Plus I need suggestions for the title!

Mum’s forehead creased as she scowled at me. I could tell that she had been worried and I instantly repented everything. Her hair auburn hair was frizzy and her brown eyes reflected worry.

“Where the hell were you? I was worried sick!” she screamed at me.

“I...” I began, wondering whether I should tell the truth, “I went for a walk and then I sat down to get my bearings but I fell asleep. An old friend of mine found me this morning and helped me find my way home.

“You’re only seventeen! You shouldn’t be wandering around so late!”

“I am so sorry, my phone had lost battery and I just didn’t know I was so tired.” She sighed.

“Keep your phone charged. Go to your room and get more sleep,” she said. She seemed too exhausted and stressed to argue with me. It confused me because usually I’d get a giant lecture. But obviously, something was up.

I ignored it because I couldn't be bothered to make her angrier. It could sound a bit rude of me maybe. So I just walked slowly to my room which was painted pale purple and white. I remember picking the colours when I was three because I thought the fairies would like it. Never bothered to change it. I took the charging plug for my phone and pushed it into the socket on the wall. My phone vibrated to show it was charging and I lay in bed holding it. I played games on it all day and guessed Mum didn’t want me to leave the room today. I decided I’d call Nathan and ask him why he left so quickly. One ring, two rings, three rings. He picked up. We talked for two hours. He had just been annoyed about Xander so he ran off. The rest of our conversation meant nothing, it was normal, but it never became awkward. Suddenly, things began to change. It was about eleven at night and I really should have been sleeping, considering the lack of sleep I had yesterday. He said something very interesting.

“Why did you bother to help me?” I asked. It was then when our conversation started to get interesting.

“I could not just ignore you, that would be incredibly rude of me,” he replied.

“But still, most people wouldn't care."

“I care, I love you,” he told me. He said it as if it was normal. But someone to actually say they love you is big, because that means something.

“Do you?” I asked, not quite believing him.

“Yes, please can we move on from the subject? I do not want this to get awkward.” his words stumbled. He seemed to stutter a lot.

“I think I should be getting some sleep anyway, and so should you. Try and figure out what sort of rubbish you just said to me.” I was unintentionally harsh.

“Rubbish? Do you think what I said was rubbish?” he seemed hurt and it was then when I realised how uncaring I must have sounded. But, for some reason, I let the words continue to poor out of my mouth.

“Yes. As if you love me, we haven’t talked in months and as soon as you see me again you tell me you love me. Think about what you said.” I was becoming crueller each time I opened my stupid mouth.

“I know how I feel. And if you think that I am stupid for it then go ahead and laugh. But I thought that I had finally met someone who cared about me. Obviously I am still the posh weirdo who no one wants to be standing next to.” When he said this, I didn’t even feel sorry for him. I genuinely thought he was stupid. Now I know that I shouldn’t have said anything.

“Yes, you are,” I answered. I didn’t even hesitate to reply. But as I said it, he hung up.

That night, I was confused and mildly annoyed with Nathan. Why did he say he loves me? How does that make any sense? Fair enough if he “fancies me” but love? I awoke the next morning still tired, but no longer angry. I reviewed that phone call from the night before. I knew I had to apologise. I was so incredibly nasty so how could he ever forgive me? Even if he does love me, I still want to be friends with him. I ate breakfast then ran out the door, ignoring the shouts from my mum saying, “Where are you going? Come back! I’ve grounded you, remember?!” but she hadn’t grounded me. Stupid lying idiot, I didn’t say that out loud. I eventually got to Nathan’s house and sighed. This would be trouble. I knocked on the door, half confident, and waited for a reply. Soon his mum answered opened the door for me. Her clothes looked very expensive.

“Hey I need to speak to Nathan, I’m Skylar,” I explained to her.

“Oh, Nathan has mentioned you. He was on the phone to you, right?” she asked, her voice almost as posh as Nathan’s. She was glaring at me though.

“Yes, please could I come in?” I was hopeful.

“Let us hope you will apologise,” she muttered under her breath as she let me through.

I asked where he was and she said that he was in his room as she guided me up to him. I thanked her, but was instantly nervous. What if he didn’t forgive me? Or he tried to get rid of me? And I remembered that I had called him a posh weirdo. How could I take that back easily? I don’t know. I opened his door slowly and walked in saying hello to him. He looked up to see me and then just turned back to his book, not in an immature way though. There was a lot of orange in his room and his bookshelf was literally overflowing with books.

“I’m sorry,” I began, praying that this would all be over soon and we could just get back to normal.

“Do not start, you already told me what you think.” I felt like the worst person ever to walk on the Earth.

“No I haven’t. I haven’t even begun,” I said, waiting for a positive response.

“Just tell me then.” His words were sharp and seemed to cut into me like a sushi knife.

