’s not really the time to sulk. Actually, why am I even sulking? Entering heaven’s a good thing… Right? And yet, there’s still a part of me that’s doubting this. This entire situation. This entire system. Must be just my dumb imagination though. I really need to head to school now. I’ll be late and I can’t afford to have my points deducted.
Day 8 (Esther’s POV)
I’m in hell. Like actual Hell. This place isn’t a hell, it’s the Hell. The place that we are taught about in Theology class. On second thought though, this place isn’t thaaaat bad. School was worse. Not because I didn’t like going–I loved going to school since that’s where all my friends were, I hated it because we had like 4 different Theology classes: Practical Theology (study of applying christianity into your life), Theoretical Theology (analysis and theorizing of the meaning of the scripture), Scriptural Theology (study and understanding of the scripture), and Eschatological Theology (study of the afterlife, heaven, hell, limbo, and all things in between). You know, for a God that emphasizes being humble, he sure has a narcissistic tendency to want us to learn about him as much as possible.
Well, not that he’s the one who made these things anyway. I’m still in a sort of denial since I’ve worked my entire life for these stupid points that God has talked about, but now… I can’t do anything but accept it. My life was a lie. All of those things I did were all for nothing. The Ethicallibrator was never flawed, it was simply not a real thing to begin with. It’s impossible to give a numerical point to a good deed. Humans don’t even know what a good deed is half the time.
Having this slightly obvious but still surprising revelation, I sulked into the bed I was curled up on. The sheets were surprisingly comfy with a thick yet breathable texture. They made for good absorbents for my tears. I don’t even know why I’m crying. It’s just after yesterday… My life has lost its purpose…
Even though I was crying pretty loud, the sounds of people being tortured and burned alive easily overpowered me. Weirdly though they comforted me. It was nice to think that no one was hearing me being all pathetic and stuff. I swear I’m not a sadist.
“What are you doing?”
Surprised, I quickly covered my puffy face with the blanket. Apparently the screams of agony did a good job of masking the sound of the door opening. I peeked over a slight bit and it was that demon I saw from a couple days ago. What was his name? Shi? Sounds like shi- No wait, I shouldn’t say that. I need to be family friendly. Actually, do I? There’s no God to tell me what to do anyways. So…
“Shi? More like shit. What the heck- fuck are you doing here? Why am I here?” I said, still new to this whole beingallowedtocurseatmyownfreewill thing.
“Hey, that’s mean. Can’t you be at least a tiny bit nicer? We literally saved you from death, you know.” He said. Just like how he looks, his tone was kind of not that brav– I mean wussy. I felt kinda bad.
“Sorry… I’m kinda having a crisis right now. Like… What’s the purpose of my life? Why the fuck are you guys always fucking up my business about my fucking necklace? What the fuck is up with that unihorned demon always calling me woman? I have a fucking name y’know. Ughasedgfhjfdhlkgjadfhkl;ghjjrekfghfuckfuckfuckdhgjssadlfuckFUCKadhsgjk.”
“...” Shi stayed silent. I think I scared them a little as they took a step back.
“S’ry, I think I have to get this fucking fuck out of my stupid ass system. I’ve pent up so much frustration inside me pretending I was fine. All for what? All for what…” I trailed off, tearing up again.
“Hey, that’s totally fine. Just let it out of your system. As a demon, I know more than a thing or two about impulses.” Shi told me, coming closer and patting my back, “there there.”
I’m being comforted by a demon. What has my life gone to?
“Shi, what are you doing? Also, close that damn window. The screams of the damned are driving me crazy.”
“Oh, sorry ‘bout that Yen.” Shi said, closing the window next to my bed. In an instant, the room got silent and my sniffling filled the room.
“What the hell happened to her?”
“I don’t know. I think she hit that thing humans call puberty.”
“Bitch, I’m 14. Puberty was ages ago. And you don’t just suddenly get puberty. It’s a gradual process.” I snapped.
“Woman, ju–”
“SHUT THE FUCK UP I HAVE A NAME YOU KNOW: ESTHER. LIKE THAT ONE QUEEN IN THE STUPID BIBLE WHICH WAS ALL PROBABLY FABRICATED IN THE FIRST PLACE.”
Day 8 (Shi’s POV)
I’m scared. Sure, I may be a primordial demon, but hormonally unstable 14 year old girls are scary. I tried to calm her down but Yen’s just kept making it worse.
Eventually, I had to get Yen out of the bedroom so that she can hopefully have some time by herself.
“Can you just like… Calm down for two seconds?”
“Why? I need that necklace–”
“Yen.”
“...”
“I’m being serious right now. I know we need that necklace, but that isn’t our only goal. The necklace chose her. I’m sure there’s a reason for that. For the time being, I think it’s best to just leave her be right now.”
“Fine. I’ll go bake a pie then.”
“Since when did you get into baking?”
“Since always.”

Just wanted to say:

This is what Shi looks like because they're the only character to not have been on any of the chapters' covers yet.
(yes, they're my pfp)
Hello!

but glad that she at least has an inkling that something might not be as it seems.
Let me get right into the review!
One thing I learnt is that passive sentences can break the immersion. Especially if your very first sentence is one. Maybe something more active would ease readers better into the chapter?
Also when you write something like "Today was just like any other day." It makes your chapter sound way less interesting than you want it too. If it's a normal, boring day, why would I be interested in it? It's a phrasing you should watch out for
Here: "I headed east before heading south" you repeat head and I feel a more descriptive but longer sentence abt how the environment or maybe what she usually does would work better?
That all said, I like how it comes across that we're in a teenager's head! And oh no... She has no idea what's going wrong on Esther's pov huh
I really like the beginning of Esther's POV! She sounds a bit similar to Kea but what she describes is really interesting! 4 different god classes huh?
I just feel like this sentence part here is weaker than the rest of the paragraph. "to learn about him as much as possible." Maybe you could be more specific or rephrase it?
Oh I love this line : "Humans don’t even know what a good deed is half the time."
Thought-provoking!
Also love how she can intimidate a demon xd
I appreciate Shi's POV for some context in their thoughts xd
Hello there, human! I'm reviewing using the YWS S'more Method today!
Shalt we commence with the morbid S’more?
Top Graham Cracker - Khea misses her friend, Esther, who was sent to Heaven…actually, no. Esther is in HELL and she is understandably ready to FIGHT! She yells at a demon and cries in surprisingly soft sheets, wondering what else in her life was a lie.
Slightly Burnt Marshmallow - I have no recommendations to make as of right now, but if you would like to edit this, then you may.
Chocolate Bar - Omg. I love this. I love how frustrated Esther is right now, because I seriously do not blame her for feeling that way. I think my favorite part is her yelling at Shi, because that’s honestly just so relatable and I can feel her anger and sadness from how she thinks and her dialogue. I also like how Khea misses her and doubts the whole idea that she went to Heaven, this is going to set up something quite interesting.
Closing Graham Cracker - Overall, I enjoyed this very much! I feel like I am missing some crucial context, so, I’m going to start reading this series day by day so I get to know more! I cannot wait to learn about this demonic world and if Esther and Khea will see each other again and so…
I wish you a fantastic day/night! ^v^