“I never meant what I’d said. You aren’t a posh weirdo at all, I’m sorry that I was harsh about you loving me. I was just confused. I take it all back, please forgive me,” I pleaded.

“Why should I believe you?” he snapped. I blinked slowly, knowing this would be harder than I had guessed.

“I ran barefooted all the way down here despite Mum shouting at me and gathering a big collection of reasons why she should kill me when I get back, all because I needed to know I could fix everything between us.” I wouldn’t give up until forgiveness. He looked down at my feet and noticed they had no shoes or socks.

“Well,” he sighed. He stood up and walked close to me before tucking a bit of hair behind my ear, “I found you, comforted you, helped you home, told you I love you and you insult me for it. You said I was speaking rubbish, but how about you, darling?” Was it good he was calling me darling?

“But...” I protested. He interrupted me by putting his index finger to my lips and he shushed me, now really close to me. My heart started to beat faster.

“Just think about it, love,” and he walked back to his bed.

“I’ve thought, and I want you to forgive me,” I said, following him and then I sat next to him. He sat thinking for a few minutes. Then he sighed.

“Fine.” He turned to me and rested his hand against my cheek. “Why do you care anyway?”

“Because I do.” I couldn't let him leave. Not now. It was almost hard to think of what I'd done. And then to know he gave up on me because I was stupid, even after he saved me from Xander. We stayed like that for ages, staring into each other’s eyes, his hand not moving. I liked it.

“Darling,” he finally broke the silence, “your eyes are gorgeous.”

“Thanks, yours are too.” We both smiled, “I better get going now.”

“Goodbye,” he said. I smiled again as I walked towards the door.

“Skylar?” I turned back to him as he said it, “I love you.”

It seemed to be a hell of a lot better that time he said it. Instead of feeling anger, I felt happiness. For once.

Hey,
Again, sorry for the wait, but I am here now.

I must say, I didn't expect an argument with Nathan so soon. How interesting.

She seemed too exhausted and stressed to argue with me. It confused me because usually I’d get a giant lecture. But obviously, something was up.
I ignored it

Does she really not care? She's not worried at all that 'something is up'? Perhaps she thinks about saying something but decides she doesn't want to risk making her mom angrier?

“Why did you bother to help me?” I asked, our conversation was getting interesting.

First, that in bold is a run-on. A period where the comma is should fix it.
Second, the part in italics makes it sound like the conversation was getting interesting before she asks 'why did you bother...' I don't think that's what you meant.

it was then when I realised how uncaring I must have sounded. But I continued...

Why does she continue if she knows it's mean? Most people don't go about thinking things are mean and then continue to do so. That doesn't make any sense. However, if she was panicked or threatened by his admission, that would make more sense.
Be sure every action of your characters has a logical reason. They are thinking people too.

“I ran barefooted...I could fix everything between us.” I wouldn’t give up until forgiveness.

You need a period instead of a comma unless the quotation is followed by a variation of 'he said.' This happens several times. I'd proof read.

I was used to the idea now. Instead of feeling anger, I felt happiness. For once...

Second time and everything is a-okay? I don't think so...

This seems to be moving very fast, the chapter and the plot line in general. There's no need to show all of your cards at once. You could have this scene later on and have a great time throwing hints and what not into your plot. No need to rush. Writing novels and coming up with plot should be a slow experience. :D

Alrighty. I think Nathan is amusing. I like him because he's weird. You have a good base for him. May I suggest showing us (notice I said show, not tell) why everyone thinks he's so weird. Right now, all the reader knows is that he is.
I'll get to the next chapter as soon as I can.
Megsug

Thanks for the suggestions! I didn't actually know about not having a comma unless I wrote 'he said' or something :)

Hey, Life! I'm back. Though a bit late.

Her hair was frizzy and auburn and I could see the worry in her brown eyes.
This sentence sounds a bit immature. Why not write like this-Her auburn hair was frizzy and her brown eyes reflected worry. Just try to be imaginative.

There were some sentences which were a bit off, but you can edit them out later. But if you're still stuck, let me know. So, now I'll get straight to the points.

Your writing was much more mature in the first chapter, methinks. Somehow, I didn't get to know that you were just a thirteen year old from your writing in the first chappy, but somehow here you tripped. At points, it was just too simple and childish. Like you didn't need to serve each and every detail to us on a platter. The details which weren't needed. That being said, I think you had a lot of scope of punching in some 'useful' details. I'll let you know eventually in my review what all those were.

First of all, when you mentioned the term 'posh' for Nathan and his mum, I was confused. Do you mean the literally meaning? If yes, then it would have been a good idea to 'show' us how they were rich when maybe Skylar goes to their place or when she sees the mum. How his mum dresses, walks, etc. can be a pretty good signal. Plus, how was Nathan's room-that would give a pretty good indication of who he was, what he did? Maybe like when she walks inside his room, she mentions he leaves whatever he was doing-why not specify what fell under 'whatever'?

Secondly, I felt that him calling her a 'darling' seemed a bit old-fashioned or mature. From the looks of it, they seem teenagers. So, teenagers boys would usually have something else to say. Babe? Honey? Something else, perhaps? It's just an idea I got.

Also, take time to write down her emotions. Don't muddle the readers with loads of I did that, I felt that. Instead, make them feel the emotions clearly. Lead them towards her heart and let them feel what's inside her. Also, if you're planning on making Skylar fall for Nathan it would be nice if you let out certain emotions, hints for the readers to know that she's in love. Don't just stop flat at-did I love him, too?

For your age, I think it's a pretty solid start. I'm not a big fan for romantic stories, but I do have a feeling that you could have something interesting going on here. So, plan out and flesh out your characters, plots, and everything. ^_^

Right now, I'm still intrigued about what is the deal with Xander and Skylar. Who he was and what was the terrible thing he had done to win her anger? So, I'd like to appreciate that you're not releasing all your strings at once and keeping a twist/mystery.
All the best. Hope this helps. Just one more thing-your grammar is good. Not the best, but good. :) That's a good thing.

Hiya! This is my first review, so I'll do my best:
I feel that the story has really good potential and I'd love to see Xander's character expanded upon, it seems like there could be an interesting relationship there. However, I do feel the start was a bit rushed and description could've been used in better places - you should definitly experiment with metaphors and personification.
I'm not sure I like Nathan's character, but there's no reason why that affects the quality of the story and I think as the story gets longer it has the potential to gain more dimension - its early days!
I have to say this isn't the sort of genre I normally read, but I have enjoyed reading your chapters. Thank you for posting!

P.S If you could look at my porfile that would be much appreciated!

Alright! Haven't reviewed in awhile so it's a little rusty, but I'll do my best.

First off, caps. Yes I know her mum is shouting and it's as loud as hell, but CAPS makes it seem a little weird...or out of place.

You have a habit of describing things that aren't really needed, like the phone, and the scene at home in the morning could be cut shorter, also silly lying cow? I honestly don't think cows lie, and this phrase doesn't fit. Because her mum wasn't lying...use a phrase that a teen would normally use, like "Screw it" or "Screw you".

I like how the two characters here have their conflict, but I feel that Nathan seemed to forgive Skylar a little too easily. Like he wasn't even hurt in the first place. On the phone the argument sounded pretty bad and one would guess that Skylar needed to coax Nathan a little before he would yield to her apologies. His mum, on the other hand, seemed angrier at Skylar than Nathan. No doubt Nathan likes Skylar but wouldn't he feel a little more emotional?

Overall a good read, hope to see more from this!

Hi World!

Nice interesting story you have here. Lemme get straight to the comments.

Well, when you start off with ALL-CAPS it's a bit unsettling. I understand the mom is worried and yelling, but try to avoid all-caps as much as possible.

Title -- I know I should allow the authour space for creativity, but I'd love to see you change the title. This sounds like some angsty teenage title, and it would be good if you could think of something new.

Description -- In certain places, you opt for a very one-dimensional approach to describing like you mentioned purple room. While this does paint a simple stroke in the larger picture, I would like to see more solid description. Like say how the purple reminded her of her childhood when she wanted or something. That would add to description while tying in with the story and character development.

Which brings me to character, I find them interesting. I'd like to see where this goes.

You used ellipses (...) in a few places which was unnecessary. Especially that last sentence. I see you want to create a continuity/suspense, so instead of ellipses, use a line that acts as a hook.

Keep writing!
Cheers!
I'm off to the next chapter now.

Hi. woow. Clearly I opened 2 tabs and misread the chapter numbers. Sorry hon.

Thanks, I was going to change the title at some point because when I was writing it in Microsoft Word I hadn't given it a title. But to be honest I have no clue what to call it. I'll edit it a bit now :)

Hello, I would like to review your work!!!

now first comes the bad:

Silly lying cow,

I didn't get why you said cow, it sounded out of place. Maybe it would be better if you said:
Silly lying rat
or something like that. also silly made it sound like you were laughing at her. if that was that what you were doing? because I got the message you were a little mad. I would put:
Stupid lying rat.

now my favorites:

most humorous line(s): “Well,” he sighed. He stood up and walked close to me before tucking a bit of hair behind my ear, “I found you, comforted you, helped you home, told you I love you and you insult me for it. You said I was speaking rubbish, but how about you, darling?” Was it good he was calling me darling?

I thought this was a really funny part as he called her darling:)

most vivid words: your eyes are gorgeous.

favorite line(s): “Skylar?” I turned back to him as he said it, “I love you.”
I was used to the idea now. Instead of feeling anger, I felt happiness. For once...

bravo, I really loved it. keep writing!!!!
